Yeah it was a joke. You had a couple of real fighters mixed in with 'tough guys'.

I remember a guy called Pat Stewart(?) mounted a 10th dan ninja guy and rained blows down on him - which just really messed up his face. Pat stopped himself and you could see he was pissed at the guy's corner because they didnt throw in the towel and the ref was a tad too slow.

Really unprofessional. It brought the importance of jijitsu forward (even though it was biased)

Don Frye was actually one of the first examples of someone who could both strike and grapple with some effectiveness back in the day.

It's amazing how quickly the sport evolves, though. There's a big difference between the fighters now and the fighters five years ago.

And now that MMA is kind of a martial art in itself, often it just seems most people are clones and you don't see any really unique contestants anymore. It's partly because they are all more rounded in different areas, but would be nice to see more more unique fighters.

I don't think fighters have got a lot tougher, they are just better all rounders as they learnt from the early UFC etc that Jujitsu is important.
