Just like what you said, it's really hard to removed the handle trying for the first time. Mine won't come off. May I ask how did you manage to take it off for the first time?
I think the top blunt bit on your sword mallet unscrews and you can use that and your mallet to remove the pins out. Also when removing the Tsuka(handle) I usually grip mine right at the bottom and hold the katana vertically on a slight angle having the blade facing away and then I give my wrist a firm tap and it should loosten the handle off. Just a little suggestion =)
mines brand new n its friggin hard to take aprt, i have one with 2 pegs i dnt have the proper equipment starting to think they super glued the pegs in lol
@RDPproject never had it apart before! i got the 2 pegs out. but after that im stuck. cant seem to slide the hndle of i managed to make the guard a tiny bit loose but thats as far as it got n i gave up i think, i might get a realy cheap one to practice on 1st lol but still a very handy vid thanks dude
You do know how to take the sword apart so that's good, but, if I could correct you on one thing: the way you used the mini hammer was a little off. Yes, it does have a tapered end, and I suppose that's what it could be used for, but if you take a closer look at the knob at the top of the hammer, the knob actually unscrews and has a tapered end in the shape of the mekugi (pins). That's where the mini hammer part comes into play. It's a lot easier than trying to force it through bare handed.
Thx mate. I dont normally use the small brass hammer.
I normally use another piece of bamboo that I have been using for a few years now. but not long befor filming this...i lost it somehow. Its in the house some where....but
Not a problem, and yes, lol it bothers me quite a bit when I lose something that makes my life easier. I'm glad I could help. Please keep making videos that relate to swords of any kind. Although outdated, they still hold great meaning to some in the world.
hello sir thanks for the video and ya you said my name right. thanks for all the info. only problem is the hilt is stuck on. i have tried a lot of things to try to get it off short of a vice clamp on it and i wont be doing that. some one else suggested a rubber mallet and a wooden block with very very soft taps i have yet to try that. thanks again for all the info and the video.
Yes...use a peice of soft wood and a rubber mallet and tap it gently on one side as close to the tang as possible. Then switch over to the other side and do the smae.
Just remember that it will also be required when you put it back on. So you want to get the Tsuka (handle) off, be careful and go slow. Be cautious and keep your eyes open for any pieces of wood that may fall out forn inside the handle. Some of the cheaper swords have extra bits inside. Hopefully yours doenst have that problem.
when you say use wool do you mean wrap the Tsuka in it then strike the tsuka its self or the hand guard? im a bit confused. and i know this is going to sound dumb but when and if i get it off im going to use a metal file on the tang to take a bit off just enough to get it to fit in with out me having to use a hammer to get it on or off.
NO! Dont do that. If you remove steel from the tang you could end up with it too lose. And once you remove steel....you cant put it back.
The tang is best if it fits tightly.
With regards to the ''wool' .......I said WOOD, not wool. You use a piece of wood and it is tapped against the Tsuba/guard. I will see if I can find it on the net somewhere. If i do, i'll send you a link.
ya i just bought a rubber mallet and i have some wood laying around and im goin to give it a shot tonight and if for some reason i cant get it off then oh well it was just not meant to be.
