I was just thinking...........Andy's drag queen ontourage, spending every living moment trying to be a women, must have been sent into a state of major depression when Edie floated into their space.
@Dealit707 Edie biographer Melissa Painter said she discovered an audio tape of Andy Warhol talking about it when she went through his archives for research on Girl On Fire.

@CaeRae Hi! i became a huge edie fan a few years ago but i still dont know everything. by "the factory" do you mean factory girl? the movie with sienna miller? much of that was embellished (such as the romance with bob dylan) but i would suggest Ciao Manhattan, her last film before she died, there are also many books on her, Edie:American Girl is a good one. and yes, the bandage is from the fire. hope i helped!
@CaeRae Edie is a good book to read.Lots of photos and interviews with people that knew her.I think Jean Stein is the author. Her cat, Smoke died in one fire.I believe she burned 2 places.Smoke was an offspring of Dylan's cat.In my opinion the film didnt cover enough. It should have been made into a mini series for tv and covered her life from beginning to end.
Edie Sedgwick, the it girl. She had an interesting, fascinating, unique quality. Not only was she beautiful, but she had such an alluring way of speaking and made a big impression on everyone that she met - an instant success. For years now, countless young people have discovered Edie Sedgwick and felt a strangely compelling, deeply emotional, connection to her. Edie's creation of her persona, of her image, was her art form. Gone, but never forgotten.
sometimes she seems more keira, but some she seems more sienna... i don't know, keira would make a good job but sienna was incredible! even the voice, the laugh, the way she moves, walk and talk... i loved the movie
She wasn't beautiful but she was, she didn't do anything, but she did. She was lucky, but she was unfortunate. She made 'great' friends, but she had no 'good' friends. Most of all, she was, and is, and always will be, an enigma.
@1bush053 please read (& understand) before you judge. With respect, why do you judge assuming I don't know what I'm talking about? That would be your first huge mistake ...
No Sienna looked like Edie and did a great job. I don't remember the first time I heard of Edie Sedgwick but I've known of Andy Warhol and his art for a long time. And just recently after hearing about the Factory Girl movie and learning more about Andy Warhol in an Art History class I took and doing a paper on pop art for the class, I've reconnected to Andy, Edie and that whole 60s/70s vibe.
Some of the things I see suggest that there are people who look at this story like it's a game. Check out the Siege of the Warwick video, with Edie talking about her delirium and convulsions, and the mental hospital where she saw the rats and ate nothing but bread and potatoes.
Somebody asked, Is there a cure, and I'll just say there's been great progress in treatments for depression and mental illness - drug and non-drug treatments. In her day, an anti-psychotic drug made people into zombies. The ones now work much better and let people have regular jobs. The descriptions suggest that she had bipolar disorder, which is usually treated by a combination of drugs, often a type made originally for epilepsy.
The close-up, picture with the chain in her mouth is sickening. I don't know if the photographer meant to be cruel, but it seems like he did all he could to humiliate her.
For some strange reason, when I think of music suitable for remembering edie.. my mind just doesnt go to anything this slow. But, nonetheless, lovely video.

sienna was perfect to play edie in 'factory girl'.. keira is good actress , but has no similarity to sedgwick.. sienna did great job, she reflected edie.
According to the movie" Factory Girl" Edie Sedwick was alreaday a disturbed individual when she met Andy Warhold's world. Her father has commited incest with her since she was 8 years old. Why point the finger at Andy Warhold? He probably gave her the only years of sanity in her distraught life.

