  • Sir Paul MC Cartney????? WTF???? I thought he was of Irish descent!!!

  • @14brosnan He is from Irish descent, but how come could he sing "Give Ireland back to the Irish" and accept the fecking English monarchy's Sir title? You cannot serve two lords.

  • Comment removed

  • una vez lei, no se que tan cierto sea, que, con esta cancion john lennon fue investigado por supuestamente financiar al I.R.A. (Ejercito republicano irlandes), si alguien tiene informacion al respecto me podria decir por favor

  • A witch hunt, driven by American politics, led a "lunatic" to end the life of one of the worlds most beautiful people

  • thank god for this version

  • The great potato famine is the greatest lie in history. It was a holocaust. The english stole all the food from the Irish. They had the blight too. They refused to help. Lets not get into the ethnic cleansing of Ireland by Olivier Cromwell either. Also, the Irish were the first slaves in America and were treated far worse than the black slaves.

  • @rugbymom75 the sad thing is noone remembers that the queen tried to help ireland

  • @rugbymom75

Not to bright on American History are ya.

  • @dmskier WTF? i am very well informed on the history of my country and how the Irish were treated in this country.

  • @rugbymom75

Irish treated far worse than black slaves? You are obviously oblivious to history. I guess the 14th Amendment accidentally left out the Irish and the 13th must have been referring to the enslaved Irish in America working the plantations.

What black person of any sort could come to America and then start a brigade in the US Army to fight in the Civil War like Thomas Meagher (Tricolor Flag of Ireland) and fight for his country Ireland/America and become a general.

  • @rugbymom75

My own Irish ancestors who did very well for themselves in this country owned slaves. What Irish ever said he was a slave to a black man?

  • @dmskier The Irish were slaves in America during the late 1600 early 1700's. Over a million Irish were enslaved between the Colonies and the West Indies by the British. They were called the White 'n -word". After slavery came endentured servitude which is also slavery. Help Wanted No Irish Need Apply signs were found in the USA till 1941. I suggest you google the The forgotten slave trade.

  • @rugbymom75

No doubt the Irish were second class early in this country's history and before on their own plantations. But they were not treated far worse than blacks. Millions of africans were taken from their home and were enslaves in a far greater region than Irish. Many more people available along the eastern african coast than the small island of Ireland. No blacks need apply signs were here much more recent than '41.

  • @rugbymom75

Finally - someone who knows what they're talking about!

In 1655, Cromwell, through his alliance with the Jewish bankers of Amsterdam, initiated the resettlement of the Jews in England after Charles kicked them out for usury etc.

  • @rugbymom75 600,000 irish slaves in total! ...dont forget all celtic peoples of great britain were forced anglicised..the welsh had their kids whipped for speaking welsh and forced to learn the "virtues" of english imperialism

  • @rugbymom75 so sad, but so true. my famine Irish lived in Hell's Kitchen in NYC. a wonder they survived.

  • @rugbymom75 The Blight was everywhere, it only caused a famine in Ireland because the Irish peasantry had been reduced to subsistance farming on tiny plots that could realistically only sustain potato faming. This was a result of the penal laws, enacted by the Protestant elite against the catholics. Food exports to Scotland and England ie private enterpirse continued, the starving peasants didnt have money to buy it before the famine left alone during. Nobody 'English or otherwise stole food.

  • @rugbymom75 Re the Irish 'Slaves' certainly a hugh amount of Irish Catholics were forcibly transported mostly to the west Indies in the 17th century, maybe a 100,000. Their position was not nearly as dire as the black slaves bought from Africa though, they were treated as indentured servitude, and in fact in places like Montserrat (the only place outside Ireland to celebrate St patricks Day as a national holiday) they ended up more or less running the place in positions of power by sheer number.

  • @rugbymom75 Re the English 'refused to help' untrue. Throught England and Scotland nearly a million irish were taken in as refugees and much charity set up for them. The U.K government itself averted disaster in the first year of the famine by stockpiling Indian Maize. Unfortunately a change in government 1846 bought in a less proactive administration, though Trevelyn in charge of famine relief (an anti irish bigot) gave express order that not a single life should be lost. This of course failed.

