  • Lidstrom was there for it all, the brawl with the Avs and cup in '97, the cup in '98, when it was placed in Konstantinov's lap, the cup in 2001 and 2008, and he's still here, whoopin ass in Detroit.

  • HAHAHAHA 2:20 as the puck jumps u can hear like this wierd sound xD haha killed me

  • music gets a bit annoying after the 5th repeat

  • Proud to have played in the same hockey team as him when I was a kid, Skogsbo SK <3

  • NHL Totals Games 1,524 Goals 260 Assists 869 Points 1,129 +/- +442

20 seasons as a Red wing and still going. Has the highest plus-minus rating in the NHL since 1991-92. 7 Norris Trophy. Respect!

  • @mucknfold

Of course he has such numbers because he played with the Detroit powerhouse. Of course he has better numbers than Pronger or Niedermayer. You put this guy on the Ducks, Devils, Blues or any other team and he is just an average defenseman nothing more. Not to take anything away from Nick but Chris and Scott were better in their primes.

  • Don't even kid yourself...Lidstrom is the best dman since Bobby Orr.Pronger and Niedermayer were great...but Lidstrom is on another level.Lidstrom would have been great on any team he played for.

  • @BENNYSIEGEL90 You can't possibly even say that Lidstrom would be average if he was on a different team. Lidstrom is Lidstrom I can't find a word to describe his perfection, there is no questioning his greatness, what your saying is like saying that Steve Yzerman would be an average player if he was on a different team which is impossible to say, Steve Yzerman was the team, and so is Lidstrom.

  • Crisp guy thinks liddy is bad wow why r u living if u think he is cheap and dirty. Liddy is the best d man ever.

  • Best Dman of all time hands down.... and im not even a wings fan

  • Wayne Gretzky on defense.

  • I know some fans gawk at Ovechkin's acceleration, Chara's shot or Crosby's top speed, but what really frightens me is Lidstrom's assasinesque precision

The man is everywhere he's supposed to be and always one step ahead of the competition, despite being 40+!!!

  • he is born in the same city as me <3

  • @xCRiSpINAtTux47x troll lmfao

  • 6-1

  • @Merk0 It seems like it's only you in Finland that cares. Nobody in Sweden takes it as serious as you do, because it was just WC. We had our B-Team. This is a Lidstrom movie, we don't want to hear your bullshit.

Finland will never develop a player such as Lidstrom. Because Sweden is better than you and will always be.

    Topic closed.

  • Damn he should continue more seasons. I know his prime time is over but he's still a great player with a scoring mind.

    Now let's hope!!!!!!

  • @harikGod Yeah, because he didn't really win the James Norris Memorial Trophy for 2011, no no. At the age of 40. He is still on the absolute absolute top, which he also shows this season. His prime time is not over, not at all.

  • 6 people doesn't like hockey! GO Lidas! Go Sweden!

  • 2:15 Dat Goal!

  • Felt the need to add this. Promising prospects who are already on their way to the top would serve themselves well if they stopped and took some time to study Nicklas way of carrying all that comes with being a superstar and yet remain as humble as humanly possible. If there was ever a player out there to model yourself after, this is him!

  • Lidas is without a doubt the biggest reason that I'm very proud of Swedens continued ability to represent the game at the very top level. Nick in particular not only because of his skills but the way he embodies every aspect of the greatest teamsport on the planet.

  • LETS GO SID!

  • If you dislike this I will beat the shit out of you

  • @goblew14 just did!

  • @Slufsbuk Why would you dislike the best defenseman since Bobby Orr?

  • the music played when Lindstrom was born.

  • @Dashooter911 Lidstrom! no N

  • @Dashooter911 I think this music has played constantly since he was born.

  • Lidstrom is gonna be like Gordie Howe, Retire at 52 years old.

