In the 1930's when hemp was made illegal; the American Medical Association did not know until it was too late what marijuana was. Hemp being illegal is denying cholesterol intolerant people their best option for quality protein and Omega fatty acids. If smoking hemp flowers makes you feel paranoid; it is because you are paranoid, and in all likelihood; know not what paranoia is.
I am a strict libertarian and agree completely with what you're saying (about drugs specifically). Be careful labeling your views on drugs as "left wing".
This has been bothering me a lot lately. I am essentially as far right as you could be. The way I would define my views in one sentence is this: To think like me when faced with an issue, go with the option that yields freedom from the government. In that way I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and pro-drugs, yet totally right wing.
Your conclusion for the low prison population being lower in Holland because of "free medical care, free universities..." is blantantly spurious and self-serving. Seriously, I trust you would not offer this up to a professor in one of your sociology courses. You do-did-go to university, no?
You obviously are poorly read on the topic of socialism. Socialism- It is not an unalloyed good- doesn't merely take money from a lot of people to give to others, for a bunch of "free stuff". Socialism requires a collectivism that must in turn be centrally controlled, bureaucratically, technically, and by the absolute, albeit "benevolent", power of the state. It makes no consessions for real self-determination, in extreme form; in other forms of socialism, there is the veneer of free-marketism.
If you think that medical marijuana laws are out of compassion, think again, If you think that medical marijuana laws today will spell the freedom to use it for all, legally, tomorrow, think again. If you think that marijuana is a drug, and must be regulated by the state and medicine, aka the Therapeutic state, you Are a socialist-statist. I say, the state has no more right to regulate and control what an adult consumes, be it ideas or drugs! Anything else is a paternalistic state!
There is no free anything in a socialist country someone has to pay for it. Government does not generate wealth people that work and produce generate wealth. I do agree with the drug issue though. I think that a lot of our courts are filled and back logged with cases that are not as serious as capital crimes and are minor drug related problems.
@beholder1980 Read my comment. I do love how the Europeans say they love universal this and that, without realizing that its not just learning from the Europeans to have the same in the U.S. Case in point: Obamacare is a still birth, as far as I am concerned. Nothing new under the sun. So if the European system is so good, why has it not been grafted onto the U.S system? What is there, whether I now pay into a govt. run healthcare cartel-some choice-or pay a fine? Statist-medicine. Loose-loose
@haunter230 yep. and every news broadcast otside of here doest give two fying fucks about it. i mesn we have a pretty damn powerful army, and the dictato here is openly tryigf to start a war with the US and colombia.
I'm a dirty Socialist/Communist and I think all you say is right (if you misread that, I'm a dirty Socialist/Communist *commence screaming*). Now, of course, I agree with all you say and I also have a little more to add.
I'm from England where we have free education, free healthcare and free dental care. I'm not sure if you'll have heard of the NHS but, in all fairness, it's brilliant.
@MrSovetski You must be stupid to have been brainwashed into thinking that the services this so called government of ours provides is 'free' . Raised taxes, taxes, more taxes. Which means even though it doesn't look like we're paying for these 'privileges' we are.
@MrSovetski Your right to be proud of those things but they are in danger. Dont ever think they cant take it away because they can, and in fact, they mean to.
I totally agree about not jailing drug addicts, and decriminalizing drugs. I always thought jail was supposed to separate people from us who were dangerous. Jails and prisons should only be for violent crime.
I agree with the legalization of marijuana, as it is unconstitutional, but the US certainly does not need to become any more socialist. Socialism is just the first step onto the slippery slope of communism. If the government has enough power to give you everything you want, it also has the power to take away everything.
LoL not all the thing you say about our country is true :p But the thing about the prisons is true haha! The Belgium government is now renting Dutch prisons because they got 2 many there! So the prisons arent closing yet.
you are wrong the reason netherlands crime rate is lower is because they are almost all white, the united states crime rate is higher due to all the hispanics and blacks.
that's weird, being Canadian i don't think about it, but the less fortunate here are more fortunate than most Americans. my mom works at a school too so i grew up with free dental :D
I have to agree that socializing our health care isn't going to be this amazing turn around for our country. Although your views on legalizing cannabis are correct. The strain that stupid law causes on our prisons is easily visible, and let's not forget the huge impact for good when hemp is legalized and we have a new cash crop too!
Great stuff Maxie. I lived in Amsterdam for a semester of college and I agree 100% with your findings. I wanted to stay there forever. I will return one day, as that place attracts the most diverse, intelengent people you'll find anywhere. Its so nice experiencing a culture of tolerence, nothing like it! Keep up the good work!
Absolutely spot on! We, the US, could also take a page from our northern bretheren in Canada, it seems your health system has worked pretty well for quite a while. Yes, legalize marijuana please.
