  • JAJAJAJaja, yes, Jimmy, so fucking hide!

  • baaaaaaaaws

  • I'd like to see some of you switch FX like he does. Moving a few fingers around ain't shit. Look at that motherfucking pedal board. Your silly ass would get lost quick..

  • 99% effects...

    101% skill!

  • Effing solo!

  • Doug is look like Predator. :)

  • actually if it wasnt for this guy ya'll the funky ass basslines heard on almost all of sugarhill records would be non exsistant. doug is a bad mutha fukka with or without efx. lest we forget he was george clintons bassist too. and the shit he did with tackhead and living colour is off the damn chain. im a bass player myself and i play with a mutron, chorus, phaser, and a delay . what kills me is that a muthafukka who cant play or wants to play goes and diss and hate on cats who can.

  • goddamnit! what the fuck is wrong with all you morons, talking shit that he is ''hiding behing his effects'' or that Wimbish is a ''wannabe guitar player''?

you know what, you are all a bunch of fuckfaces. doug is one of the best bass players ever on this planet, and he shows what is possible with a bass guitar.

so cut the crap and just watch this, will ya??

  • @Basstard22

We gotta all ignore these trolls/morons before they render all us musicians insane permanently.

Ever notice most of these types can't even type, never mind think and/or hear.

Can you imagine how bad someone must be on the bass of typing is beyond them?

    Peace..!N

  • @JNeifion You are absolutly right there! We just have too ignore the haters. I have to say I'm a bit worried, that more and more people know less about music. Like this performance, it's not just music, its a piece of art, which opens new paths for the world of music. To badly it's not accepted that great by people...

  • he's hiding behind shitty effects pedals

  • victor wooten could play circles around this guy

  • @clifton062 no fuckin way u dumb moron

  • @clifton062 dude victor wooten is great and all but seriously, music isnt a competition, its art

  • when he plays the harmonics in that melodic form all i think is Jaco and i keep expecting to hear some form of Portrait of Tracy

  • idk what happened i turned the volume up then my brain imploded and i deficated in my pants... oh man these peyote buttons haaa

  • Together with Bootsy my main bass influence!

  • 2:07 even the sound guy is like "Where is that sweet sound coming from?" =O

  • I'd really like to hear a jam with Doug and John Frusciante, I think that would be really interesting.

  • i really wanna know what pedals he use around 1:00

  • @Bioclay88 envelope filter

  • 3:38 s'cuze me while i melt your soul 0_0

  • I agree that technically he is great but I do not find one single note of this pleasurable to listen to. It is horrible noise. Would someone actually put on a CD of this and listen to it?

  • @MrRockmeister1 this is garbage.

  • freaking awesome!

  • 1:28-1:29 sounds like he's about to go into portrait of tracy

  • he looks like shaman. saw him playing in Prague. Incredible great.

  • THE GREATEST BAS GUITAR PLAYER HAVE SEEN!!

I CANT WAIT UNTILL I GET MY BASS GUITAR AN START MY LESSONS!

  • wimbish is the man. sorry

  • 1:28 its almost bein in heaven its so fucking relaxing its another song of doug¿? or thats all? i will love that there was a full song with that riff

    sorry about my bad english

  • @Kharn8181 It sounds to me pretty similar to "Pictures of Tracy", by Jaco Pastorius. But I might be wrong...

  • @Tochudin investigate that this song is from funk jungle disk, Vinx, Will Calhoun and DW the riff of the beginning is played in the song perculator

and sorry but portrait of tracy but has no similar with this song...no disrespect to anyone

  • @Kharn8181 I was only referring to the 1:28 section, where Doug plays harmonics, it reminded me to it. I know the song is from mr Wimbish.

    Peace! ;)

  • The FUNKY Portrait of Tracy

  • hes shreds on the fuckin bass man i cant do that on a guitar

  • Epic GENIUS!

  • at 0:10 it's like he's loading a funk shot gun.

  • Damn he's high! It's easy to see that concert was in Amsterdam!

  • 2:17 it's not just groove, but great feeling.

  • Doug is my idol. And i love the bass and always will.. I get into a trance just by looking at the bass guitar every time.

  • Can any of you bass players give me a good webpage or book i can read to learn more about sound effects for bass guitar?

  • hahahah funkadelic =D

  • he looks high as fuck

  • The Hendrix of bass guitar?? Maybe yes.

  • @albertmetal93 Hendrix of bass for me would be Bootsy :-)

  • @albertmetal93 Ha! No such thing, silly.

  • wonderfully mind blowing.........it is like a form of meditation.....a wonderful trance...can you dig it man!!!!!!!!!

  • Doug, Les, Jaco... all these guys went their way so it's pointless to compare them ! Music is not a competition.