  • Gives me Goosebumps he makes me proud to say i'm swedish :)

  • 1:27 - the sound of God conceiving Lidstrom

  • Nick Lidstrom will roundhouse kick Chuck Norris in the head if he spells or says Lidstrom like this -- Lindstrom

  • He could probably stay in the NHL another 10 seasons after a grease job, oil change and full tank of unleaded. Go Wings 2012 Stanley Cup Champs!!!

  • I love the Penguins, basically the Crosby generation. I love what Letang, Orpik and Gonchar have done, but I know that Nick Lidstrom is hands down the BEST defenseman. Love him and Yzerman. Always have a respect for players with immense talent. Let's go pens.

  • Best denfensman ever, mixed awesome offence with awesome defence.

    1:18 always makes me shudder

  • @pictorful and for sure he did win his 7th Norris:)

  • Lidstrom has announced he will stay with Detroit for one more season! LET'S GO WINGS!!!

  • @Schiidal Well im half finish and 2,5% rus and 47,5% Swede! XD

  • I remember when he scored 3-2 to Sweden in the Olympics 2006!!

I will probably never forget how much i screamed.. I'm happy he's swede!

  • @xrlmusic I remember it as if it was yesterday! I'm half finnish so it was much more than just a Olympic gold at stake in that match for me ;)

  • lidstrom > orr. orr would get raped in todays nhl.

  • If i had to pick one player out of all of them, he'd be my first pick.

  • i love you lidstrom!!!

  • Lidstrom, Sundin, Forsberg = Hail the great vikins of Sweden

  • @TheImamo93 murray?

  • Lidstrom is amazing, but Bobby Orr was quite simply a freak of nature.

  • He must play one more season, atleast!

  • Best Defensemen ever

  • sweden quality

  • im fucking proud of being a swede...sweden is and will forever be the greatest hockey nation

  • 1:18 was SICK

  • 4 people who dislikes this are jealous because they don't have a CLASSY captain like Lidstrom!

  • GO SWEDEN!!

  • vote for Lidstorm! at ultimateleader . nhl . com

    Spread the word!

  • Im sure he would produce 100 pnt seasons in bobby orrs time this guy is that good, but disrispect to the great bobby orr.

  • most respected player in nhl right there, and before him, stevie y

  • 1 potvin

    2 lidstrom

    3 Robinson

    4 bourque

    5 Coffey

  • Can't say he is the best ever because the game changed so much but he is the best of his era, no doubt about that. Better than Bourque and Leetch.

  • @vene777 Better than Bourqe ? Do you know hockey ? Ray has more Goals , more assists , more points. All time and every season !!! He has twice the shots on net and a higher plus/minus.

    Stop embarrassing yourself.

  • @47tooter to be honest i dont think you know hockey

  • @jwb864 Been following it for 33 years , 8 years before you were thought of !

  • @47tooter just because you fgollow sumthing doesnt mean you know shit aboout it.. its clear you are wrong from the responses i see.

  • why does he hate grier so much

  • In 8-10 years or so, remember a defenceman called simon sandström. Im pretty sure he will come to the NHL

  • ozzzy ozzyy!!! :D

  • i love you nicklas lidstrom!! your the best deffensman EEVVVAAA

  • K lidstrom has 6 Norris trophies, conne smythes, and Stanley cups. He was named the best European player ever, and is considered the second best dman ever, behind Bobby Orr. I mean really, he IS the best dman ever. This year tsn also named him the "the player to never retire", so...

  • Best defenceman ever?

  • True genious. Nuff' said.

  • Europe is swedish and niklas is swedish - perfect combo :)

  • hooly shit! 1:18 was crazy!

  • bobby vs Nicklas?

  • @nocommentbob lidstrom ony cuz ths era of hockey is proably harder an faster

  • sweds are the best

  • 2:18 dangle then slapshot pass

  • sweden avesta/skogsbo

  • sweden avesta/skosbo

  • great vid. ive watched nhl hockey since i was 6 years old, and if theres one thing that separates nik from the rest is just how effortless he made the game look. i dont think ive ever seen a player make it look as easy as lidstomr has. its been a true pleasure to watch and i hope this isnt the last year.

  • More Tributes To Nick!

