I play this and I know that it isn't meant to be staccato because I play it! And it sounds bad like that but still well done you are obviously a talented player. What grade are you?
basically you can play it anyway you want, as long as it has the correct rhythm, notes and phrasing. there is always contoversy over staccato or legato, especially pieces from baroque because those instruments did not have sustain ability. u can write to the royal schools and ask them personally, they are obligated to tell you whether to play legato or staccato :)
The Examiners DO NOT MIND if the piece is staccato or legato as long as it suits the piece your playing (eg. Your hardly going to play a sad, blues song with staccato are you?) A Certain Amount Of Musical Interpretation Is Ok. Hope this helps! :-)
I'm an old git trying to learn the pieces for Grade 1. One thing I will say is that the selection is fantastic -- I love all the pieces, African Dance far and away my favourite of the lot. Hope this continues into the higher grades.
His dynamics were okay!! I would like to see the average grade oner put in a better performance! Remember this was written for a string orchestra, and their dynamics are usually no better.
Was played note perfect!. However, did you observe the "F" (fortisimo) and "p", in this piece?, as it sounded (to me at least) all the same "velocity".
Well, I have a "Velocity" sensitive Electronic keyboard as well as a piano, and i meant that when you play the same "loudness", you use the same velocity (on keyboards that is)"!
""The piano responds to the force with which the keys are initially pressed by changing how hard or fast the hammers strike the strings, which in turn changes the tone and volume of the resulting note or chord; it is velocity sensitive"""
may I ask why you have chosen to play the whole pice staccatto? ( i just need advise as am teaching this piece 2 my lil cousin) Any specific reason, i.e. because it is for string orchestra..plucking strings maybe?)
I agree, too much staccato, and slow down near the end. It's my B piece. I picked, Autumn, Kummer, and T-Rex.

only 1 mistake that you have 2 play slower at the end
crip23walk23 2 years ago
i wouldnt call that a mistake. The piece is metrical, and from the baroque period. Its not a requirement, merely how you interpret the music.

velocity is speed. so i'm guessing you meant volume and were trying to sound intelegent?
