  • the ouroboros theory is very interesting

  • wowo this guy is not very up on whats going on.. the sun is not 6 billion years old.. nor wil it be here billions of years ahead..

when ever you see a darwinist giving a so called sientiific speech realize he has a politicle agenda..

he says aliens..lol they dont use God but say ET as science

    ..ok you get my point

  • @frank0067 No "we" don't. Just because you're an American (you can wonder how I figured that one out) with too much unjustified self-esteem doesn't mean that your -or your small town congregation's- assertion that the Universe is 5000 years old, is on par with Science. Owning a keyboard doesn't give you an equal vote to people like this scientist.

  • @frank0067 you are so dumb. he was hypothesizing that if there were a group of aliens watching our planet this is what it would have looked like. in no way was he saying that that has been the case. it's called a demonstration you idiot. like, did you seriously not get that part? haha wow.

  • @andyt338 No.. he believes aliens...

  • @frank0067 I hope you realize that most intelligent people who read your comment are laughing at you.

  • HOLD on one fat minute....

"The patterns of vegetation changed and this signalled the start of agriculture" - absolute BOLLOCKS!!!

WE, stupid, venal, overfed, needy titchy Hooman Beens discovered, fire, fur, and the wheel. WE - the GREEDY, decided to start formalising agricultural practices, which led to a fundamental change in patterns of agriculture as we increasingly ignored the "important" while working out how to MAKE MONEY out of the "useful".

  • why doesn't this video have 150 million views? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS WORLD?!!

  • @SteveDutchy Give them a little more time!!! Gotta hope for the best!

  • Who finances TED ?

  • scientists have been wrong before and will be again.. the sun could go super nova tomorrow for all we know.. its amazing to think how long it actually active for and how much fuel that must take!

  • @weeleon81 glad there's someone who knows more than scientists.

  • honestly we need more people like him. Lol doesn't he look like he is an immortal vampire though?

  • guy creeps me the fuck out... think im not going to give him a chance. my intuitions usualy right

  • "our pale blue dot in the cosmos" i miss sagan

  • @me835

I agree, this guy is making me disagree.....

  • @me835 I'm here!

  • guy looks spooky

  • He should have given Oppenheimer his due, because Oppenheimer was also against proliferation and fought against more and bigger bombs.

  • We are still the begining....

  • wow this was interesting. but too short

  • Such a great mind in such a frail body.

  • Mr. Burns!

  • all those loosers who are proud not to be a god believer, your eyes are closed, even after listening to this, god is everything, not a man with a long beard, god is love !

  • @Re9syr This is a video of science, take your fairy tales elsewhere. Also, it's spelled losers.

  • @AfroThunder915 well fuck you then looser, i can say whatever i want here

  • @Re9syr Loser*

  • @AfroThunder915

I don't know.....getting fucked would certainly make one looser.

  • general grevious

  • click on video then press left key and then down key to play snake.

  • what he's saying around the 6 minute mark, that's string theory right?

  • @ItsKnucklez he's thinking of the multi universe theory. Many universes out there with a multitude of differing sets of values that correspond to the laws in which matter is governed. So there would be way more life-prohibiting examples than life-permitting. Its not really "string-theory"

= The essential idea behind string theory is this: all of the different 'fundamental ' particles of the Standard Model are really just different manifestations of one basic object: a string.

  • @hexusziggurat Ah I see, so is what he is talking about M theory?

  • @ItsKnucklez now you're going a bit too far from my basic understanding of things. heheh. String theory is more about the particles & how those particles are made up & react/governed by the laws...whereas the multiverse theory is more about "supposing" theres a multitude of differing "existences" where theres a multitude of differing law-combinations. (the so call 20 callibrations, or more that are the fine tuning of the laws of the universe we live in).

  • @hexusziggurat The way he explained it, and demonstrated it with the two sheets of paper looks alot like something I saw a documentary about where they were explaining M theory (or membrane theory). It was about 2 "membranes" of matter and energy in space, and the 2 are constantly expanding, and shrinking, and when they shrink enough they collide and cause a big bang. But it was also tied into string theory some how.