  • If you are an American and justify Britain's actions, how do you feel about the American revolution? The British did not need to cover an ocean to shit on the Irish. The term 'the sun never sets on the British empire', had positive connotation only in England. Everyone else saw it as a plight. Think 'manifest destiny' and American Indians.

  • do you understand that john lennon was an anarchist and was one of the few people who knew that the famine was a genocide ...read mein kumf, hitler says he got all his ideas for the jewish holocaust from english murdering irish

Gracias y saludos!!

  • you, cannot erase irishness, it is catholisisom, universal...lennon only speaks the truth in this song...

  • My god I love the Irish, I think they're the most beautiful nation in the world . They gave so much beauty to the world.

  • @THEIRISHVL97DIMIR well said Cheers u keep it up for the IRISH ll

  • Ah much better with chun li singing along :)

  • See utube vid. Beatles arrive in ireland. The year was1965. When asked by frank hall how many of you is irish. The replyed WE ALL ARE. Nuff said.

  • We miss you John!!!

  • not very funny. the whole world loves the beatles. how many people hear the irish songs from paul and john. oh! yes you know why.

  • John Lennon would've been assassinated just the same had he been deported back to the UK. Too many as sholes in power hated him for singing about truth no matter where he went.

  • not good without Yokos vocal and lyrics...plus the chords are different for her part with gives the song less repetition...why in hell would you make this version anyway? This would piss John off if alive...Yoko was and is great...she slways stood by John....what people who hate Yoko don;t seem to realize is that John loved Yoko. So If you loved John like I did. You had to love Yoko too. Because she was the other half of the sky for John. If you hated yoko,,,you truly did not love John.

  • @ZAPDUNGAA I understand that John loved Yoko and i respect that even though I am not a Yoko fan (i don't hate her I'm just not a fan) but i don't like her vocals much and actually prefer the songs she didnt sing in.

  • @ZAPDUNGAA eh maybe people just dont like yoko cos she cant sing. I dont mind her at all as long as she doesnt attempt to sing or scream or whatever

  • God bless the IRA

  • History is never dead.

  • If this was edited correctly ie in studio it would be a great lennon single, it is much better without the Yoko part (on this occasion).

  • excellent

  • Theastal ár lá

  • r.i.p mark chapman

  • @kiwitobin you're a fucking cunt and I hope someone shoots one of your loved ones so you may know what it is like...asshole!

  • WHAT A SONG THANKS

  • Yoko was great in this song. But what ever

  • @SunnyLovetts i agree, Yoko did petty good on the song

    but John did even better

  • he never forgot his irish background, good on him

  • Yoko sneaks in there at the end mate : ) but much better with the solo vocal alright... great job!!

  • Sounds better without Yoko who can't sing her way out of a paper bag.

  • the title of the vid!!! without yoko LOL

  • Thank you! She is gone!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This sounds like it was either actually written by Woody Guthrie or influenced by him and Dylan, maybe. Did John actually write this? Love it - absolutely.

  • much better

  • What a tune. And ,so much better without Yoko.

  • will man ever get along, not this side of Armageddon.

  • BLESS US ALL !!!

  • buena toma de esta cancion.. y sin duda se escucha mejor sin yoko.

  • Thank The Lord Ireland was presented Michael Collins

  • John Lennon Forever! Damn right it's the Luck of the Irish! All for one and one for Ireland!

  • This is the first time I've heard this without Yoko wrecking it. Good Job.

  • It's STOOOOOPID to cut Yoko out of this song because of your hangups about her. Granted, it's your right to do so if you want, but it's my right to think this video is STOOOOPID. And I DO think this video is STOOOOPID, VERY STOOOPID. Then thumbs DOWN.

  • @bckm54 it's not the hangups with her that annoyed us, it's the fact that she sounded terrible in it. Also, I'm going to have to take a moment to ridicule you for calling the video stupid, whilst misspelling the word stupid over and over. Writing in capital letters does not mask your lack of coherent grammar. There's also no h in 10. altogether I'd say this is been a very unsuccessful comment on your part. feel free to retort, but try and do it correctly.

