I just noticed Kenneth is using the Conch shell horn...I've been telling people that our ancestors used a conch shell horn for several years now....Glad to see the Monacan using it :)
Actually the eastern siouans came from the dakota originally. there was a break off and you got the monacan, lakota, and nakota. The monakan was probally pushed east by the iroqians (their enemies). Also this dress style here is not the historical style nor the is the drumming style the historical style.
My two children are Clarks, relatives of the Amherst County Monacan Indian Clarks and I can't wait to show them these videos. For so long these people have been forgotten, ignored and abused, it's great info about them is coming out.
I too felt at home there.Though I never knew my grandmother( drain family )she was too from amherst county I would love to learn more about my heritage
I'm also happy to see Kenneth and his friends using the Copper Armbands....

You're Monacan? My ancestor's tribe was Mattaponi, I literally just learned of this today.