You can't get rid of problems simply by making them legal. Also, if you legalize some of the harder drugs, there will be more problems that will tax the social services such as healthcare. Tobacco is already on the top list of people killers, we don't need another hard drug that does that kind of permanent damage to your body, it will just make providing free healthcare harder. Mary Jane is great, but it's not for everybody. You can get addicted to it aswell, and addiction is never cool.
ROFL that was an awesome vid. and it's very true, if certain things like health care and university are free, then we wouldn't have to deal with ppl stealing money to pay their bills. i'm gonna have to pay at least $40,000 for university fees by the time i'm done... that's like, 20,000 times i could've bought a meal at Tim Hortons! No wonder so many americans are in jail...
2 THE EXTENT THAT IT IS TRUE that prisons in Holland are closing due to lack prisoners [amidst a 'youth culture' at a law-breaking age] your airing of it is an extremely effective argument. It isn't just a random 'correlation'. If I may critique you the intro was a little TOO long in that a % of your viewers don't have the time/ patience/maturity 2 wait to hear the meat of your argument.
this country you call the netherlands; i happen to live there, what i see is that all antisocial/capitalist/commercial/privatisation measures are blindly taken over from the US and big businesses, the netherlands wants to be with "the winner"; privatisation, socialist values are laughed at..... "they lost"...
more and more we will all go to the few that possess everything, just look at russia, also following the "winning" anti-social commercialisation and privatisation of the money-god....
Hmmmm this Video has nothing to do with Socialism... Your arguments come from a Libertarian standpoint, your right in saying its about improving social standards, nationalisation of healthcare etc... But your wrong about taking from the rich giving to the poor. Its more about dismantling the class structure altogether, getting rid of rich and poor.
I suggest going to Holland yourself, its still a Capitalist country, but just Liberal.
All of the arguments against prohibition come from classical liberalism and have nothing to do with socialism. Also healthcare is not 'free' in the Netherlands.
In Europe when we call ourselves 'liberals' we mean something completely different to what Americans do when they use the word. By 'liberal' Europeans mean CLASSICAL LIBERAL not social democrat.
This isn't really an argument for socialism. It's more of an argument for LIBERTARIANISM!! Socialism has nothing to do with the legalisation of drugs in Holland.
I'm really sorry, I'm from Holland, and I love my country, but....we don't have free childcare, or free healthcare (we pay 100 euros a month each), or free university...I wish it was true! We are all so relaxed because of the weed (hahaha). Good luck everybody! xxx
Here in Canada marijuana is technically illegal, but the cops lay off users if they stay low profile. Why fight a losing battle, right? They still go after the farms and dealers, but with legalization there'd be enough tax revenue to put a Canadian on the moon (or to fund some other exorbitant government project).
Tobacco kills, marijuana mellows. Put them on an even legal keel and let's see who wins. But no, the tobacco lobby won't allow that!
Legalize pot =O that would be a scary world.. Europe is nothing but socialists, so it fits them.. But we need to practice capital punishment more often! All those child molesters and murderers need the electric chair my man!Thats even Biblical, Deuteronomy 19:11-13
I understand that in the super-neoliberal nations like the US, the Netherlands looks like a social paradise. And if you look at the two, yes we have better social and labour legitation. But we aren't a socialist society, we are working at it:P, but sadly we aren't yet. Our society is going backwards on social laws and more to the neoliberal course of the US. And now healthcare is getting more expensive, poverty is rising. Its heading to a social disaster like in the US.
Absolutely RIGHT (right meaning correct, not republican ... ahem). Ironically, I'm sure that if drugs were legalized and both State and Federal gubmints collected sales tax on them ALL, we could PAY for national health care and provide FREE rehab for anyone who wanted to kick the drug habit. 5 STARS.
Also, one thing you forgot is that the Netherlands do not have an illegal immigration problem, where many of those illegals are filling the jail system.
I agree about the legalization bit, our prisons woould be less crowded and disputes could be settled without violence. However, socialism is inherently unjust, immoral and un-American. Socialism says that your rights are granted from the government, and that the government owns you. How else could it claim a right to your money, a symbol of your time and labor? America was founded on the idea that YOU own you and govenrment cannot claim any ownership over you, including your time and toil.
I agree totally!!! Legalize it!!!! (Peter Tosh has a great song about it)
And I believe your right about socialism. . . . Is hard to live in a world with so much violence and many of that violence born in the economic injustice between countries, communities and persons.
Do You speak spanish? I write better in my language . . .
marijuana legal, i agree other highly dangerous drugs should not be as it drives some certain people crazy. i dont ever recall a stoner being crazy, the vid would have been cool to be only 4:20 long, although all your points are valid,.. it is my belief that if pot was legal,.. other drugs would fall to the wayside,.. drugs that take human interaction to make should be the ones to be illegal,.. other than watering and proper fertilization