  • @eimead YouTube apparently has a bug that seems to be showing my comments in response to your post as "error, try again". I looked it up on "help" and it said that it was a "bug" (we'll see if THIS comment posts). I don't have the time or the inclination to keep trying to post the response (maybe later), so I'll just have to disagree with you and save the details for some other time.

  • @bckm54 YOU'RE RIGHT! NOTE THIS: who have cut out the Yoko's parts

of this song, can not divide John from Yoko at the end of the track, because

they sing in chorus! LOVE EVER WIN.. (at the end!) They can never divide nobody! Bye bye!

  • @STRAWBERRYSTUDIO2 I don't think anyone's interested in dividing Yoko from John in theory or when they were together. She was John's choice, and we loved John. However - dividing the two of them in song is... ya.. about right... sorry.

  • @Catlovertea4 In our life we have "right" to do almost what we want, this i know, but not every single things we do is really a right thing for everybody. If we talking of hearts to divide, i think it's not our right and matter, and you're at one with me with this. If we talking about Art, like this song, i think that in spite of our "right", this is not on approval of the John Lennon spirit and lifestyle, because the song was made with Yoko. This is what i mean. Bye!

  • very clever editing

  • With Yoko or without Yoko, it's still a beautiful song. Just because she's not singing in it doesn't defeat the purpose of the song. I don't think John really cared about how it sounded or if it was great or not. The whole point is to get the message across.

Besides, this song is John's. Not Yoko's. let it be as that.

  • not a yoko fan at all but, this is freekin' terrible, she's half of the song. (and the full in NYC album too) you're missing the full effect. you can't undo what's already done.

  • better without all the bitch

  • I prefer hearing Yoko on this (my opinion) - her voice really works well with the song.

  • lennon was a genious an a proud irish man aswell, god bless him

  • @colemanno1 john lennon was english....

  • @ranbrent 2nd generation irish man = irish man

  • @colemanno1 born in england = english

but if his dad was irish or whatever then he's half irish..

  • @ranbrent his blood is 100 percent irish his grandparents were drove away from ireland and went to england

  • @ranbrent he was 2nd generation so there fore hes irish, jus leave itat that yeah

  • @colemanno1 lmao what you on about?

    but i love you <3

  • @colemanno1 john lennon was english

  • @LeeEvansSucks He was of Irish descent which I think is what he's getting at.

  • @LeeEvansSucks yes, but he and Paul where of Irish dissent

  • @colemanno1 lennon was a genious but he was not irish. Like all the other beatles he was british but him and Paul McCartney supported the irish and their freedom greatly.

  • @Pearse628 Yes, and Liverpool has (traditionally) a high proportion of Irish immigrants. Also Lennon is an Irish name - Anglicized form of the Irish surname Ó Leannáin, which means "descendent of Leannán". The name Leannán means "lover" in Gaelic.

  • @MrEclecticity So lennon means lover, eh? Well that explaines a lot.

  • @MrEclecticity liverpool was originally founded by the welsh, lancashire used to have welsh speakers until 1300-1400s...just look at the place bryn near wigan..bryn is hill in welsh

  • @3tangle3 Therefore?

  • @colemanno1 john was english from liverpool uj dont know nothing bout him

  • @LeeEvansSucks John Lennon is a backstabbing hippie.

  • @LeeEvansSucks lennon is an irish name, nationality dosen't mean shit.

there are irish men in england, canada, america, mexico, austrailia etc

  • @colemanno1 Lol stfu John was a proud englishman....I am Irish descent but dont think for one minute we aint proud of England cuz all englishmen are

  • @XxpauldadudexX what the are you on about?

  • @colemanno1 Well do you really think anyone gives a shit that a Irish dude loves da Irish...we dont give a shit man so stfu...I love UK and USA but I dont say it on a Lennon vid to get ppl to kiss my arse

  • The version with Yoko is better. The song was written by John with Yoko in mind, so her voice is very relevant. I think you totally misunderstand John, he loved her, because they complemented each other, and Yoko is a great artist and performer on her own right. They are not clones, they are different, learn to appreciate beauty with its differences.

  • Your right Yoko does add to the song , I was with them in Dec. 1971 , we went over this song in the pad on Bank Street and I was with them on stage at The Benifit For John Sinclair the next night.

