I definitely agree that JL King does NOT belong on the list. I wouldn't include Cleo Manago. While Ian Patrick Polk should be on list the cast of Noah's Arc doesn't. Wilson deserves it for his role as a gay minority teen on My So Called Life. I would have liked to have seen some pivoting historical figures as Bayard Rustin, Langston Hughes, Billy Strayhorn, Max Robinson, James Baldwin, Essex Hemphill, and E Lynn Harris. Peter Gomes is deceased. And, can Tim'm West get a shout out?
Though a very nice selection people--many of them I know personally--all great men to know. My only complaint is that your focus on religious leaders were all Christian...you ignored several other faiths...the breathe of black male spirituality and religious faiths has never been limited to Christianity. Remove the beam from your eyes.
@alienkid what kind of caucasian? Caucasian includes latinos and many other non-whites. And btw, most of these guys look black to me with a couple of exceptions.
@alienkid Oh sorry I didn't see the 2:18 you specified. Gordon D. Fox? Yeah he looks like he could be part Arab, Siciian, or other European. Just goes to show you the wide variety of black men. What was your point?
When did Anwars Robinson come out as gay? Cleo Manago doesn't identify as gay at all. Why on earth would anyone include JL King in this montage when he has made a living pathologizing black gay men to compensate for his own shortcomings?
@BLKPlusCapricorn I was going to type the same thing about JL King he does not deserve to be up there. He has exploited the gay culture & I truly feel he has helped to push the movement backwards than forwards.
And let's not forget those who have passed on:
Paul Winfield (actor)
Glenn Burke (baseball player)
Sylvester (artist)
Howard Rawlins (actor)

Great montage, thank you for the time, energy and patience in putting it together. It will be a blessing to many I'm sure.

You need to correct the spellings of the surnames for John, Kenyon, Maurice, and Samuel.
