This was the absolute worst movie I've seen in a long time, starting with the poor filmmaking, cheap lines and overdone acting to the despicable message it sends, that it's OK to take the law in your own hands.
@Killuminati911 I'm 100% against Pedophilia but i know teenage girls from broken homes who just accept it as a lifestyle and actually seek out older men because they know that an older man means more money for weed, cloths, alcohol, etc. because older men usually have better jobs than a teenage boy their age. It's very wrong but I know grown men who don't care and also teenage girls who also feel the same.
@Killuminati91: yeah, because it's Ok to take justice in your own hands, torture is OK in some cases and not everyone has the right to a fair trial. If the movie had been about a pedophile torturing a minor, it wouldn't even hit the screens, but the opposite is just OK.
@auriciangelescu I dont believe pedofiles deserve justice. But your wrong look at : The Girl Next Door., An American Crime., Lolita., Little Children., The Hills Have Eyes even Donnie Darko
@auriciangelescu they got to realize that they are predators hunting young and innocent who cant defend themselfs and if they lays hands on there prey they will hurting them forever they for sure dont show terrorist justice pedofiles should get the same treatment
@auriciangelescu You have to realise that the opposite is okay because the general public, sorry if that doesn' include you, don't like pedophiles. So its okay to torture pedophiles. An eye for an eye, it may not be right but it appeals to our sense of justice and sticking it to the bad guy. And its just a movie.
because after hayley left to go to the roof or something, jeff came out and looked at the knife and it looked like jelly. and then he sighed like he was mad. hayley just faked the whole thing
I love Hard Candy and how much it messes with your mind. It was so well written and acted and what made it better was that the paedophile wasn't some creep but a good-looking, successful guy. It'shard to work out who's the bed person in this though - is it Jeff because he (possibly) slept with some underage kids or was it Hayley because she tortured him and made him commit suicide?
I love the coloring in this movie. It seems warmer, brighter when theres a calmer moment between the two but colder and dimmer when they get frustrated or angry or what have you.
This was a brilliant movie, very well written. Ellen was great but I absolutely loved Patrick in this. There's this mellow, good-guy look in his eyes that made the character much more complex. He's done a great job with a very difficult role!
the best way to sum up hard candy in simple terms is, what happens when little red riding hood decides to go after the big bad wolf instead of the other way around.
In the movie I believed Ellen was the predator and Patrick was the Prey. Just the way she had the whole thing up. Very interesting movie. If u have the extra time watch it.
AntiSocioMedia - this is pretty much my favorite movie too. I LOVE it. Love Ellen Page. Love the weird Blond Redhead song at the end of the movie, "Elephant Woman". I really appreciate how the movie didn't show much (sex/violence/blood), but implied a lot.
Patrick Wilson was also one of the leads in the Phantom of the Opera movie (he can really sing). I can't believe it's R18, there is hardly any actual violence in it, no actual knife-cutting shown, and no nudity or sexual content.
Well that's what gave the movie it's meaning , i mean hears a girl that coaxes a guy to commit suicide and then she leaves unnoticed like she wasn't even there and then that Elephant woman plays......................................that was powerful
I think it also has a lot to do with your experiences and how you think. I completely understood every aspect of this movie the first time I saw it.
I was amazed that such a straight-forward honest movie came out sort of "exploiting" the typical male mentality and their constant chase for "younger girls."

i didn't really like it. ellen page is being way to over dramatic for a 14 year old, i STILL don't know what's up with that girl donna, that asian woman didn't make any sense and i certainly don't get the plot. ok, he jumps. why? what kind of retard let's a 14 year old girl convince him to take his own life? anyway, sorry if i spoiled the movie for people who didn't see it yet.
Well, yea it is one of those movies u have to see twice or maybe 3 times and u have to RELLY pay attention to completely get it. But to clear some things up for u..Donna was the girl that was missing and eventually got killed, the asian woman was a neighbor who saw Haley on the roof and he jumps at the end because he took part in Donna's murder and he didnt wanna go to prison. Makes sense?
The viewer does not only get to see the monster in the man... but the man behind the monster. Paedophiles are repulsive, yet at the same time just as vulnerable as you and I.
In Hard Candy you get to see a "bad guy" show genuine fear, doubt, embarrassment... even kindness.
I think it's healthy to see films that challenge us like Hard Candy does, they help make our view of the world multi-dimensional.
See it :) It won't make you harbor any ill will towards Wilson, just admire him more.
Who ever dislikes the movie is a fucking hater this movie was fucking great!!!!!!!
