Well it's a great idea to have WAL-MART around because they/we have the lowest prices in the USA. I know that because I work for WAL-MART near Illinois off of I-255/I-270. Oh and another thing if you find a lower price we'll match it right at the registers for free. SWEET Charizard costume, but what about the voice? :)
Um, im trying to make a umbreon costume and im starting with the hand paws and feet... But i really want to do the head but i dont know where to get the ski mask and elastic... Where did you get yours???
hello, readers if your reading this dont stop or else.I hate comments like this.Post 16 videos in 30 minutes or a boy will kill you at midnight and has no legs or head.Everyone will forget you.remember the timer starts as soon as your done reading this
If you were to commission something like this, around how much would it cost for that person? I'm thinking of asking someone for a commission, but I just want to see price differences for full and partials.
you dont even realize how much this and all your other videos have helped me workning on my first fursuit X3
i've been working on a Banette fusuit but the one thing i cant figure out is the hood like thing that hangs on the back of his head.i cant figure out how to attach it, like to attach it somehow to the back of my head and work form there or somthing else X3 im afraid if i just attach it with just foam i may somehow rip or fall off over time but it cant be too heavy so i wont hurt my neck
Hello! I was just wondering if you ever wore this to a con? I'm working on a Spyro Gjinka (?) cosplay with wings in the same fashion that you are doing the Charizard ones and I was wondering if (if you did go to a con) anyone got onto you about them. I don't want to go to a convention and then get into trouble because my wings are out everywhere. Thank you! :)
Great video and very inspiring. I'm going to try and make a costume like this for my son this Hallowe'en. This may be a bit too ambitious for my skill level, but I will try anyway... when you talked about the head and how you "mask it all out" and cut the fabric, could you elaborate a bit more on that for me, or recommend how can one learn more about how to do that process (I'm really an absolute beginner). Thanks again for being so generous with your time and talent.
@victorng Thank you! When I created this Charizard costume, I had zero knowledge of sewing or much planning on what I was doing and it turned out alright. I'm confident that everyone has the capability to make something work for them with no experience. I will be making future tutorials covering the construction in more detail, but they won't be done in time for Halloween. I suggest looking at tutorials here: (fursuit[dot]livejournal[dot]com/profile) Matrices[dot]net tutorials is what I used.

@Ryuukuori Pick out your top favorites, then determine how easy they would be to turn into a wearable costume (the more human-shaped, the better) then determine which designs would be the simplest in terms of forms and colors/markings. Also the less compensation you have to do for body proportions, the better (example Pikachu's pretty simple, but he has an enormous head for his body and that is difficult to make into a proportionate mask to your body.)

I accidently made my tail too wide, but it looks ok. But, do you have a written walkthrough? I am puzzled with my FOOOAM!!!hehe. Keep up the good work!
@lionfeast Styrofoam will not handle stress because it is so brittle and won't hold up over time like foam can. I wouldn't suggest it but you can try. And packing tape is fine; duct tape is the best.

I like popping out sun glass lenses! you get to see alot better then the mesh and they still cant see you, I get them at the dollar tree ( love that place)
My wife and I are just starting out, and your walk through is helpful. She also thinks you're very sweet and talented. Me, I think you're cute and talented.
@netman76367 Aww, well thank you both! It's greatly appreciated and I'm glad my walkthrough was able to help you out. If you'd be interested in more costuming insight, I've got a bunch of other making-of/walkthroughs and tutorials you should find useful. Good luck to you on your projects!
so wat type of wire do you use for your tail? and how do you keep the wire in the middle, my friend tried putting wire in hers, ut it kept hitting the top, making it so you knew the wire was there.
a good way for sight in a mask is to use clear packing tape... u just pick the size u will see out of and put tape on bothe sides of eyes ... then color the tape with a sharpie...only do one side of the tape it would still look black but u can see so much more
I'll be making more (and better) costume tutorials in the future. So when I get those done, you're welcome to use them as reference for your black dragon :)
what size wire is that going threw the wings? and when you put the tape on the head , do you just cut it off and it wont be sticky? and how do i sew everything on to the head ? hand sew it or mechine? love your hair xD
I wire was either a 6 gauge or a 4 gauge copper grounding wire from Home Depot. The tape does not stick to the foam because it is porous. However, this is more true of large, flat areas. Around smaller details like tips of horns or spikes, it may tear the foam off when taking it off so tape it loosely and be careful. It's best to cut the tape off with an exacto knife.
Sewing the head can be done by hand or machine, whatever you're comfortable with. Since foam is squishy, you can create the head cover separately and slip it over the head and then glue it in place for a final touch. You may need to handsew certain areas. Every head is different. And most of the time if you're using fur, you can cover up seams with the fur itself (works better on longer piles) and you can get away with hotgluing it all together.
Look you rule cauz yo a pokemon fan AND iTOTTALY love pokemon but not the nerdish way.....no offence snd charizard iz the best pokemon az you can see from my name charisa3od555 :D...goood vid anyway
i'm going to be making an anthro dragon costume for my character dracomat (inferno5000 on deviantart), i can make the stilt that'll make me digitigrade but i'm not sure about the head, i've seen a few videos on making fur suit heads for wolves and stuff, but i can't find any dragons (apart from yours) and i was wondering if you could help me or maybe make a video showing everyone how to make stuff?
You can do a whole bunch of different things for your head... depending on what you have or what suits you best. Balaclava (Ski masks) are best... they fit to your head and are much more comfortable. Then you just add foam to the face... Just carve it how you want. Pm me if you need some more help with that kinda stuff.
ello :D in first place im a huge fan of all ur worsk you have made Owo im allways cheking u page to seee if you have new vids and stuff ^w^
anyways going to the main thing o_o
im working on a costum and i already made the head.. and i cut the fabric that is going to cover the foam, but im not sure if i should cover first the inside of the mouth or wait until everithing else is covere, so if you could help me o.o i would thank you for ever :3
Hello there! Thanks for continuously coming back to check out my videos I appreciate it <3
And of course I can help you out! Now while it's a personal preference and either way is fine, I suggest that you line the inside of the mouth first before covering the rest of the head. When I did Aerodactyl,I got the cover done first but left the area around the mouth unglued until I lined the inside. It worked but the head fabric got in the way a bit
Hope that helps! I'd love to see your progress too.
I'm planning on making a Charmander or a Totodile costume for an upcoming anime convention. I'm pretty sure most of the material won't be that difficult to purchase... except... that Airtex stuff is really expensive. On average, how much does a slab of Airtex cost you? I don't want to get the cheap stuff and have it all nasty after a year of wear, but I don't want to spend a fortune on foam. Plus, I don't want to spend 50 bucks on foam that's worth about 20.
Thanks! Oooh, Charmander or Totodile would be sooo cute! The Airtex brand foam is very expensive. Unfortunately.
At Jo~Anns, the price for a 2" piece is 30 dollars a yard! I suggest get it on sale (Jo~Ans is having a 50% off sale May 22-25) But if you want a nice high density foam that's a little cheaper, Hobby Lobby carries a brand called Poly Foam that's a LOT less expensive. I can note you the price list if you'd like.
In any fabric store. Jo-anns or Hancocks should have it. And of course online. ^^ Comes in different colors (though rule of thumb, the darker it is, the easier it is to see through)
Sorry, I meant to say that you can color it in any color because it comes in white. There are also different sizes of holes as well; you'll probably have to test them out yourself. Also check out craft and sewing stores like Hobby Lobby.
and good job