yes your absolutely correct legalize it all in fact there was a point in time when all drugs were legal in the united states about 1907 or maybe a little bit later were drugs made illegal. 5 stars
good job dude. the problem is the most educated people actully dont heed the advice of their education. They read it...learn it...and do just the opposite....Time to learn from history or else we shouldn't learn it in the first place.
If the whitehouse was full of potheads we would have a mellow country!!
Just a few points I like to think of about the Legalization of Marijuana in the U.S.:
1. Consider how much money is being poured into the "War on Drugs" here in the States.
2. Consider how much money could be made by taxing Marijuana (just like tobacco and alcohol are taxed).
3. Consider the ridiculous inflows of revenue for the government if Marijuana were to be legalized. At least some of that would eventually be put to good use - certainly a better use than the current situation.
Yes Holland could teach a lot - ie teenage pregnancies low-openess re sexuality-but drugs like marj. lead to psychosis in so many people which recurrs again in early 40's-all food for thought
That was very interesting! =) I agree with your 'legalize marihuana' statement. May I point out that in Belgium it is also legal to carry a certain (small) amount of marihuana (for personal use only. The law is still a bit fucked up about it. But hey! At least they don't throw us in prison for having a joint on us =) )
Now, Now. How are we supposed to keep the poor people in prison if we legalized drugs? And if there weren't poor people, who would I pay to to stand outside my dining room window in the dead of winter while me and my loved ones feasted Turducken and Oyster buffets?
Think of the tax revenue for the state !! It´s still the best argument in favor of legalizing drugs. That´s how you could finance all the free universities and day care !
Shame on you! You need a target audience Clap clap clap. Holy shit make sense, all drugs legal and free. I have been spewing that for 30 years. If we live in a free society I should be a free to choose and do anything I want as long as I dont hurt others. (Including animals) the government is not in business to protect me from me, but to protect me from others that would harm me. I Clap clap clap.
Socialism might be appropriate in third world countries but in the United States I still think that Capitalism would be the way to go. And Netherlands shouldnt be building so many prisons if there arent that many criminals.
PS your chin looks like Michael Phelps, John McCain, and Quagmire fell into a teleporter and their chins got fused together into an uberchin resulting in your chin. I mean seriously its enormous.
hey man, i like this. I feel the same way. Our federal money is being spent to upkeep prisons and the prisoners and so many of those are in there for pot. I say utilize that extra government expenditure through the legalization of marijuana and invest it in something that matters, ya know like getting us out of debt or lessening the unemployment/homeless rate. I mean c'mon, it isn't that difficult.
lol it's not 12.2 million but 16 million according to wikipedia.
it's true that in europe the left wing parties (socialists, green) are mostly pro weed compared to the conservative or religious parties (catholic or christians) however many left wing parties still want weed banned. don't forget that in not 1 country in the world weed is legal at the moment.
you pay more taxes unlike usa but I think quality life is better like here in Belgium (10 million people and only 10.500 people in jail)
I want some earl grey tea and Gilmore Girls please! LOL Good video Max, The insurance companies would be up in arms as they wouldn't get enough insurance policies if this was to happen.
your videos are excellent! this one specifically is absolute truth ..there are many problems in the western world, and it does seem that each new generations youth are not being raised as so called real people..where as places such as the Netherlands seem to be doing a hell of a lot better job at society managing!
Wow. This video made so much sense. Because of watching this video, I know believe that we should legalize marijuana. And I also believe in a mixed government. A government in which we can have people succeed in life, and get rich, but also have programs that don't forget about the people who never had those opportunities.
I totally agree! The thing is, that the states are makin way too much money by sending people to jail over BS. I think that's just one reason they wont legalize it.
they legalized drugs here (nobody really knew because we were on the swine flu crisis) things still suck (not as much I guess) but yeah, this is mexico, thing will always suck haha
The Gilmore Girls huh? Well it is a pretty good show. I am surprised that you only have a few comments. I would have thought there would be more opinionated thoughts outed. Hahah You do bring on a good point. That's all I have to say. Haha
Yep good vid we have socialism in the UK as well but not as much as we did have over 25 years back. Our recent governments have sold much of our nationalised companies off. We now have so called fat cat CEO's running the place.
Yeah, I heard Gilmore Girls is really good. I was afraid that if I watch it, my manhood might fall off, but if I keep hearing good stuff, I just might have to indulge.
I think marijuana shouldn't be legalized, but that it should be decriminalized everywhere. I'm afraid that if it's legalized, it'll go the way of the cigarette companies.
You forgot firearms, they are banned in most european countries. I n my country (Denmark) if you are caught with a firearm, you go directly to prison.
I dont mean to spoil your party, but we have 16-17 mill inhabitants. Besides that, THE fact that you have huge ethnic neighbourhoods (LA) that therefore drag éducation quality down is something that needs attention