  • @ItsKnucklez ""M-Theory is the unifying theory of superstrings that explained multiple superstring theories to actually be different ways of looking at the same theory. In that sense, M-Theory is “the one theory that binds them all,” and did so by revealing an 11th dimension to the beautifully elegant theory of superstrings.""

i got that online from a site that tried to explain it "basically".

  • American bible belt haha!

  • He forgot about geologists, we are rather more interested in whats going on below the Earth's surface.

  • See God was this short guy. He had his eye on a big Amazon woman. So when they hooked up, for him it was a BigBang.

  • st a matter of thinking before acting. Some people will troll, yes, but the great thing about that is that there is an easy way to solve that problem; it is a simple matter of ignoring the person. But don't assume it's a troll unless it's just typed out something completely ridiculous. Progression is what we want folks, not regression, not stanch statements that become irrelevant to the original point. =)

  • that is the case, then basically the problem lies within ill assumptions, since that is all we can make. It is human nature, though, to expect the worse when there isn't anything but the statement itself to examine. If we don't agree with it, then attack! But if we constrain ourselves from our instinct, and act predisposed towards the notion of revealing intentions, then we could be rid of the argument and more towards the growing! This is a problem in the internet community, and really, it's ju

  • e a narrow point of view, which largely defeats the purpose of debating and discussion. Those activities are for the purpose of progression, not regression. Unfortunately, when reading text, the assumption that is made is not off of intent (because the inflection and intonation isn't there!), it is made off of assumption alone. The assumption is made off of stereotypical viewpoints or narrow viewpoints. (that's just my speculation; I'm probably wrong and there is a better explanation)

    But if

  • I think a really big problem here with the people "arguing" constantly when discussing religion and faith is that there is a lack of inflection. Intent when debating is subconsciously identified by registering the intonation of someone's voice while they are trying to prove a point, revealing the emotion from the speaker. The thing is, people are immediately going to attack a radical (who would usually have a shrill attitude) because it can be determined right off the bat whether he/she will hav

  • can pls one of the 41 people that dont like this tell me why?

    sound is good

    video is good

is it becouse of what he says? its his own opinion he just tells people what he thinks there is no problem whit that or is it?

  • 6:04 i have been saying we are not the only universe! it makes sense that what we grasp is still incomplete

  • I like this Intro more than the newer one.

  • 04:38 OMG ZOMBIE

  • You know, you could create and write your own religion now. Like the Bible, Quran and all. Then after like 500 years, some narrow thinker might find it and spread it and it would be another religion on its own!

  • @Jigiligy Like Pastafarein! or however you spell it, the belief of the giant spaghetti monster/god! There's an entire website!

  • @Jigiligy I dont know about Bible, but Quran pretty much spread within decades of its 'authorship' and spread very fast indeed around the earth in the starting years. Just to point it out

  • @Jigiligy If you rewind a bit to the time when those things got spread, life was pretty tough, starvation and violence were alot more common. People went to huge amounts of effort to spread various religions around the world, to think they would do it lightly, like they found some book they thought was nice, shows just how out of touch with history modern children are. If you are out of touch with them, and don't understand them, how can you judge them?

  • @Jigiligy dont think ill be around long enough for that :p

  • @Jigiligy Sathya Sai Baba or possibly David Koresh might be next.

  • @Jigiligy

How do you think Scientology started? :)

  • I applauded after this talk, very wise man.

  • @Danbo342 Have fun with that. Believing in God is as credible as believing in Paul Bunyan, it's just all a matter of popularity and how you were raised (sometimes). My dad was a Catholic but I'm now an observer and skeptic ;)

  • I'm not about to argue about religion here but must say one thing I am truly grateful for in being raised in a religious family. It tought me to treat others as I want to be treated and not to judge others. It tought me to see things through others eyes and put myself in their shoes. Being nice to others is so much easier and more pleasant than hating I think. So regardless of whether or not God exists to me isn't an issue. I'm just glad to live my life with joy and happiness and rather love.

  • @Danbo342 And do you think it was the religeousness of your family that was reason you were raised that way? Or do you think it was that the fact that you family was made of good people?

