  • please read my comment in the 1st video of this excellent series

  • great music!

  • Is this Westminster Cathedral? Or maybe St. John's Cambridge?

  • listen to the pitch change at 2 14 , lovely stuff

  • Which choir is it? Boy sopranos I guess.

  • no, it's a "normal" mixed choir with 4 voices/parts.

  • 4 voci soliste

  • i love Palestrina...absolute fantastic Music

  • Schmbot, could you upload the Latin text and a possible translation of the Benedictus? Palestrina's music is gorgeous, no doubt, but I would love to know what they are singing about.

  • The Latin text is:

"Benedíctus qui vénit in nómine Dómini.

    Hosánna in excélsis."

    In English:

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

    Hosanna in the highest."

  • The Benedictus, I might add, is that part of the Mass which immediately follows the Sanctus and precedes the Canon.

  • No... in the Latin High mass.. it is sung after the Consecration prayers

  • It is not; check your Missal.

  • This is such a beatuiful song.

  • not a song, a part of the Roman Catholic Mass

  • is this an opera?

  • No, it's a mass.

  • mass?

  • Missa Papae Marcelli, or Pope Marcellus Mass, is a mass by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. It is his most well-known and most often-performed mass, and is frequently taught in university courses on music. It was always sung at the Papal Coronation Mass (the last being the coronation of Paul VI in 1963.

    It's beautiful, isn't it

  • I go to the Latin Mass every Sunday, so I know very well what this is, thank you.

  • what does that have to do with recognizing internet trolls?

  • I thought that you were using the term in the vocative. Do I seem to be an internet troll to you?

  • Please do excuse me, I had not seen the above discussion, and thought you were referring to me! Ignore my posts in this thread.