"iam always at a lost for words when i see an angel of joy, beauty and short commings that this world lost."
Hahaha. She was a nice-looking socialite, and probably a laugh, but at the end of the day, she was basically a smackhead who Warhol happened to like. She's hardly Ghandi.
anyone else think keira knightley looks almost identical to edie sedgwick? seriously there bodies and faces are the same. if you dont think so then go find a picture of keira. they honest to god look like twins.
This is the second video about Edie that I have seen in a few short minutes that has a Sarah Mclachlan song accompanying it. I suppose that there is a connection. They were both rich girls from privileged backgrounds, the difference being that Edie's parent's didn't approve of her career and Sarah's bought hers.
I see that while enjoying the video, some people don't feel the song fits, and that's fine. I'm not a big fan of the genre, but when it came to making this video, I couldn't help feeling like a sentamentilst about her. I also feel that the lyrics describe so much about Edie, and how it felt to be an angel without wings. Thanks to those enjoyed.
NO one can gleam reality from art & Edie has been cannonized into something, not sure what. I'm sure she had all the frailties & weaknesses of most of us. She was also a natural, a great model, she had presence, the camera loved her. She took a ride on the world, hey, we all probably woulda done the same....to a greater or lesser extent. RIP Edie.
Great tribute and wonderful images. I recently saw the bio-pic Factory Girl and found it pretty enjoyable...Guy Pearce and Sienna Miller were great. Did not see how Warhol was responsible for her sad downfall.
Hey thanks to the jerk that had 2 mention she had sex w/ men 4 drugs.Yeah, she did.She lived her life in pain, inheireted mental illness and escaped it anyway she knew how. I give her kudos 4 lasting as long as she did and adding some beauty 2 the worls along the way. I hope she's at peace. You are such a jerk, whoever you are. You must have no idea what it's like to be in that much constant pain.
i actually really love edie myself and am not disputing she was in pain. its just annoying when people look at everything through rose tinted glasses making out she was perfect. i have read her book and was just giving an opposing opinion.
That was an opposing opinion?Pointing out her lowest moment? No one here has suggested she was perfect. For whatever reason she was an iconic figure and like most icons, she paid the ultimate price.Depression & mental illness are the worst form of cruelty & you have to go through it to understand the things it makes you do. Again, I hope she's at peace.
yeah, I know what you mean,I´ve been through two severe depressions, and nobody seemed to understand, everyone argued that it was because I had everything one could have and also because I´ve been always living on easy street,as you well mention,it´s hard to understad.Regards
living on easy street has nothing to do with depression. i never lived on easy street. things were always hard for me growing up, and edie had a terrible childhood. her father was a pig, her brothers killed themselves, she had those tendencies. rich or poor pain comes in all forms. i know from very personal experience. Depression is hell...rich or poor.
Yeah I Know, that´s why I hated it when people around me who didn´t know me well put the blame on that, and yes,it´s hell.Anyways hope you´re doing well now
Great images of Edie, but the Sarah McLaughlin song doesn't do it for me. Too melancholy, and yes even cliche' as it's a song too often used at funerals.
its sad, tragic how she ended, but maybe it was meant to be.all stars burn out.thats what happened to her. inevitable fate.she had too much fun partyin, being a celeb.didnt know her limitations like alotta peeps specially beautiful free-spirited women like her.
Nico don´t liked her, I heard, so why should rukusgta take her voice for Edie? One picture remembers me to the scene with the old woman from poland in "Inland Empire" and suddenly the whole film seems to fit.
Sorry to respond with a negative but really the music is bad and not suited AT ALL. I agree Nico or the VU, Morrissey, anything more time warped would go better and make these great images sooooooooooo much easier to watch. I muted it as it was. Sorry is because I don't like being negative so regard it as constructive criticism. Cheers.
Edie was extremely talented and intelligent, and came from a severely fucked-up family. She died a long time ago, and all this rabid cult adoration and picking over every detail of her sad life is just creepy in my opinion!
nice vid, but the music is awful! "Chelsea girls" by Nico or actually any early Nico song would be perfect, or some VU. (All tomorrows parties" maybe?).
(^continued)her life was full of sex, drugs, and abuse. she had a comet like rise and fall to stardum during her time with warhol which spinned out of control. so for my report she wasnt the best person to choose because she wasnt like oprah or george washington. edie was an icon during the chaotic revolutionary changes during the 1960s. so go take a chill pill
Stein's bio is just a string of events. To understand Edie's impact you'd have to know more about the Factory than is written in that book. You'd also have to watch her films (not Factory Girl).
It sounds like it was a junior high or high school assignment.
Too bad - a well-written thesis about the pervasive cultural impact of a Warhol Superstar burnout anorexic could have been a fascinating read, esp. amidst the essays on inventors and politicians.
calm down everyone. i read the biography titled "edie" by jean stein. i had to do a paper on an american who had a positive impact. i chose her because she looked interesting and there was a movie coming out about her. her life was really interesting and nothing at all like paris's, but for my paper i really could not write anything postive about her impact besides changing fashion. ----> continues below
Thats why so many Edie fans were angry at silly Sienna making a film about her. She was beauiful and talented. I dont know what book you read. Dont even compare her to Paris Hilton.
i read a book on her and the factory was such a short time in her life. only about 2 years, and she's not as amazing at she seems. seriously i dont even no why they wrote a book on her or made a movie
beccccccccc how can you say that?? yes the factory was a short period in her life but it affected her right up until the day she died! and as for the fact she isnt amazing i cant see why you said that her life was full of drama a heart break and endless parties and arguements i dont know why people haven't written more books on her she was a born a start and was the first IT girl no one comes more flaboient and origional as she did anymore its all full of wannabe's edie was the origional!
She wasn't the first It girl. Baby Jane Holzer was Warhol's first superstar and the It girl term comes from It (1927) with Clara Bow so Edie had her predecessors.
She is one of a kind and you get that from watching any of her films, not just flipping through her fashion spreads. Sorry flixy, just had to point out that Edie's fascinating because of who she was - not her life drama but the rare "it" factor that she has.
Actually, if you go back to the beginning, it was Naomi Levine who was Warhol's first female superstar from his '64 film, "Tarzan and Jane Regained... Sort of". It was John Giorno, star of "Sleep", who is generally agreed upon to be the first superstar (male or female).
Let me add that it was, indeed, Baby Jane Holzer who was the first "it girl" of The Silver Factory and of Warhol's oeuvre, but to be the reigning "it girl" of The Factory and to be a superstar are hardly the same thing.