  • @Argcz

What part of my statement below could possibly be wrong or hurtful to anyone? I grew up in a very bad area and I am telling you my own experience and that is that without religion I know I would have taken many easier wrongs over harder rights. I already said, it was right "For me", and I am grateful. That isn't to say that overall I think religion makes good people. I know many atheists that have high morals. Why attack anothers beliefs to justify anothers? What's the point in that?

  • @Danbo342 It couldn't. Sorry if it "sounded" like i was trying to be an asshole or something. I wasn't. It's just that people say that "they were raised in religious family and are nice". I just think that they would be good people regardless and they should give more credit to themselves rather then to the religion. But as an atheist i probably can't comprehend difference between "being good person coz of faith" and "just being good person". Anyway, i didn't mean to offend you. Sorry if i did

  • @Argcz

You didn't offend me. That was why I took the time to answer as best as I could in two posts. I would need much more space to give a more thorough explanation but do understand where you're coming from. I guess there are a lot of things in life that we may need to experience 1st hand to fully understand but as for me, I am a believer in both my lord, and humanity. And both, separately as well.

  • @Argcz

Also, to even attempt to answer such a question about my family in 500 or less is impossible. I do know/remember that there were many times my father stayed away from illegal activity based solely on his faith. He would have done anything for his family, as would I. I cannot give you an effective answer on youtube. If you really want to know, are doing a paper, etc,,, pm me or we can link up on ventrilo, but if you're just trying to debunk something then please choose someone else for it

  • @stefanuk23 Terribly sorry. Meant to vote that down. My mistake.

  • very boring, dry speech

  • @hhhhdd4 start with spongebob... then work your way up ;)

  • The intro......'nuff said.

  • @stefanuk23 notice how you're commenting on HIS video, not the other way around...

  • 04:08 "We still don't know what banged and why it banged"

I loved this one, best thing I ever heard about the BigBang XD

  • This guy makes me think that the end of the world may not be so bad, because there are so many possibilities for other worlds and existences.

  • All here try to battle with their opinions.

  • Yay for Physics!

  • I'm pretty sure we will just destroy ourselves in the next two hundred years.

  • @HyperGolem Could be less, I believe. He mentions the sudden spike of carbon dioxide rising in the last 50 years as well as other environmental changes. If I had to take a guess, I'd say it would be between the next 30 to 70 years.

  • If you can't appreciate this ,am afraid you do not have a heart and feelings to emulate great work. This is fantastic!!

  • boring , god is logic

  • @paginipro you're just...awful

  • @cityfan22 you're wrong ,I'm right check out my discovery theoreticalphysics.webs.com

  • @paginipro im not visiting your useless website because you are a waste of matter

  • @cityfan22 you don't know shit about god or logic for that matter

  • @paginipro I know enough about god to have chosen not to believe in him, and I know a great deal about logic - proven by the fact that I do not advocate the belief in any religion.

  • @cityfan22 ffing hell who said god has a dick, don't think of god of some gender think of god as logic and you'll find I'm right about it,I don't give a shit about religions ,god is the important thing here the rest are movies

  • @paginipro Although the sentence you've constructed makes very little sense, I will do my best to somehow translate it into proper english. "who said god has a dick" - The Bible states that man is the physical representation of God on earth and therefore most devout christians believe he does have these characteristics. Explain what you mean by "God is logic". Blindly believing in an imaginary God is incredibly contradictory to the notion of possessing Logic.

  • @cityfan22

Read about scientific miracle in Qur'an , and you will see God .

  • @r0rozx You are what we call in western society as being "past the point of no return" - by this point you are so deluded that there is no use talking to you. whatever i say, no matter how well i refute your points, will be wrong in your eyes. you have the "im right, you're wrong" mentality and there is simply no changing that. its unfortunate, really.

  • @cityfan22 Have you ever read about Scientific miracles in Qur'an

    like expanding universe

    or the big bang

or the relation between the age of universe and earth and much more .

Have you ever read Qur'an from cover to cover ?>>it's a small book by the way .

If no then you should do it .

If you 're not going to read it then there is nothing we can talk about here . As You refuse to even start helping yourself .

If you want me to tell you few miracles , I can help about that , Soo ?