  • im surprised they didnt show his goal in the 97 cup finals in game 4 oh well i guess he has many more highlight reel plays than just that goal, but one of my favourite players ever since i was about 8 years old

  • @MrRoflcopter00005 or the puk he saved frm going in the net against colorado, maybe if he did not do tht thy never wnn the series hahaha js all the things he has don but at lst we rermeber right

  • the save at 1:35 is RIDICULOUS!

  • zetterberg > forsberg. Sundin > forsberg. sundin > zetterberg. sorry but just because sundin didn't win cups doesn't mean he isn't the best. sundin carried toronto on his back for 10 years. he was their only good player. forsberg and zetterberg played on stack teams. but lidstrom is still god of sweden.

  • He is the best swedish hockey player ever. He is the perfect captain, the perfect defender, the perfect defender. No hockey player in Sweden makes me as proud to be swedish as Lidström. Forsberg may be the most special player, but he wasn't better at his position than Lidström. Lidström is a living legend.

  • There are always comments about who is the best player in the NHL. The bias is always toward the leading scorer. With the exception of Bobby Orr, it has always been a forward. All the buzz is about Crosby, Ovechkin, Sedin and Stamkos. Not to take away from these great players, but what about a defensemen like Lidstrom. I saw him not only score and assist on brilliant plays but also save goals from being scored. Why isn't that part of the equation?

  • perfect hockey player

  • This video was made in 07, and Nick has kept rolling and rolling and rolling....

  • who's gonna be captain when lidstrom is gone? pretty big shoes to fill first yzerman then lidstrom...

  • @rolvaag0

  • @rolvaag0 Datsyuk or Zetterberg? I'd think Zetterberg because Datsyuk might be too softspoken, even though he can most absolutely lead with his presence.

  • @rohbit i thought the same thing. zetterberg is my guess.

  • My favorite defenceman of all time!

  • well I fuckin hate the wings but I have to admit Lidstrom is the man.

  • He's hockey IQ is as good as i gets! Best D-Men i have ever seen. He makes me proud to be a swede!

  • my inspiration as soon as I saw my first NHL match :') Lidström I , I mean WE love you!

  • Hal of Fam Retired Jersey you nam it, he is the greatest of al tim in my boooks

  • Some people said he was done after last season. 15 points in 13 games and a consistent game in the beginning of this one proved them wrong.

  • One of the smartest hockey players to ever play. The ways he plays the angle, sees the ice and passes are nothing short of remarkable. HOF on first ballot.

  • best defender ever

  • me from sweden never had the pleasure to experience orr playing. orr played before i was born and nhl games wasnt broadcast on swedish television either. but thanks to internet and modern technology i did my research on him. he changed the game. and so i hold orr as the 2nd best d-man after lidstrom because after all im swedish and i grow up with niklas lidström playing for the swedish national team.

  • 4 Colorado fans disliked this video...

  • He is the slapshot king. Best defenseman since Orr

  • Some people saying lidstrom wasnt really that special? Well the most respected sports paper, Sports Illustrated announced him as the best player in NHL this decade, kinda proves it... it was judged by 120 sport journalists all over the world and he got above 75% of the votes.

  • Awesome video. IMO Nick Lidstrom is the best defensemen of all time. He is the reason I'm a diehard Wing fan. He inspired me to play defense. My first hockey jersey was his #5 which I got way back in 1995 and I still wear it with pride and its still my favorite jersey I have. He truly is a great player and a total class act. Thank you Nick Lidstrom for all the memories and hopefully a for a few more. Your #5 will proudly, and rightfully so, hang from the rafters at the Joe someday.

  • One of the best ever, and a true gentleman to boot.

  • There's going to be a huge void to fill when he retires :-(

  • @seanjohnman187 That's right. The Wings could probably slide out of the playoff picture when he retires.

  • fucking dangles

  • 11 time all star, 6 norris trophies, a conn smythe, a gold medal and 4 stanley cup championships, nuff said

  • Best defensmen of the past 25 years for sure.