Actually, there's an easy way to make movable jaws by just cutting slits in foam. c:

what size wire is that going threw the wings? and when you put the tape on the head , do you just cut it off and it wont be sticky? and how do i sew everything on to the head ? hand sew it or mechine? love your hair xD
icypawsgjks 2 years ago
I wire was either a 6 gauge or a 4 gauge copper grounding wire from Home Depot. The tape does not stick to the foam because it is porous. However, this is more true of large, flat areas. Around smaller details like tips of horns or spikes, it may tear the foam off when taking it off so tape it loosely and be careful. It's best to cut the tape off with an exacto knife.
CanineHybrid 2 years ago
Sewing the head can be done by hand or machine, whatever you're comfortable with. Since foam is squishy, you can create the head cover separately and slip it over the head and then glue it in place for a final touch. You may need to handsew certain areas. Every head is different. And most of the time if you're using fur, you can cover up seams with the fur itself (works better on longer piles) and you can get away with hotgluing it all together.
Thanks for the compliment on my hair too :3

i'm going to be making an anthro dragon costume for my character dracomat (inferno5000 on deviantart), i can make the stilt that'll make me digitigrade but i'm not sure about the head, i've seen a few videos on making fur suit heads for wolves and stuff, but i can't find any dragons (apart from yours) and i was wondering if you could help me or maybe make a video showing everyone how to make stuff?
tardisboy 2 years ago
You can do a whole bunch of different things for your head... depending on what you have or what suits you best. Balaclava (Ski masks) are best... they fit to your head and are much more comfortable. Then you just add foam to the face... Just carve it how you want. Pm me if you need some more help with that kinda stuff.

im working on a costum and i already made the head.. and i cut the fabric that is going to cover the foam, but im not sure if i should cover first the inside of the mouth or wait until everithing else is covere, so if you could help me o.o i would thank you for ever :3
JcMb94 2 years ago
Hello there! Thanks for continuously coming back to check out my videos I appreciate it <3
And of course I can help you out! Now while it's a personal preference and either way is fine, I suggest that you line the inside of the mouth first before covering the rest of the head. When I did Aerodactyl,I got the cover done first but left the area around the mouth unglued until I lined the inside. It worked but the head fabric got in the way a bit
Hope that helps! I'd love to see your progress too.

Nice costume. =]
Thanks. ^-^
ChibiSoldier 2 years ago
CanineHybrid 2 years ago
Alright. I'll keep an eye out for any sales in the future. I'll check out the Poly Foam stuff as well.
I'd appreciate it if I could get a note on the price of Poly Foam. Please and thank you!

You could try running really hot water over the plastic bowl to soften it enough to cut it with scissors

Okay so where do you buy aida cloth?
potterwatchers 3 years ago
In any fabric store. Jo-anns or Hancocks should have it. And of course online. ^^ Comes in different colors (though rule of thumb, the darker it is, the easier it is to see through)
CanineHybrid 3 years ago
Sorry, I meant to say that you can color it in any color because it comes in white. There are also different sizes of holes as well; you'll probably have to test them out yourself. Also check out craft and sewing stores like Hobby Lobby.
