  • I like Yelena Produnova

She could dance and beat anyone

But she is not in this montage : (

  • The Soviets were always at the top, but sadly they got forced into gymnastics and were pushed really hard. They're all so small because of the work load and how little they were allowed to eat. They were amazing, though.

  • gymnasts used to be beautiful, now they look like pumped up cheerleaders- what happened to the discipline?

  • 4:23 to 4:27 - look at that; she stumbles a little but turns it into a dramatic "falling onto my knees" and it still looks beautiful.

Nowadays, it's all about luck: is this non-beautiful routine going to be the one I don't lose any balance on or...?

  • The Soviet gymnasts were definitely amazing and did beautiful gymnastics, but that was weird at 1:23.

  • In Soviet Russia: You beat gymnasts.

In Western America: Gymnasts beat YOU!

  • Soviet people was the most gorgeous and friendly people of the world..... now this is only the past. the collapse of the USSR was a real tragedy for us.

  • Love it!! This is what gymnastics should look like. These gymnasts artisrty and execution totally trumps gymnasts of today (with the exception of a small handfull). Thanks for sharing. I love the Soviets.

  • i like the montage, but some of the gymnasts arent from the soviet era. but i still like it!

  • Only one word can be said about Soviet gymnasts: AMAZING! And there shall never be anyone like them ever again

  • awesome!

  • this shows why the russians put their gymnasts through hell, when it comes to competing, the russians kick ass.

  • i love how versatile these gymnasts are, they specialize in every event. now a-days gymnasts are only amazing on one event, these gymnasts do it all.

  • Is that Khorkina at 3:39 on beam ??

  • Some of these gymnasts came after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

  • @tristalista Yeah, but they still were trained and formed in the Soviet national team. The 'last of the Soviets' were Khorkina and Nemov - who retired long after the dissolution of the USSR.

  • who is a gymnast at 0:22? she looks as if she had both ankles broken...

  • @KsiezniczkaTatusia Tatiana Lyslenko and those were tumbling shoes she wore.

  • @KsiezniczkaTatusia Actually, both of her ankles were heavily taped.

  • song sucks.

  • @iloveyourstory you suck

  • This is fantastic. Oh so elegant. But at 1: 23 it is really goofy. Amzing video. Shame it isnt more famous!!!...

  • Waaaaaaaaaah ! I like !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • crap! thats sooo risky!!! they deserve to be recognised internationaly

  • they got nerve! so brave!

  • 1:46 how the crap do u do that?????

i would never even try if i ever do try i will kill myself but nice video

  • What's amazing is how they do triple back handsprings ONTO the apparatus! That takes nerve!!

  • 1:45 AMAZING!! That is sooo cool!

  • great video!

  • I could do anything extremely hard bu not that.

  • 0:33-0:37 I did once. Could never do it again.

  • 1:45 plain awesome!

  • просто молодцы у нас девчонки !!!

  • These are the REAL gymnasts

  • The golden age of gymnastics.... fabulous job!

  • Jesus christ! can't even imagine how it would be if you broke your writs :p doing one of those amazingly stunts or what its called :p

  • 8-360s down 3 flights of stairs , youtube hassel handstand

  • OMG!!! I was going to take gmnastics but I have too weak wrists so I started ballet... But there's no doubt... I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!!! Now I dnt know what to do!!!

  • looking at the top gymnast now , they suck compared to these veterans!!

I think the codes and rules of gymnastics is preventing this sport from being how it was.

  • @BritneysOnlyLover I think also the end of the massive subsidies and pressure apparatus during the Soviet era have something to do with the decline. But still, compare gymnastics even now to gymnastics in the pre-Soviet era and clearly it is still better than before, even if it is not as good as it was during the peak. I suspect the Soviet era was a showcase of gymnastics at its absolute best within the realm of possibility.

  • Hi, who's the little firecracker at 4:50? I was a gymnast and absolutely loved doing it ('79 -'89) and watching it, but now I can barely watch it anymore. it seems so mechanical and no room for sparks of individuality. where's the character and joy gone? :(

  • Omelianchik??