  • @r0rozx hence my point. i will not waste my time reading the koran. islam is a religion that punishes apostasy with death. this is not the kind of faith anyone should possess blind belief for.

  • @cityfan22

If you commit a national betrayal , you will be killed . That's why you should hate and abandon your country !! it's nonsense !! isn't it ? This is what you're doin .

If you are a wise man , before criticizing any Islamic teaching , you should first make sure if this is from God or not . If it's from God then you MUST accept what ever he says but if it's not from God then you can refuse it .

You will say " I don't believe in God "

I tell you " Read Qur'an and you will change "

  • @r0rozx

Can you explain How prophet Mohammed from 1400 years could tell us about

1- the whole matter was condensed and then exploded to form the universe (big bang)

2- age of the earth is one third the age of the universe

    3- expanding of the cosmos

4- iron was sent down and wasn't created inside earth

Quran has been challenging all creatures just to write one chapter in Arabic with the same eloquence and style No one could do it till now .

Th irony is that many chapters are only 3 verses !!

  • @r0rozx As you see>>

One simple challenge! JUST Write only three verses in Arabic like Qur'an and then you have destroyed Islam

Although it's very simple challenge but no one at all succeeded and those who tried, failed and converted to Islam like Ibn- al moqufaa , the great arab writer(like Shakespeare in english)

May be you don't understand this as you don't know Arabic language but I know it and I understand it and non Muslim Arabs understand , Have you ever seen a book with such challenge ?

  • @r0rozx because the Quran is extremely vague.

  • @ToxxinProductions

Did you read the Qur'an yourself ?

  • @r0rozx Yes I have. And yes there are things that talk about evolution, the big bang, etc etc, but its extremely vague.

  • @ToxxinProductions

Okay , may be it's vague for you as you don't know Arabic language or because you have an old translation like shaker or Yousifali. THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THOSE WHO NEVER LEARNED ARABIC .

what is the translation you have ?

I can help you translating every single Arabic word and explaining unclear verses .

  • @r0rozx I'll get into this more with you when I'm at my other house(which is on weekends) till schools over, then I can actually tell you which copy I have c:

  • @ToxxinProductions

Okay , I'll wait for you and I am glad to help you any time you want :)

  • @r0rozx i am finished with this futile argument. have fun living life in a fairy tale. peace out.

  • @cityfan22

At least I've done my job and delivered the message I have to you and the rest is up to you

Don't wast your life buddy . I'm not the enemy , you are the worst enemy of yourself

One simple advice I have to you .

Read>> think>> act . If you refuse to start you will never reach your destination .

Whenever you need a friend ,Just remember me

I don't care about your beliefs , I just deliver the message

REMEMBER THAT ISLAM IS THE FASTEST SPREADING RELIGION SPECIALLY AMONG SCIENTISTS

    Peace

  • @r0rozx Apparently Allah doesn't teach you that "SPECIALLY" isn't a word. It's funny. To become a scientist, you must go through years of school. This involves taking English classes, where they teach you how to spell.

    Just saying.

  • @ZiggyOsiris

You've just made a fool of your self dude !!

Do you have a dictionary ?!

Apparently you have never used it !!

    LOOOL

(by the way LOOOL isn't a word < Hahaha)

  • @r0rozx Excuse me. I was commenting late at night. What I meant to say is that the word "specially" does not fit in that context. What you should have said was especially.

  • @ZiggyOsiris

I know that "especially" is better here in the context but you know It's not a formal conversion :D

I'm glad to discuss your point of view any time , but before we start talking , Please read the conversion between me and cityfan22 . It won't take a minute of your time .

By the way >>> I DO NOT ( ATTACK ) ANYONE'S POINT OF VIEW , I JUST DISCUSS IT :)

    Peace :)

  • @r0rozx That said, you win this round, so now I'll walk away with my tail between my legs, and next time I'll attack your viewpoint rather than your grammar as I should have done anyway.

    All the best.

  • @cityfan22 A disbelief in religion and God, is a "belief" in itself. Have you heard of the saying, "People that think they're bloody smart, aren't so bloody smart!"

