Logitech - What the hell do they know about acoustics? Look up W Folded Horn and prepare for serious bass, frequency extension and improved sensitivity. Most people making subwoofers don't even know what one is - The only time you should notice it is when its switched off. This is a 'bass bin' and a completely different creature. Also read up on chokes and the number of windings you need else you'll be dumping tons of mid and treble into your driver that it can't reproduce except in heat.
How can the tuning for this be right? These need to be some powerful ass subs if they need a port that big... What were you planning on putting in there? Orion HCCA's???
Because of the time it will take for the sound wave to travel all around and come back to the front, it will be out of phase at a certain frequency. Similar to what happens to the Scoop bins.
Dude I got a downfiring ported box in my 98 chevy under my backseat.. and it sounds so shity on low notes.. and I can't figure out why other then haveing to flex back up and thats missin with it.. Any ideas?
great for home theatre or in cinema applications... but i'd really like to know how it would fair in the large scale concert sounds, or even medium venue system applications... my idea of low end transducers is to push air 80hz and below into the listening area... to create the "thud feeling" in your chest/stomach/trouser legs. lol
It looks like a Transmission Line.. But there might be a problem with the amount of time it will take for the sound waves to exit the box from the rear or the speakers.
@z030n3r theoretically it could, if the port distance was too long, endup cancelling out some of the higher low frequencies... but in practice it may just be the ducks guts...
the "bass ports" can both make your low end sound good or kill it. the port/s have to be make to the correct length and placed in the correct place. alot of peaple "get lucky" doing this but there is alot of science behind it.
you saying sealed is louder? i don't think so no one in comps are using sealed! sealed is about SQ not SPL and is not louder, it takes more power to make them go to full excursion thou
@ManRossDamn tell that to rythmik audio, svsound, or elemental designs whose ported AND sealed subs hit relatively the same depth at reference levels on almost ALL of their models. seald or ported it doesnt matter. it all depends on how well it was engineered.
Hrm, interesting but a "properly" designed vented enclosure shouldn't need to be fancy in anyway. The key, I have found is to keep things as simple as possible, straight and long. This design seems to be a TL - type of enclosure which is COMPLEX to simulate; trust me :p.
actually youd be surprised by the amount of designing that goes into logitech subs they do use tangbands:P
and as far as tuning goes tat tuning frequency is only good for slightchanges in response but for hometheatre use you tune lower becasue movies and such get much lower then music usually does the point of the lower tuning is to lower the amount of control the speaker has at the said frequency
@dark666apoc Yeah logitech really puts thought into thier designs. esp the computer sound systems ! Cant say Ive came across a home theater system by them yet tho

Measure the length of one "tube". Let's see if it is a TL type first. simple wave eq'n (v (sound) = wavelength*frequency). We have v (assumed 341m/s, wavelength*4 (resonance in open tube), and frequency is unknown.
Rearrange -> freq = lengthoftube*4/speed of sound.
Plug that in and let us know ;). Perhaps I can make a video discussing Transmission Line Subwoofer design basics.
I have my box in my truck for 2 12's tuned to 23hz and i can be heard from quite the distance. But 20hz is the limit to human ears, you wouldnt hear anything just feel everything shaking.
does that shit make a difference ? lol

@zyon4lyfe1 yeah it does you cant just throw a speaker in box and expect it to slap.

Alot of home theater systems have a down firing sub. They sound good too.

So do the vents on the box make the sound better?
MrStuntmonkey 2 years ago
yea ... in a weird way but yes ... it does help ur bass
MrSexyboom 2 years ago
It helps amplify low frequencies due to the design of the waveguide.... i might try that with my bose woofers, see what i can get

ya it makes it able to hit lower frequencies..but if you like bass that its hard you wouldnt like a vented box

@miketeecvx EHHHHHH! Wrong.
Ported sounds better, if they know how to make it right.

@ManRossDamn ANY ported box i've ever heard sounds....sloppy...or laggy if you will. i think that sealed boxes sound a lot more crisp.
scbjgs 6 months ago
@scbjgs Wrong.
Only a box without proper sealing along with 90 degree corners and without supports sound sloppy.
Besides, ANY shitty ass sealed box will NOT hit lower, nor louder, nor crisper, nor cleaner. Just a fact for you :)
ManRossDamn 6 months ago
@ManRossDamn calm down dude. i'm just voicing my OPINION, as are you. i personally prefer sealed boxes. you prefer ported. big deal.

@dark666apoc or because too much bass sounds like shit with movies. lower tuning gives it better sound quality and limits the output of the speaker

@dark666apoc dude what the fak can i do to get lower bass form my z2300? :D
design a new box perhaps?

urs is not like that though if its logitech cuz this has a wave guide and for both subwoofers so yea its a totally different design

srry dude im not technical enough lol to know about that

the design of it for 6.5 subs using both and facing the floor its probably tuned to like 23 or 20 hz thats what id guess it would be