  • @showmesomethingnew

The gymnast at 4:50 with the short red hair is Elena Shevchenko. She was a member of the 1988 Olympic team. I think her floor routine in this montage is from the 1986 Goodwill Games judging from the yellow carpeting.

  • Can someone PLEASE tell me what the moves at 0:47 2:11 and 4:59 are called I've been trying to figure that out for MONTHS!!!! Its sooo beautiful!

  • its just a full twisting flick, im not sure if its named after anyone on floor, but on beam its called a kotchetova

  • Kochetkova*

    performed by dina Kochetkova

  • I´ll be damned...does anyone here know who´s the girl doing floor exercise starting at 1:29....that was some brutal speed and perfection. What´s her name?

We know only the ablest athletes can attain something like this, and also years of hard training and discipline...but whenever i watch moves like those of this girl i say "hey...are these girls human beings?" I mean, its alien beahvior.

  • tatiana gutsu

  • I think its a little unfair to say gymnastics isn't beautiful anymore.... Look at Anna Pavlova and Nasti Liukin! both of them look incredibly beautiful I think.... Particularly Ms. Pavlova.

  • pavlovas is even more beautiful than the gymnastics in the 80s AND more difficult.

  • they both suck compared to these gymnast.

  • omg i used to be a gymnast but Support4MySingers does have a good point it isnt like it used to be im going to start gymnastics again and i hope we can bring the dance and grace back i switched out of gymnasticks to do ariel (gymnastics in the air) because of those reasons ariel has the grace that i was looking for so i've been good but i was never really satisfied so im going back 2 gymnastics but i might have 2 switch out of it altogether because of school and modeling :(

  • Awesome, you'll have to keep us up to date with what you do!!!

  • This Rocks

The Soviet Union should have never broken up

  • This is an incredible montage! Who is the gymnast at 2:32?

  • 3:39 ... a gainer full twist on beam?!!! is it khorkina?

  • i think so

  • No 1 does it like this anymore. 2 days Gymnasts do nothing but tricks & do WAY 2 many of them at a time & it just looks boring & all the same. All the dance, grace and beauty is no longer apart of the sport! This is the way I used 2 do it when I 1st started 7 I'm a guy now 25 but through my teens I did it exactly like this & ended up getting kicked out 4 not doing it there so called "Right way". I did it 2 much like a girl & looked 2 graceful but FUCK I always looked better than the others!

  • BEAUTIFUL!! :)) LOL 10 thumbs up!

  • wow they r really good! that was such a cool way to get on the bars! and all the other stuff too!

  • My mother thinks Im insane but I seriously miss the Soviet Union and this makes it worse lol

  • the soviet gymnastics was the beautiful time of gymnastics.. u could see the grace and beauty...lol

  • Who is the gymnast at 3:52 ??

    thanks

  • The gymnast at 3:52 is the great Dina Kochetkova of Russia- 1994 Goodwill Games AA Champion, 1994 Floor Exercise Gold Medalist. I think she was so underrated. She was on the 1996 Russian Olympic team with Khorkina, though I much prefer Dina's style to Khorkina's.

  • I'm glad somebody else thinks like I do about Dina. She NEVER got the recognition she deserved. Dina was a gymnast cut from a mold similar to the great Shushunova - hard, serious, dedicated, focused.

  • Laschenova was amazing! Best Yurchenko full ever.

  • i think that this is so amazing

  • 5:04-5:07 brilliant...in combination. Was that the first time that was competed? Isn't that Mostapamova? Beautifully done, rivals what we see now.

  • Wow, Talk about amazing!

  • 1:45 What An AMAZING Way To Get Onto The Bars! Never Seen that One Before, That Was Fantastic!

    Nice Montage! x

  • AMAZING!!!

  • WOW

(sigh, caps lock doesnt go big enough)

    this was awesome, totally faveorited

    Who sings this song?

  • Bonnie Tyler

    Total Eclipse Of The Heart

    :)

  • wow they are amazing

  • 1:45 blows my mind to no end

  • what do you mean was beutiful.isnt it still?

  • 2:39...risk taking!

  • 3:33 was impressive

  • Jeeezzzz...AMAZING...makes me wish I could that still....but 1:45...damn thats awesome!!