  • Session musician for Lennon?

  • if only the world can see things this way...

  • I still hear yoko.

  • its funny how there are so many great pop stars that have irish heritage yet people born in this country never seem to do much internationally at all, except u2 i guess.

  • in fairness there is only 4 million people in the country. i think lizzy, van, sinead, u2 etc are not doin too badly

  • van morrison is from the north which is another country, sinead was never really that good, she just had a great voice, thin lizzy never made it all that big in the rest of the world (not argueing their greatness though), and i mentioned u2. There are plenty of great musicians in ireland, how did you leave rory gallagher off your list?, but they never seem to make it big internationally.

  • not a different country in my book.. rory is an amazing musician but if you're going to deride thin lizzy cause they never made it out of europe then why mention him at all? i will again mention the population being that of londons big toe. or, the same as berlin's.. you could say. or kentucky.

  • also, my bloody valentine are pretty damn rad. they invented a style of music. and one of those bands britain tries to claim cause they made their music in london.

  • @EducationEducacion "If the North is another country then the British were persecuting their own citizens."

yeah so, lots of country's persecute their own citizens

"The reason Irish people don't make it in Ireland is because most talented people run away as soon they realize that the world is not such backward place."

i dont understand what your trying to say here

  • @t00117598 quick question, if the north is "another country", why are people from the north eligible for Irish citizenship and passports? french people aren't eligible for german passports and vice-versa. it's not as black and white as that.

  • @eimead yes it is, we may have a special relationship with the north, as many other countries have with each other for various reasons but they have a different government, a different currency, the majority of them have a different heritage, they have different laws and different constitutional rights... they are their own country.

  • @t00117598 the heritage is more or less 50-50 at the minute... i'm from the south but studied in the north so have been living up here for the last 5 years, as far as different laws go,off licences up there can still stay open until 11 and they have a years restricted driving after passing their driving test. other than that, you see as many gaa jerseys, and in fact i spoke more Irish up there than I have anywhere in the south(except my home of donegal). they're more Irish than most southerners

  • @eimead there are more protestants than catholics in the north, not by much but there are more. the laws are different, just because there not vastly different does not matter they are different. if we change the laws on abortion or drugs or whatever it has no effect on the north whatsoever and vice versa. i don't see why your talking about culture, lots of french people play rugby does that make them english?

"they're more Irish than most southerners"

what does that even mean? define irish?

  • @t00117598 I mean citizens of Ireland who practice the language, cling to the history and keep the traditions alive. there's more to being Irish than being born here. this country's becoming another footnote of capitalist globalisation, another string of starbucks and burger kings. it's pathetic, and you've some nerve to tell someone from the north that they're not Irish. it's embarrassing.

  • @eimead i never said they were not irish i simply asked you to define what you meant by irish, culture can mean different things to different people. i personally believe speaking irish doesn't make you any more irish than speaking latin. culture is not something that is easily defined and it has very little to do with what country your from. just because we have the same or similar cultures does not mean we are from the same country. there are many americans who speak irish too!

  • @t00117598 i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. i think the main difference here is that i have strong nationalist leanings and in spite of the government difference, i don't feel in any way shape or form that i'm in a different country when i cross the border, and northern Irish nationalists don't like being called "northern Irish" because it feels like a charity compromise to shut them up. the money's a different colour, that's about it as far as i'm concerned.

  • @eimead Cop on lads!

  • @t00117598 Cop on lads!

  • @macionractaigh ?????

  • @macionractaigh some context would be nice

  • @t00117598 Glen Hansard won an oscar last year. Highest paid female musician in the world? Enya(surprising but true). we hold our own on the international scene.

  • @eimead just because enya is big does not mean she is good. and what do you mean highest paid? her sales aren't as good as some other female musicans and her tours are not as big as some others, do you mean she gets the highest royalty percentage or something? musicians don't get salary's you know. also look at the history of best song winners at the oscar's, that award is worthless.

  • lennon was smoking weed all night long with yoko

  • gracias por quitar a yoko de esa cancion!!!!

ella no tiene nada por que cantarla

  • sweet video!

  • righ on