  • @cityfan22 did u try HINDUISM its good

  • @cityfan22 Hear hear!! I am an atheist but we will always have and accept and appreciate people of faith like you, not theists and organised religion. I even believe in a "god" of sorts but I hate to use the word god because it usually implies:

    - Personal

    - Omnipotent

    - Concious

    - Creator

  • @cityfan22 Unanswerable questions cannot by definition have an definite answer one way or the other. It's like dividing infinity by itself.

  • @cityfan22 logic has nothing to do in the understanding of the one being.

religion does not know the one being, god does not belong to religion.

  • what is logic? an optimized organization and firing of neurons in your head. And with this limited toolset, you say you KNOW God. funny.

  • @cityfan22 God by definition has been proven by physics.

  • @HawaiiSurf10 give me evidence of your claim.

  • @HawaiiSurf10 Not "God" himself, but there is an energy inside our body that has existed since the beginning of time.. That is true and a lot of people would consider that our "soul" but I do not rely on ANY source aside from myself.

  • @j14mp

I doubt you would have that idea if it weren't a source aside from yourself. You're expressing yourself in a language provided to you by society.

It's easy to say that we all have some intangible substance inside us, it is an entirely different matter to show its existence either by showing its physical presence as matter, or its effect as energy; because although consciousness is an odd concept, the energy flows keeping a brain alive have long since been known to be entirely corporeal.

  • @cityfan22 Hahahaha, you just said that your detailed understanding of logic was proven by you not advocating belief in religion, oh the irony. :D

I'm sure you'll see it after re-reading, if you are in fact familiar with logic. :D

  • @cityfan22 you sir, are going to hell. dont reply to me just wait till you die and please remember me. im not hating or anything just saying.

  • @twinsownzme YOU'RE LIVING IN A FAIRY TALE

  • @paginipro Very debatable. The most intelligent people on this planet all agree that there is no supreme being. The only things that have kept my faith alive are: there is no explanation for the beginning of the universe, scientists can not make life in a lab, and everyday miracles.

  • @CROtCHINATOR

Read about scientific miracle in Qur'an , and you will see God .

You will also find the scientific explanations to universe like expanding and the BIG BANG .

Just use Google and If you need help about that , contact me .

  • His physics is outdated.

It is now understood that the red shift in light spectrum does not translate into movement and therefore the dark matter created to explain this movement is now recognized as a fantasy used by science to account for a non-existent problem.

  • lol gastronomically

  • I'm sick of all this talk about Gawd. If hes real: Hes a douche. There's no hope for humanity because he's going to eventually kill everyone and make us kiss his ass in heaven, OR burn us forever because we didn't want to pucker up. If he's not real then humanity will just move forward as we have and will continue to do.

  • @SoullessConviction

    What a stupid post.

  • and tell me there is no god!

  • Good lecture, and a very likeable guy.

  • 1.Who actually disliked this? I mean really?

    2. Idk why, but all I could think of was lunar colonisation while watching this.

  • The top is God.

  • @billy42994 hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! good one! lol

  • @billy42994 Why God, and not the League of Pink Panted Pixies?

  • @Pomme843 fuck pixies, its unicorns

  • @UbermenschBOB A metaphor for chaos. I'm more in favor of Ontology. I could discuss all day but i don't even think i could exist

  • @UbermenschBOB Anarchy is Pure democracy...it's wording has just been twisted abit

  • Brilliant man.

  • Good talk to help expand thinking.

  • Mr. Rees; you are very close to the reality of it all. Congratulations on your presentation!

  • The unification of matter comes by way of the atom's EMERs (Electro Magnetic Emitted Radiation), and the gravitational field component of a gravitational force field loop which coalesces and unifies matter towards a concentric point within the planet from whence it originates.I own 40 oil painting created by me that help to define the evolution of all that exists, including the species. I could send you 30 copies if you're interested.

These will help you understand my theory. Copyright material

  • The X-gravity field factor of a gravitational force field also helps in establishing orbital corridors for neighboring planets.

The universe is a finite plane that prior to the beginning of the inception of matter existed as a barrier which separated the two escential sub energies that make up the spectrum of all of the frequencies which weave to create matter at a quantum level developing a mass having an average diameter of 9 quintillionths of one mm. Molecules relate to atomic EMERS.