  • wow! at 1:45! i have never seen that before!! wow!!

  • i'm feeling so much nostalgia right now... amazing... at 3:46 talk about perfect music-video alignment

  • Thanks a lot to the creator of this video. I watched it a least 10 times!!! In plus a good choice of the music. Bravo the russian gymnasts! The bets and most elegant.

  • Amazing! I love watching these videos, the modern ones just seem so forced.

Does anyone know who the awesome girl on the beam at 0.45 is? I thought it was OKSANA OMELIANCHIK but I couldn't find that move!!

  • I'm not sure, but maybe she is Tatiana Gutsu

  • Thanks, but no it's not her :( I'll keep looking though!

  • its natalia kalinina i think!

  • Ding ding ding! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Thanks so much! I just found it, Natalia Kalinina - 1990 Goodwill Games!

    You're awesome!! Thanks a million!

  • "Patti464" is right. It is definitely Natalia Kalinina on beam at :45!

  • awsome!!

  • WOAH

    1:45!!!!!!

    AMAZING

  • its total eclipse of the heart

  • Thank you!

  • Those are wonderful. Absolutely.

How is the song called? It's perfect for this video ;)

  • This is brilliant. The skill is amazing.

  • at 1:48 it is Olessia Dudnik

  • this is by far the best video of gymnastics that i have watched.... and i've watched a lot

  • i will never get tired of watching this

  • Truly inspirational video. Some of the moves these girls pulled off were absolutely amazing.

  • great montage, thanks

  • wow, the soviets are better then the americans! i never even realized that.omg!

    u guys rock, keep flippen!=D

  • Who is that at 3:21? I can't for the life of me remember her name!

  • Who are the gymnasts at:

    0:38

    0:55

    and 2:28

  • I'm pretty sure that 0:38 is Lyssenko at 1991 Worlds, 0:55 is definitely Laschenova at 1989 Worlds, and 2:28 is Laschenova again at 1989 Worlds

  • I agree with "SilivasGold." I can't tell 100% that it's Lyssenko at :38, as I can't see her beautiful face, but it's a 1992 Olympics' uniform, and she has very curly hair and a double-twisting Yurchenko, so it must be Lyssenko. It is definitely the amazing Latvian Laschenova on vault and floor. Natalia Laschenova had the BEST full-twisting Yurchenko of all time. You must search under Laschenova 1989 World Championships to view her "Hall of the Mountain King" FE.

  • Whos this lovely gymnast doing the absolute perfect double twist at 0:38 ?

  • ooh mee gosh

  • That mount at 1.49 on the bars was amazing! they were really fantastic!!!

  • That mount is from the Soviet Ukrainian Olessia Dudnik. One of the greatest of all time!

  • whos at 1.29?!?! WOW!!!

  • kewl stuff dude

  • God I miss the good old Soviet days.....

  • lissenko then gutsu

  • WHOAS AT 1:49?!?!? HOLY CRAP!

  • Olessia Dudnik.

  • i love gymnastics! but i think i have only just realised how amazing it is. as i fall deeper into this sport, i'll probably appreciate it more and more. yes, gymnastics was once really beautiful, but i beleive its future is even brighter than its past, and i'm ready to dedicate my life to making it better and more beautiful than ever!

  • whos hte gymnast @ 1:17

  • Natalia Laschenova.

  • luv it!!!!

  • AAS. All of them.

  • how old was khorkina when the ussr fell?

and i love that you chose the most 80s song to put on this montage. it was great!

  • probably about 11, i think she started competing on a senior level in 1994 so she must have been 14. The soviet union fell in 1991 but the united team competed at the 1992 olympics anyway because they'd been training as a team. She's probably i this montage because she trained under the soviet regime and must have competed for the soviets as a junior.

  • this must be the sickest thing I've seen in gymnastics.

  • who is that at 1.48? I love that bars mount!

  • Natalia Lashenova (sp?)

  • olessia dudnik :-)

  • the whole routine is in the video "Olesia Dudnik perfection bars routine grea" (without the "T") :-)

  • wow, i remember when the Soviet Union dominated Artistic and Rythmic Gymnastics. cool, vid.