  • He's relaxed in this video. This is the original hip hip bassist you ignoramuses. Ever heard of SUGARHILL? He was 17yo then. Read books, read the backs of albums, follow the names, stop hanging with bass nerds who compare everyone to someone else (please), that's just plain weird. Say some of this crap to his face and see the back of his hand. Go play a gig and get paid. Well, that's my opinion and advice to some, very few, of the previous posts.

  • @funkishbass or really high

  • @pumberdog Not before the gig!

  • @funkishness ha ha true... but you never know! i mean santana took a hit of acid when he performed at woodstock.... but yeah!

  • esto malo joder el mejor acid jazz lo totiene groove armada o portishead

  • Comparing Les to Doug is like comparing a 70's Fastback Mustang to a brand new Ferrari F430. They are both amazing for completely different reasons.

  • nice sideburns! wish i was there.

  • acid much?

  • 1:45.. Alison Goldfrapp:P

  • nice ride!

  • Clay-who? Les WISHES he could even get CLOSE to this guy...

  • this guy is un-fucking-believeable! And like I'm sure many have posted about this guy, he DEFINITELY embodies the spirit of Jaco, but with totally his own ideas and musicality..... holy shit! :)

  • this guy is un-fucking-believeable! And like I'm sure many have posted about this guy, he DEFINITELY embodies the spirit of Jaco, but with totally his own ideas and musicality..... holy shit! :)

  • what is name of that shirt that he is wearing i mean that style of t shirts

  • @SilentAlien55 - it's called tie-dye

  • @mandiblephone thank you very much you helped a lot... :)

  • Absolutely underrated as a bass guitar "artist" in the true sense - I ASK YOU - when was the last time ANY bassist took you on this kind of a sonic journey ? Just amazing / innovative / ingenious / novel. The problem with human nature and fame is that he would have to die to then get a reputation as one of the "best of all time" - and all that other nonsense.

  • @hesellsmystuff listen to "yossi fine"

  • fantastic !!

  • portrait of tracy?

  • No

jaco is the teacher of many bass players

    Doug is very original

  • Doug is extremely original

But Jaco opened so many doors for bassplayers... that every single kid that gets a bass should say a prayer to him.

  • What the fuck... 0:50 .... Funkadelic hit it and quit it

  • man..... i can barely play that fast with 2 fingers and even slower with a pick but this guys kills me with his damn THUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great job doug hahaha

  • master

  • Hmm, he's been recording since the 70s and you call him a Claypool wannabe? Quit now. You sound pretty stupid.

  • @Soul74 cLAY POOL IS BAD BUT NOT LIKE dOUNG

  • @ronnyrage My comment was for blimblamjackson.

  • @Soul74

    he he thats spot on.

  • @Soul74 fucking right

  • @Soul74 actually dude anyone with an ear for the bass guitar would say this guy sucks.

  • @clifton062 "An ear for the bass guitar"? What the hell does that mean? Nothing against Wooten, but which one of those two bassists has their phone ringing constantly for sessions and gigs?

  • @Soul74 i would def say wimbish has more structure than claypool.....some stuff claypool does just sounds like hes smacking his bass instead of creating some sort of rythem or sound lol.....but i will say both have a very unique style....its like almost comparing john myung to flea.....it cant be done

  • @DevinParker18 I have no problem with your statement. I was a huge Claypool fan back in high school and I still admire him for his originality and willingness to do whatever he damn well pleases. This was so long ago, I'm not even sure what the argument is about. I was (am) the biggest Living Colour fan, so I'm just sticking up for one of my favorites (although people tell me I play more like Muzz Skillings anyway).

  • @Soul74 Agreed man! No wannabe here

  • @blimblamjackson Drum machine? Loop? Beat box? You're retarded. His funk style is completely original, by the way. Les started recording in the 80's, this guy in the 70's. Not what I'd call a Claypool wannabe, ass hole.

  • @blimblamjackson ROFL!!!! Mate..... This guys style is nothing at all like Claypool. Les Claypool has a very distinct groove which is completely different to this.

You might be a moron, but really, there is no element in this that can be used to compare the 2.

  • YOur board and looper, are you some kind of musician?

  • It would seem so

  • @canismellyourhair can you show us your videos? iam excited to know how you play to say this its what you do in home

  • Weird and wonderful playing there, but am I missing something? On the side it says "alison goldfrapp (vocals)" but she doesn't appear to be here?? I only saw a flash of her between 1:40 and 1:50, does she ever actually sing on this show? I'm just interested to see more of her before Goldfrapp formed.

  • hit it and quit!! great tune! check also nickelbag version with stevie salas and bernard fowler!

  • rare!!!

    thank!!
