Yes, this is Stan Freberg's version of "The Banana Boat Song." The one you are thinking of is a cartoon called "Calypso Singer" - if anyone has it, I'd just love to see it! It was the entertainment at my third birthday party!

That's where it was aired, man. Stan Freberg recorded it. It's too loud man. There is a 1960's animated version, part of which was on Youtube. It's gone now though. Too sad man.

This song my father tells me is from the 50's (this spoof version). The cartoon was made in the 60's I think.. The cartoon came out later and was made by someone else for this song. I also remember seeing the cartoon on the children's show "The Great Space Coaster" back in the 80's..
