  • pro mark!!!!!

  • lol 0:55

  • Hard working ahead ! But I liked the step by step and very clear explanation. Thanks a lot !

  • Im snare captain at mesa ridge high school and i wrote a cadence with our section leader that involves this trick. its pretty awesome. helps us win at parades even tho we dont need it. 5th in state

  • Thnx 4 share it, man!!

  • I marched in Blue Devils in '83 + '84. Scott Johnson was the tenor instructor. The guy I knew would not want someone attacking another drummer, especially using his name, who was giving lessons for free to the entire world. Nor would he be so vain as to think he "invented" this toss. It's fairly simple and anyone who cared to toss sticks around for 30 minutes could come up with it on their own, as Van Did. I think Scott would say "thanks for sharing Van, keep it up"

  • haha love this i guess i'll give it a try lol

  • i can do it now :D

    thanks!

    stop hating on him -.-

    anyway thanks dude!

  • i tried it the stick hit me in the nose and i got a nose bleed

  • Then you did it wrong.

  • That is awsome ...Sucks for me though now I got to learn to juggle too.(and maybe how to spell juggle)...

  • dude you get some real assholes commenting. I've been playing the drums for 25 years and I think your teaching is very easy for future drummers to pick up on.The cocky f#cks who comment probably can't play anything but double kick death metal beats anyway.

  • Nothing wrong with double kick death metal, man. But I get what you're sayin.

  • lol thats pretty neat. I will give it a try thankies ^^

  • Van, You're The Man!

  • you're videos are really cool!! Keep posting cause i'll definately benefit from them

  • hey Van I heard you had dvds with all this stuff on how do we get them?

  • vanzdrumming com

  • I bought the DVD...Online....cheap....Good Stuff...I still watch them...I wish I lived in Florida...I would take private lessons with him....

  • real drum videos? please clarify

  • wow...for someone who claims to know so much about corps< the fact that you dont know anything about scojo or probly about dci. dca. etc. is just a tell in your attempt at putting on a good poker face. but peace bro. keep up the the good work!

  • Never claimed to know so much about Corps. Let me know when you start posting some real drum videos and then we'll talk. Until then... Go Practice! RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • good video, very well explained..though at the beginning, 1.2.3.4 are quarter notes. Other than that, your video was good.

  • ha ha. see the only thing more pathetic than that attempt at a dis was problly the hours of sleep you lost coming up with it, and sadly im not hating on him. i just think its wrong to take credit for somone elses work...do you even know who ScoJo is?

  • It is a very simple marching band technique. If you watch any drum corp's you will see there are several versions of this type of thing. Yes, I did goof around with it 20 years ago with my drum line along with other cool flip techniques. This is best used with 2 drummers flipping the sticks back and fourth during it. That is where it came from. So... no, I have no clue who SCOJO is. RVP

  • Scott Johnson. Don't worry about this flamer. Good videos, you keep it up.

  • brazilDILLHOLE sux, why don't you go beat an old lady up somewhere?? van's an excellent drummer and has earned his own!!!! he aint takin credit for anyone but himself!!!

  • and your tech probly learned it fro m scott, just saying man, its not hate mail, but just a sugestion. work on more wrist and fingers and no arm when playing traditinol. your going to hurt yourself eventully otherwise

  • way to rip of scojo bro (scott johnson)

its not cool to take creidt for other peoples acheivments

  • I worked on this in my drum line in High School almost 20 years ago.

  • more like brazilDILLHOLE, why you come here and dis van? he's a killer drummer and don't have to take credit for anyone elses stuff,.. he's earned his own!!!!!

  • Van is cool man, enjoying his videos =)

    Like his fun =)

  • he says at the end its nothing special??

  • 2:23 ehhanyway sounded like peter griffin xD

  • true say :)

  • lolz

  • ESTE VIEJO SI QUE ES BUENO PAL TAMBOR

  • not bad dude, i like how its not over rehearsed, its just experience... cool beans

  • Cool! I want to learn that.

  • holy crap...

  • Nice tips. He's cute too.

  • Van is the shit....

  • i see okay

  • oh fuck whoot dooo weee havee heree?? another typical looooser that just because he can't do what the video guy does, insults him!! im shocked! never seen this before!! puh..leese .. dear god bless us all and deliver us from jerks like this that make the world be as it is! Way to go vans!!

  • looks like fun, thanks!

    @Randy

Great lesson, I like how you broke it down, now it seems do-able to me (with enough practice of course)! haha

  • slick. nice showmanship. a lot of drummers have forgotten that.

  • wow it looks like you have alot of drum sets

  • Do you havfe to play traditional grip to do this?

  • not for all stick flipping.. some stuff/ most stuff can be done easier when actually lobbing the sticks without trad grip

  • say randy, did u hav trouble going from marching snare sticks to drumset sticks? if so, was there anything u did to help?

  • Not really. Maybe you can buy a pair of sticks between what you play on the kit and what you play during marching band. Maybe a pair of 5B's

    RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • I like this man menn he's a good teacher.

  • what are the different stick grips? and what grip are you using?

I am from india and there are not many good drum teachers here hahahaha. The good drummers here dont wanna share their tricks. So ur lesson really help. I dont know what i would do if i din't hav people like u to help me out. Once again Thank's alot.

  • Do you any tips for me, im new at drumming, im just starting to take lessons.

Also, Are you using a double bass pedal?

  • I am using a double pedal. My main tip is to take your time with everything. You will get faster with time. Control before Speed! Buy a drum pad. Work on your hand technique playing rudiments. Playing the kit will all come in time. You will be amazed at what you can apply to the kit once you get control of your hands. Last but not least... buy my DVD! Ha Ha.