  • misstady is a goddess

  • The gymnastics from 2:28 to 2:32 is Natalia Laschenova.

  • 2.28-2.32...who is that?

  • 1:48...whoa that was crazy

  • is latvia in the sovient union

    t/b

    x amelia

add me as a friend if u want to :D

  • Good video. Wish the music was different.

  • hey people, why do you give this person a bad rating just because he say (or she) that he didn't like the song?

I liked pretty much the video, but i dont like the song. I dont think that is bad, is just a matter of point of view.

  • Because the music is part of the whole package (title, video and audio). And I was giving, as you stated, my point of view.

  • well i thought the music went very well with the video

  • love the video it's one of the best gymnastic videos

  • gymnastics still is beautiful what are you all talkin about

  • its amazing to see how gymnastics used to b. i wish we could bring back the sport that our parents grew up loving, the reason they put us in this sport. it seems that the artistic part of gymnastics has been diminished by preforming powerful skills.

  • im naming one of my kids after Sevtlina Khorkina

  • i love the way she gets on the bars at 1:47

  • Simply the BEST gymnastics montage i've ever seen.

  • SUPER! Brought back so many great memories of gymnast gone-by. THANK YOU

  • great montage but does anyone no the names of the first two songs

  • Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler

  • Hello anyone could answer me who is the gym of time 00:19 minutes?

I would very much like to know now is that time I try to find out!

    Kiss

  • It's Natalia Lashenova from 1989 worlds

  • Sublime. What TRUE artistic gymnastics should be. Thank you for sharing. :)

  • Gymnastics is still Beautiful. You just have to look past the pain ! =D

  • my favourite montage! AMAZING!!!

  • The soviets were beautiful gymnasts, mostly because the training was hard as hell.

  • Hard as hell, or with more classical ballet and dance training? They trained two hours a day every day before even getting into their gymnastics.

Their training schedule ranged from 25 hours a week to about 35. They had often ten or eleven coaches watching 20-25 gymnasts at a time. Their system could afford that. Imagine how good a gymnast you could be with 10+ coaches watching and correcting?

Anyways, this part of the sport has to come back somehow.

  • Their system couldn't afford all the coaches watching. That's why they fell. (Well a part anyway.)But I agree with you. Their artistic abilities is better than the ones that are competing now, though you mustn't forget the ones now are very talented.

  • Why do you say: "when gymnastics was beautiful"? Isn't gymnastics still beautiful?

  • I know what the poster means.. gymnastics is a pile of BS now.. many of the moves you see on this video you dont see them anymore these days.. many of those moves have just disappeared.. *sigh*

  • Why did many of the moves disappear?

  • they've either been outlawed or carry no perks in the new code of points. so gymnasts would rather get points than be articstic

  • I could not agree with you more. Today with but a few die-hard exceptions gymnastics has turned into power tumbling, sports acrobatics imo.

  • good i gusse to soft

  • sooo perfect, they worked so hard for it. (like china these days?)

  • the soviets was the best

  • your reely good

  • Video perfect , the I improved gymnastics already existing! From a technique & light incomparable in addition to a good deal elegant , Qual the title from gymnastics of the time 0019:? thank you

  • wow, that makes almost no sense!

  • Why do you have Khorkina (2:58P in your montage? She wasn't a Soviet Gymnast, she's a Russian Gymnast. She started competing on the elite lvl in 1994. Four years after the fall of the USSR.

  • Because she trained in soviet union for over 10 years, and she had a soviet coach. She did compete earlier but not as a senior

  • Yet Khorkina and Kotchetkova and Fabrichnova and Grosheva all trained under the soviet system for years before it fell. They were the last to carry on part of that legacy.

  • i want to be a coach when i am 16 or 17

  • i become coach when i was 18.5

    now i'm 20....

  • Amazing, amazing gymnats. We can only hope that they know how much we love and appreciate them. I quite coaching because I didn't want to use a gymnast as my creative medium. However I loved training through a no spot system. These young people are stunning: self confident; free will?. Let us always be mindful of the effect that we have on the ideas of perfection, success, and risk.
