I marched in Blue Devils in '83 + '84. Scott Johnson was the tenor instructor. The guy I knew would not want someone attacking another drummer, especially using his name, who was giving lessons for free to the entire world. Nor would he be so vain as to think he "invented" this toss. It's fairly simple and anyone who cared to toss sticks around for 30 minutes could come up with it on their own, as Van Did. I think Scott would say "thanks for sharing Van, keep it up"

It is a very simple marching band technique. If you watch any drum corp's you will see there are several versions of this type of thing. Yes, I did goof around with it 20 years ago with my drum line along with other cool flip techniques. This is best used with 2 drummers flipping the sticks back and fourth during it. That is where it came from. So... no, I have no clue who SCOJO is. RVP

I am using a double pedal. My main tip is to take your time with everything. You will get faster with time. Control before Speed! Buy a drum pad. Work on your hand technique playing rudiments. Playing the kit will all come in time. You will be amazed at what you can apply to the kit once you get control of your hands. Last but not least... buy my DVD! Ha Ha.