  • lidstrom has amazing defensive skills that many new nhl defensemens dont have.

  • one of my alltime favorite players. He is the guy that always does his job and always play fair. He almost never missed a game in his 18 season long Career. One of the alltime best players.

  • my favorite player

  • 4 Stanley cups, conn smythe, 6 times Norris trophy winner, Olympic gold, World cup of hockey bronze, World championship gold, silver and bronze, 1046 points, +432 in career, 11-time NHL All-Star, 9 of them first All-Star Team, First European-born defenceman to reach 1000 points, and FIRST EUROPEAN TO LEAD THE TEAM TO THE STNLEY CUP AS A CAPTAIN.

NHL Hall of fame for sure

  • this man's resume is crazzy

  • Lidstrom is the best player of all time no doubt. And if his name was Dave Johnson and he was from Alberta, the hockey elites in the canadian and american media would agree as well.

  • @sd921 Sorry to comment on a post made so long ago, but Orr, Yzerman, Howe? Lidstrom is one of the best ever, but to say the best ever, no. Orr was better than him at D. 8 Norris trophies in a row compared to Lidstroms 6 total, I think that says it all.

  • @moonspellfan666 You are wrong they played in 2 completeley different eras, ORR was obviously ahead of his time there is no question but Lidstrom has played with the best of the best of the best and he IS the greatest of all time to many people including me should be 5 time cup champion olympic and world champion cant put one over the other but LIdstrom is a LEGEND in his own right 6 vs 8 norris doesnt mean anything when your talking about the 2 best ever

  • @jaipaul68 You are right. it is a completely different game. Now days you can barely check someone without getting a suspension unless you are Bettmans fuck puppet Crosby. You cannot compare them side to side but Orr, like you said was so far ahead of his time, and yes Lids is one of the best to ever lace up skates, but if you compare their dominance from their era Orr is several steps ahead. and its not 6 Norris vs 8, its 6 vs 8 Norris trophies in 8 strait years.

  • @sd921 so true

  • The best!!

  • lidstrom is the best swede

  • what team was that at 2:50?

  • even if you dont like the wings u gotta respect this man he is a legend

  • Hats off to Niklas. The epitomy of professionalism and competitiveness at his 40. Happy birthday, Nick!

  • i'm his cousin, but we've never met

  • I'm an Edmonton Oilers fan, so there really is no bias here. I've seen both Bourque and Lidstrom in their prime - and it's a no-brainer to me - Lidstrom is the better player. He's consistent, he's effortless, and he's a consummate professional. The guy's barely been injured over the course of his career - he's everything you want in a #1 defenseman. I guarantee you that if he played in the same eras as Orr/Bourque - he'd confirm that he is no doubt the greatest defenseman to ever play the game.

  • Swedish Viking Power <3

  • @apaneddis

    Indeed, SWEDEN POWER :D

  • Probably the best outlet D-man ever

  • this is the best video of Niklas Lidstöm, when i look at it i get something we call in sweden fo fårhud^^

  • Haha va? Gåshud heter det, inte fårhud.

  • @Siviz4 han kanske menade förhud?

  • @ybber1

    hahaha... antagligen XD

  • from 1:29-1:36, damn thats some good passing!!!

  • how many years has he played for red wings?

  • Comment removed

  • i am 22 and he has been on the red wings for that whole time

  • since 1991

  • Over 20

  • the rely swedish one

  • 2:20 is so sick, dangled, then tees it up haha.

  • so sick

  • I love how every one talks about the drop off in Nick's play. There is no drop off in his play. When players were injured Nick didn't have a lot of talent to work with. His linemates were being changed everyday and it's hard to find chemistry like that. He's a +20 and has 32 points now. he has 19 in is last 17 games. 5 goals after going 42 without one. He's still in my opinion the best defenseman to ever play the game.

