I had intended the last sentence of my original post to have read 'Is this not the very essence of "jazz"'? It just seems to me that the term "fusion" has been sort of discredited, and now almost implies a failed divergent path in jazz history, full of bombast and excess. Labeling what MS plays as 'Fusion' sort of puts him in this bag where fans of "straight ahead jazz" ("real jazz") can ignore his contributions. I see his playing as fitting into this larger category we call jazz.
I was responding to the guy that said Mike is "well known for his fusion music". I have been thoroughly enjoying Mike's playing, Mike's music, for 25 years. You might try just shutting up and enjoying the music yourself.
I wasn't arguing with anyone until you butted in and told me to shut up. I was responding to the question posed by LukeDallert: "What would you call this music?" I'd call it jazz. Is that so terrible? Although I can enjoy music without having to label it, I have observed that jazz fans and critics too often disregard Mike Stern's brilliance, because he's "fusion", and that, somehow, because he bends strings, and doesn't play a big fat hollow-bodied guitar, he doesn't count.

Mike Stern is well known for his fusion music, so I thought it wouldn't be wrong to write "fusion" under the tags. What would you call this music???

We both evidentally enjoy Mike Stern's playing, which I commented on in the section beneath the video for comments. Why are you so offended by that?
