I just love Steinman. His voice is so .. i dont even know how to describe it! Introduced to him when i was about 14 .. only 6 yrs ago.. :/ can still remember where i was when I heard my first song. Love and Death and An American Guitar. :)
so beautiful ---- i still cry with this song ----- "that's what rock and roll is all about" bringing back memories......... there's always something magic..... 4 u
What a KILLER tune. Funny thing is, so many people never heard of it! Steinman wrote so many great tunes and nobody realizes it. AIr Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" sung by Bonnie Tyler. You can hear his influence clearly in both songs. Of course, he's the genius behind Meatloaf. JS fans know all this, of course. Thanks for posting!
@BTBHSOHBOY you need to not put Meatloaf down. I think he's awesome!! Besisdes, I can hear Meatloaf's passion for his music, but I can't hear that from this guy, jim Steinman
Great song - I wish he had recorded videos to go with the songs - or released them as singles - I played the record over and over when I was 16 and still love the songs
Rory Dodd recorded a custom version just for WLS-AM, and FM. He sang 'We got WLS playin', so loud, and, so strong.' It hit #32 in Billboard, 8-15-81. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!
The Agora burned down? When?? Wait, Todd Rungren is on this? And Davey Johnstone? And Max Weinberg? So much I didn't know..... Just goes to show, the music matters; I've always loved this song.
Have to say I prefer Meat Loaf's version from Bat 2, but this is still an amazing version. This one has better piano, and the archipella chorus at the end is amazing. <3 Wish Steinman had done another solo album...too much is never enough!
One other thing - Jim Steinman (and Meatloaf in particular) owe their success to Steve Popovich here in Cleveland, on the then new Cleveland International Records label. Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" album went gold overseas before it became a hit here! I met Meatloaf when I was 18 when he performed at the now burned-down Cleveland Agora in 1978. He would belt out a song, then go off stage to breathe oxygen (this was when he was enormous).
Jim Steinman belted this out at WMMS in Cleveland in either '82 or '83. I was still at Cleveland State and was only a few blocks away from their studio when it was at Statler Tower (12th and Euclid). I knew people at the station and spent more than a fair amount of time there. Among other artists I got to meet Jim. He's a great guy, very personable, and incredibly talented. Many WMMS tapes have (sadly) been lost - I believe stolen by a Jew that worked there, but that's for another day...
In the european version, the album bad for good had a promo single included = side 1 : Storm side 2 : Rock 'n Roll dreams come through = My favorite of this album. A great tribute to Phil Spector. Great song , great production (Todd!) Great sax solo and of course, the chorus at the end...love it. Thanks for this song, Jim!
ROCK & ROLL DREAMS COME THROUGH Composed by Jim Steinman Rory Dodd: Featured Vocals Todd Rundgren: Guitars, Backing Vocals Davey Johnstone: Acoustic Guitars Steve Buslowe: Bass Roy Bittan: Piano Jim Steinman: Assorted Keyboards Roger Powell: Synthesizers Alan Rubin, Tom Malone, Lew Del Gatto, Lou Marini: Horns Max Weinberg: Drums Jimmy Maelen: Percussion Backing Vocals: Rory Dodd, Kasim Sulton, Eric Troyer
Ahh, yess, brill' stuff, 5 stars (plus if it was there). Complete with the choral reprise that just makes it. the 1994 version just doesn't touch the original for sung with tue blue soul. A single I still have, with the intersting B side 'Love and death and an American guitar'.

@MsLeen101 But remember, Steinman wrote this. I love Meat Loaf, but I think Steinman's version of this particular song is better.