  • when you talk about hockey its easy to be proud when you are from sweden. We got some awesome players like Lidström, Forsberg, Sundin, Zetterberk, Kronwall, Holmström, Renberg and i can keep on counting for ages =)

  • @sebbe2k tönt

  • new generations always come in to replace the old =(, still he kicks all their asses =)

  • best player ever in nhl!!!

  • I'm stunned that Lidstrom has hit the slump; he seemed like he could go on forever.

I was so rooting for him to keep playing on his top game, until he broke Bobby Orr's Norris Trophy record, and so prove to us that an even better blueliner exists.

Lidstrom will go down as probably the best Swede blueliner (if not the best blueliner period) in history. But can Victor Hedman match Lidstrom's accomplishment?

  • I'm not sure you wanna call it a slump just yet. He's heading for one of his worst seasons in points, but I think that has alot to do with all the injuries Detroit has had to deal with, especially on scoring forwards like Zetterberg and Franzen. Despite this his +/- is good.

He is arguably the smartest defensive player of all time and with his style of playing the game I bet he could keep playing for another five years if he has the motivation to do so.

  • the whole Detroit team hit a slump this year not just Lidstrom they had injuries to key players as they get healthy his game will improve also its a team sport. i dont believe a better defenseman exists everyone talks about Orr and rightfully so but that was a different NHL in todays game u have to be so much better in the all around game. Victor Hedman can be a good player but i dont think he can match Lidstrom we have to wait and see but i dont see it happening

  • i literally still think we will win the cup this season i love being the underdog think about it when we get kronwall and the mule back WHO is gonna stop us? they only thing im worried about is this whole ozzy situation LIKE every other season lol

  • So much pressure is put on Hedman, it's ridiculous, everyone is saying he is the next Lidstrom, time will tell if he will prove that.

  • ahaha if that not pressure i dont kno what is

  • lidas

  • And he plays defence. He is better ten most forwards on offence.

Nick Lidstrom Is And Has Been The Best Player For The Last Decade.

    Let's Go Lidstrom!

  • this is one of the best vids on youtube

  • your one of the best vids on youtube

  • I LOVE YOU NICKLAS #5 DETROIT WHAT

  • I hope lidstrom never retire, for me he is the greatest d ever, they will 309% retire his jersey in detroit, i hope they fucking retire his jersey in the entire NHL.

    Best swedes ever:

    1. Nick Lidstrom

    2. Peter Forsberg

    3. Mats Sundin

    4. Börje Salming

  • LIDSTRÖM!!! whit Ö

  • Proud to be a Detroit Fan and live in Detroit

  • Comment removed

  • The best d man yet

  • It's hard to replace a Captain like Yzerman... unless you have a player just as great like Lidstrom

  • @vene777 Now its gonna be hard to replace a Captain like Lidstrom

  • @Maspi he is not going anywhere

  • probably the best defensman actually!

    GO WINGS!

  • This guy is purely incredible, he is among the elite in the history of this league and this sport.

I bought an authentic Lidstrom for only 55 bucks on Ebay and believe me whenever I wear it and all my friends have Crosby and Ovechkin jerseys I say.

"You wanna see real greatness?" I dont have to turn around when they see the C on the Wings jersey they know exactly who they're dealin with.

Lidstrom is the Best There Is The Best There Was and The Best There Ever Will Be!

  • man i love how hes got such a bomb from the point and how he just sneaks in to the front of the net AND how he jumps in on the rush

thats what you call an offensive defenseman

  • I really can't choose from Forsberg, Lidström and Sundin. They are different and achieved different things. Sundin is the all time best according to points, and has been a captain for the mecka of hockey. I mean 20-25 in points of all time. Lidström is the best D-man of his era. Cups. Norris Trophy winner. Forsberg has won the scoring title, MVP, Cups, WC-golds and Olympic golds, twice. Skill-wise, he's the best player ever from Sweden

  • morons.

Lidstrom is the greatest defenseman ever

  • Lidstrom is better than Orr was, the league wasn't as competitive then as it is nowadays with talent being pulled in as widely and frequently from around the world. He sure is special and I doubt we will see anything like him for a few decades.