She didn't. She started going to the Factory with Chuck Wein & became a Warhol Superstar.
She met Dylan later on, signed with his manager, and left the Factory. When she found out Dylan had married Sarah Lownds in secret, she took off.
You can argue that Dylan got a couple of great songs off her (allegedly) and left her in the dust the same way Warhol (allegedly) did.

i believe she should have played Edie in facotry girl instead of sienna miller

Proper typical American drivel.
"iam always at a lost for words when i see an angel of joy, beauty and short commings that this world lost."
Hahaha. She was a nice-looking socialite, and probably a laugh, but at the end of the day, she was basically a smackhead who Warhol happened to like. She's hardly Ghandi.
wrightylew 4 years ago
nope, Edie wasn't Gandhi, (but I'll bet she knew how to spell his name correctly).

anyone else think keira knightley looks almost identical to edie sedgwick? seriously there bodies and faces are the same. if you dont think so then go find a picture of keira. they honest to god look like twins.

This is the second video about Edie that I have seen in a few short minutes that has a Sarah Mclachlan song accompanying it. I suppose that there is a connection. They were both rich girls from privileged backgrounds, the difference being that Edie's parent's didn't approve of her career and Sarah's bought hers.
thegirl44 4 years ago

FaeRae79 4 years ago 4
i actually really love edie myself and am not disputing she was in pain. its just annoying when people look at everything through rose tinted glasses making out she was perfect. i have read her book and was just giving an opposing opinion.
claradylan43 4 years ago
That was an opposing opinion?Pointing out her lowest moment? No one here has suggested she was perfect. For whatever reason she was an iconic figure and like most icons, she paid the ultimate price.Depression & mental illness are the worst form of cruelty & you have to go through it to understand the things it makes you do. Again, I hope she's at peace.
FaeRae79 4 years ago
yeah, I know what you mean,I´ve been through two severe depressions, and nobody seemed to understand, everyone argued that it was because I had everything one could have and also because I´ve been always living on easy street,as you well mention,it´s hard to understad.Regards
soulscootie 3 years ago
living on easy street has nothing to do with depression. i never lived on easy street. things were always hard for me growing up, and edie had a terrible childhood. her father was a pig, her brothers killed themselves, she had those tendencies. rich or poor pain comes in all forms. i know from very personal experience. Depression is hell...rich or poor.
ehouston 3 years ago
Yeah I Know, that´s why I hated it when people around me who didn´t know me well put the blame on that, and yes,it´s hell.Anyways hope you´re doing well now

Great images of Edie, but the Sarah McLaughlin song doesn't do it for me. Too melancholy, and yes even cliche' as it's a song too often used at funerals.