  • There are many misconceptions about the universe, gravity, intrinsic lattices of matter and the tantalizing big bang.

Let me start with the big bang. There was no bang, perhaps just a minute zoom sound if any, for in order that there may be a bang compression of expansion must be present, and absolute space is inhibitted of all scentials.

Gravity is an inherent factor of extreme heat, and X-gravity (my theory) is operational only in extreme cold. X-gravity repels other worlds.

  • The atomic theory as we know it should be abolished for its abstruceness and fantastic improvable qualities. Protons, neutrons, electrons, positrons, neutrinos, quark, leptons, byrons, mesons, pions, kaons, gluons; REALY!!!

Divide planets earth's diameter (8000 mls) by its age 4.5 billion years and work it down to the second; what you get is the average evolutionary time period of an intrinsic lattice weave of energy known as the atom. I believe that matter can be produced synthetically.

  • @jqs1943 WTF?? are you serious? why does the evolution have to be linear? earth's diameter/age=average evolutionary time of atom??????? huh?

matter produced synthetically, humm.. from what? if energy, where did this energy come from? and why isn't it taken in account in your phenomenal equation? if from other matter, same question.

  • The big bang did not produce a bang. No containement to expansion, no explotion.

A sun is a world's core in the making. That core goes through metamorphic processes that takes as much and sometimes more than one billion years. An atom is formed within a cycle of evolution that can take less or more than a one second time period and its average diameter is 90 trillionths of one millimeter. this number is real as I extrapolated it from the ratio of planet earth ant its life to date.

  • 5:07 "The microworld of the quantum world is understood..." - WTF is he smoking?

  • @trakkaton If you were really listening: what he meant was that quantum mechanics describe how things are regulated for infinitely small particles.

then he talks about relativity and gravity that rule for bigger scales (than those of the particles), and the need of a unified theory, that (obviously) unifies the relativity and quantum theory.

After rereading this... yep he was smoking.

  • Why would anyone name this video earth in it's final century ? - when Sir Rees talks about Earth ending in six billion years from now, and the human being at the very beginning of spreading out across the universe.

  • Yes the idea of a huge bang creating the all doesn't seem 100 % buyable to be

  • I hope all of those who came up with lame comments die of cancer asap.motherfuckers.

  • @hejhejhejhej15 Suicidal much?

  • @hejhejhejhej15 Your user name sucks. No offense.

  • @hejhejhejhej15 oddly enough most of them do

  • He looks somehow like an old, crooked Christian Bale

  • @kaexo So he does....

  • How dull - he should be a girl giving guided tours of Mt Palomar or something. I felt as if I were in grade school, now class, all about logged data and NO intelligent overviews allowed. "You'll get NO pudding, unless ye eat ye BEANS ... !!!!".

  • In all fairness, no reflection on this lecture- it was great, I watched the whole thing about twice, but TED is essentially the worst aspects of scientific elitism. This man, who has obviously studied astrophysics for most of his life and has contributed to the public understanding in his book- "Our Final Hour"-the reaction to it was nothing short of appauling, as was this lecture. he talks about the dangers of scientific militarisation, TED does'nt like that, the weak applause says so.

  • "Geometric mean of the mass of a proton and the mass of (the, a...?) sun ~ 50kg".

Seems a bit of wizardry here. Good talk though

  • amazing talk.

  • nice hairdo.

  • This guy looks like an alien

  • This speech is great, but as an American, I feel like I need to defend against some of the disparaging remarks Sir Martin Reese made about the religiosity of some Americans. I don't understand why it is necessary, and it is somewhat ironic for him to allude to the ignorance of people in the American bible belt while showing a picture of the Earth from the moon taken by American astronauts (some were evangelical Christians), and lauding a prominent American citizen - Einstein.

  • "i'd like to leave with a vinyet - as it were"

    what's a vinyet?

  • @rich2600 The word is a "borrowed" word in English, look at Vignette on Wikipedia or a dictionary (as I can't post a link).

  • @greyisboring Thanks man!

  • @DruidVorse idiot
