Questions: what sort of habitat and how much food do they require to survive? Do they only eat snakes or are other vermin (moles, ferrets, etc.) on the menu as well.
Was thinking of getting a pair to provide snake control (rattler) in the Redding CA area.
@B3TAFalconry i got it in AFRICA when i had a holiday and i got 1 becus mah house(dat i stayed in) was full of rats n snakes so secretary bird just killd em
If anyone lives within a few miles of Andover, you can see them at the Hawk Conservancy, brilliant place to go for Secretary Birds, Hawks, Condors and all sorts of amazing birds
because average joes aren't supposed to be keeping exotic birds like this. they belong out in the wild savannah in africa, free with the rest of God's creation.
Can you imagine, some jackass sneaks into your house and out of nowhere this bird comes flying with legs flailing, fucking up shit.... yeah. that would be cool.
wouldn't it be fucking epic if the bird realised it's a fake snake, flew above the guy's head, started kicking him in the face? XD

Instinct. In the wild, secretary birds stomp on real snakes to catch and eat them. Very cool birds =)

She lives in the bird park and is around people all the time, but they do not treat her like a pet, so I guess she would be sort of domesticated. :)
