Our prophet said the best among you is the one who does treat his wife the best and has never hit his wife or wives. But if the men did get upset and beat the wife the condition is that it was not be slapped or strike to leave marks. If a man did hit his wife it has to be on the hand and with a miswak (tree brank about size of toothbrush). Believe me u can hit very hard and it does not hurt. So why hit a wife? Don't unless u have a very stubborn wife. Last resort after nothing resolves.

When the Quran gets translated, translation can have mistakes but the original text as we all know so words cannot be translated exactly. I do my best to encourage Muslims to learn about their religion in Arabic and English or whatever their mother tounge is. We also have what we call Prophet's tradition or (Hadith) which gives you more explanation of any action needs to be done. The Hadith and Quran go hand in hand.

The problem is, some christians conclude that some of the old testiment is applicable today, some christians conclude that NONE of it is applicable today, and some conclude that ALL of it is applicable today.. so which one are you? You however have taken the english translation and assumed thats what it is, you need to look at the authentic language, ARABIC and not any arabic, it's unique, its and unspoken arabic refered to as quranic arabic.