Nico don´t liked her, I heard, so why should rukusgta take her voice for Edie? One picture remembers me to the scene with the old woman from poland in "Inland Empire" and suddenly the whole film seems to fit.

It's like she was disintergrating right before our eyes...

Cheers.

I find this post mortem idolisation a little creepy too.
A beautiful screwed up woman meeting the wrong people, doing the wrong things 'coz it's better than the pain you inherit.Creepy, that's modern life

Wonderful images, but the music has nothing to do with Edie. Sleep well sweet princess, ciao darling.
ladystardust60 4 years ago
Edie was extremely talented and intelligent, and came from a severely fucked-up family. She died a long time ago, and all this rabid cult adoration and picking over every detail of her sad life is just creepy in my opinion!
BigDeanoSyd 4 years ago
nice vid, but the music is awful! "Chelsea girls" by Nico or actually any early Nico song would be perfect, or some VU. (All tomorrows parties" maybe?).
prettyinthenightime 4 years ago
her expressions are so pure, like when she's shocked, when she laughs and smiles...if only she'd given herself 50 more years.
tismurdis 4 years ago
(^continued)her life was full of sex, drugs, and abuse. she had a comet like rise and fall to stardum during her time with warhol which spinned out of control. so for my report she wasnt the best person to choose because she wasnt like oprah or george washington. edie was an icon during the chaotic revolutionary changes during the 1960s. so go take a chill pill
beccccccccc 4 years ago
Stein's bio is just a string of events. To understand Edie's impact you'd have to know more about the Factory than is written in that book. You'd also have to watch her films (not Factory Girl).
It sounds like it was a junior high or high school assignment.
Too bad - a well-written thesis about the pervasive cultural impact of a Warhol Superstar burnout anorexic could have been a fascinating read, esp. amidst the essays on inventors and politicians.
xxxafterglow 4 years ago 2
calm down everyone. i read the biography titled "edie" by jean stein. i had to do a paper on an american who had a positive impact. i chose her because she looked interesting and there was a movie coming out about her. her life was really interesting and nothing at all like paris's, but for my paper i really could not write anything postive about her impact besides changing fashion. ----> continues below

oh wow, i admire her... and her beauty. rest in PEACE edie doll.
thanks for this video!

Thats why so many Edie fans were angry at silly Sienna making a film about her. She was beauiful and talented. I dont know what book you read. Dont even compare her to Paris Hilton.

i read a book on her and the factory was such a short time in her life. only about 2 years, and she's not as amazing at she seems. seriously i dont even no why they wrote a book on her or made a movie
beccccccccc 5 years ago
beccccccccc how can you say that?? yes the factory was a short period in her life but it affected her right up until the day she died! and as for the fact she isnt amazing i cant see why you said that her life was full of drama a heart break and endless parties and arguements i dont know why people haven't written more books on her she was a born a start and was the first IT girl no one comes more flaboient and origional as she did anymore its all full of wannabe's edie was the origional!
flixy03 4 years ago
She wasn't the first It girl. Baby Jane Holzer was Warhol's first superstar and the It girl term comes from It (1927) with Clara Bow so Edie had her predecessors.
She is one of a kind and you get that from watching any of her films, not just flipping through her fashion spreads. Sorry flixy, just had to point out that Edie's fascinating because of who she was - not her life drama but the rare "it" factor that she has.
She's an enigma.
xxxafterglow 4 years ago
Actually, if you go back to the beginning, it was Naomi Levine who was Warhol's first female superstar from his '64 film, "Tarzan and Jane Regained... Sort of". It was John Giorno, star of "Sleep", who is generally agreed upon to be the first superstar (male or female).
xTearsOfPearls 4 years ago
Let me add that it was, indeed, Baby Jane Holzer who was the first "it girl" of The Silver Factory and of Warhol's oeuvre, but to be the reigning "it girl" of The Factory and to be a superstar are hardly the same thing.
xTearsOfPearls 4 years ago
she was the 1st girl to be famous for being famous, SHe was the 1st Paris Hilton.