"FREE" my ass! You just admitted that they take money from everyone, and then in the next sentence you called the social programs "free".
Do you think it's alright to steal from people, if you use their money to "help the poor"?

Absolutely RIGHT (right meaning correct, not republican ... ahem). Ironically, I'm sure that if drugs were legalized and both State and Federal gubmints collected sales tax on them ALL, we could PAY for national health care and provide FREE rehab for anyone who wanted to kick the drug habit. 5 STARS.
HurricaneHeidi 2 years ago
Love it! Haven't thought much about the drug thing, though. I guess things are more attractive when they are forbidden.

Also, one thing you forgot is that the Netherlands do not have an illegal immigration problem, where many of those illegals are filling the jail system.
coitalyeti 2 years ago
I agree about the legalization bit, our prisons woould be less crowded and disputes could be settled without violence. However, socialism is inherently unjust, immoral and un-American. Socialism says that your rights are granted from the government, and that the government owns you. How else could it claim a right to your money, a symbol of your time and labor? America was founded on the idea that YOU own you and govenrment cannot claim any ownership over you, including your time and toil.

I agree that pot should be legal but I'm not for socialism. I'm more for liberalism and minimal government involvement.
farmboy30117 2 years ago
you would like that huh?? DRUGS FOR ALL !!!!!!!
Duffman89detmig 2 years ago

QuantumPolagnus 2 years ago

Will you run for president, when you get old... Big tobacco and alcohol will do everything to keep it illegal!!!

lol it's not 12.2 million but 16 million according to wikipedia.
it's true that in europe the left wing parties (socialists, green) are mostly pro weed compared to the conservative or religious parties (catholic or christians) however many left wing parties still want weed banned. don't forget that in not 1 country in the world weed is legal at the moment.
you pay more taxes unlike usa but I think quality life is better like here in Belgium (10 million people and only 10.500 people in jail)

your videos are excellent! this one specifically is absolute truth ..there are many problems in the western world, and it does seem that each new generations youth are not being raised as so called real people..where as places such as the Netherlands seem to be doing a hell of a lot better job at society managing!

I always get people trying to insult me by calling me a socialist to which I can only respond, "Yeah, I am. Your point?"
Coincidently you could probably empty all those tea bags into the big plastic bag and sell it to some school children saying its pot.

Awesome video! I think that if Marijuana were legalized and TAXED, then a massive chunk of America's debts would be taken care of.
Xiany1 2 years ago
Wow. This video made so much sense. Because of watching this video, I know believe that we should legalize marijuana. And I also believe in a mixed government. A government in which we can have people succeed in life, and get rich, but also have programs that don't forget about the people who never had those opportunities.
Great rant!
