well sometimes it works, like here it was not the right fit, but I see what they were going for. For example I always felt that Tangerine Dreams score of Legend was better than Goldsmiths, despite loving Goldsmith.
From another view, his music tends to portray very tender, provincial like melodies./ In this case it's seems as if he scored a quaint fairy tale rather than a grandiose picture. Though there are definitely themes of grandeur present here.
/ And it's essentially a rearrangement of a track from Days Of Heaven. Apparently composers steal from themselves quite frequently/unconsciously.
I don't know why the film scoring trend now is to keep the underscore unobtrusive and in the background and I must say that I would love to see this film with Ennio's "obtrusive" and "overpowering" score instead of Kamen's more subtle one.
I agree. I like the final score in context of the movie better. However this score is also quite wonderful, and in the end we have two scores for the price of one movie. Sounds like a good deal to me! :D
To be honest, I like the final soundtrack better. Especially for the story. This is one of the few instances I can think of where the producers tore something out of the movie at the last minute and it improved the film.
Aaah damn. I wish they hadn't rejected this song. I know alot of people say it wouldn't have fit, but I think it would fit very well. It has the sting of sorrow with the midevil whimsy, which I think is perfect, really. The whole world they make up for themselves is fantasy like.
Its beautiful but i honestly can't see where this kind of sound would fit anywhere in the movie. It seems to lack the depth and the intensity of the emotions and issues brought up. I guess it all depends on the effect the movie had on you.
i totally agree with u. its a great track, just as ennio morricone knows how to do but im listening to it and it doesnt sound very "what dreams may come" to me.
I've never felt this torn over which film score I would have preferred. Ennio Morricone's work here is awe-inspiring in its beauty. Michael Kamen's score was uplifting and extremely moving work. I love them both.
I love the music by Michael Kamen as well, but I'm also a fan of Ennio Morricone. I can imagine it and it goes bbeautifully with the movie, but it gives it a whole different atmosphere almost, in a good way.
Is there anyway I can hear this whole score?? I love this and would love to hear more. It's a shame that they got rid of Morricone's score, I'm sure it would've went beautifully with the film.
just got done watching this movie. i have never cried so much in my life

Deze muziek had nooit mogen worden afgekeurd.
Past zeer bij de film, mag raden wat de achtergrond is geweest.

Whoever decided to reject this needs to be punched in the face, several times.

@ChevalierAguila I wouldn't punch them, I would hug them. Ennio Morricone's score wasn't for this film.

@StraytRayzorSymphony It's not a shitflick you ass. The music is beautiful and all but it was not suited for this! I

I haven't seen the movie, but I'm already annoyed that the producers didn't take a risk to use a beautiful non-commercial theme like this.
I can imagine it generating weird emotions in a film. Great stuff

It sounds Lord of the Rings-ish and Harry Potter-ish. LOL.

To be honest, this soundtrack is much deeper than the film itself- perhaps that's why it was rejected.
tziviker 2 years ago 3
That's just your perception. I myself don't really think so.
I like the song, but I don't believe it is any more deeper than the film. D.R.
Hasfast 2 years ago 5
you are absolutely correct........when the movie was screen tested with this score it was indeed rejected for being "over-powering".............

brilliance of morricone !
