  • What a fruit!

  • Just another horrifying image from my childhood.

  • a BIT... of a sly double entendre? I think its blatant and funny

  • I HEART Charles Nelson Reilly!

  • I think Charles has had his fair share of bananas in his lifetime, don't ya think. LOL

  • 5 minutes to my 18th birthday....

  • OH SHIZ, IT'S MY WORST NIGHTMARE

  • I WANNA BUY THOSE MARKERS.

  • Ohhh, this commercial ABSOLUTELY 'SCREAMS"!!!

  • Ink crayons...aka markers.

  • oh, dear....

  • was this invented by monkeys or what!

  • Did he used to laugh with his teeth clenched??? As a young kid ,I remember him laughing like that....that muffled laughing sound LOL!!!

  • This commercial was fruity...in more ways than one.

  • I remember this commerc'tial but wasn aware Charles was the star till I just watched it. Sure brings back a lot of memories!!!

  • Oh Mrs. Muir!!!!

  • when being gay wasn't gay.

  • @hassmann2000 Actually, it's a bit of a sly double entendre here.

  • Oh my God, I never thought any commercial could outdo the Big Fig Newton! This is hilarious!

  • @rocknjerr Funny! I always think of those two commercials as being funny in the same weird way!

  • I remember those pens, they lasted about 6 minutes before drying out.

  • OH GOD. What is this? Charles is a riot.

  • Damn. Chuck earned his pay for this performance, wore me out!

  • Nightmare fuel.

  • One of my favorites or shall say, least favorite commercials, because as soon as you saw them on tv, you knew summer was almost over and school was about to start..

  • Oh we've gone Bananas, for BiC Banana and Crayon,

    You'll learn to write a lot - of - ways~~~

Oh we've gone Bananas, for BiC Banana and Crayon,

The colours are so - bright - and gay~~~ (in the happy sense)

Oh you can learn to co-lor, write smooth lines or fat *Ah-huh*

Draw a banana, and give it a hat

    Okay bunch!

You'll go, BANANAS!, For BiC Banana and Crayon,

    You'll learn to write a Lot - of - WAYs~~~!~!~!~!

  • @Chirno9Icefall That's BiC Banana INK crayons...

  • voice of the dirty bubble in spongebob

  • A classic commercial played both on Saturday morning and prime time in 1970's. Definitely a vintage commercial. Wonder if Bic still makes and sells those 'Banana Crayons.?'

  • Ow, this hurt to watch. Poor Charles, just stick to Match Game...

  • Charles Nelson Reilly gay? Say it ain't so.

  • Yeah, he's happy and Gay, alright! I would be too if I was a success in hollywood. However, the fact that he's wearing a banana suit and acting effeminate makes me wonder if he isn't queer...you know, plays for the other team?

  • @TheRealBluesisblood Gee, I think you're right. He might be gay, as in "homosexual." I heard Liberace was too... shocking, I know... and Lance Bass, and Ricky Martin, and, get this... Elton John. You sure have a knack for spotting them though... I hope you'll let us know if you spot any others. It's almost like you have "gay radar" ... or "gay-dar." Truly amazing.

  • he was wonderful - two Tonys for musicals - and a wonderful director as well....he did a lot of small theatre projects in LA and they were always terrific

  • Yes i remember Flair Fe Fi Fo Fum and Right On! Brother's Write On! sung by Johnny Brown (Mr.Bookman of "Good Times")

  • Does anyone remember Flair Fe Fi Fo Fum color markers which were out in 1974? I did.

  • Just...WOW

  • Oh, he did he "noise". Hooray! They use that noise on The Simpsons, and I've been looking all over youtube for it. :-D

  • He was a scream in the cartoon/kid's show....LIDSVILLE!

  • I was a kid when Nelson-Reilly was popular and didn't know about "alternative lifestyles." I thought it was schtick. Looking back, he had a lot of courage to portray an image that would piss some people off. I understand that the and Paul Lynde didn't give-a-shit what people thought. Good for them!!!

  • I told everyone that the video of Bea Arthur talking to Madame (of Waylon Flowers and Madame) about Rock Hudson was the gayest video on You Tube. I stand corrected.

  • I still love watching Charles irregardless if he is gay! He was the greatest!

  • @cartoongameshowfan76

Irregardless isn't a word. It's either irrespective or regardless.

  • @Lamonjello The term irregardless is like a knife in the heart every time I hear it. I also hate when people say "what are your future plans..." That is soooo redundant.

  • He's happy and gay, alright.

  • I remember this commercial from my childhood in the 1970s. It played quite often, and I liked the commercial even though I never got my hands on the product. An added bonus was the fact that Charles Nelson Reilly was in this commercial because he was one of my favorite comedy character actors. At the time it seemed as if he was all over the place on tv. Commercials, tv shows, etc., but most memorably in syndicated reruns of the classic tv show The Ghost and Mrs Muir

  • Had 'em for seventh grade(1972),didn't care that he was gay,he was soooo funny!

  • Oh. My. God.

  • "Bright and gay"? LMAO! I remember "Chuck" doing ads for Wizard air fresheners in the mid to late 70's. Let's see some of those.

I'd also like to see a skit he did with Johnny Carson, Chuck playing a ticket agent at an airport, asking Johnny "Smoking or non-smoking?" and "Gay or non-gay?"

  • @wolf359x Is this the one you were trying to find? -> It is called Carson show-Charles Nelson Reilly and Sirraymondbell uploaded it. Lmao! I found it so hilarious I swallowed the juice from my gum down the wrong pipe.

  • I just can't stop laughing. I mean if Charles Nelson Reilly in a Banana suit isn't enough he draws a "hat on a banana"....just... wow

  • Charles was the best! His laugh (huh huh) was the funniest thing. Sadly he didn't do it anymore in later years. We miss you Charles.

  • Charles was a riot. Hope he and Dom DeLuise are having some laughs together. Both of them had such contagious laughter.

  • Their colors weren't the only thing that was "bright and gay" on this commercial!

  • LOL

  • Awesome! Charles was just great! That laugh was unique and his comedy was as well. Very funny!

  • I really remember this one! RIP Charles! Loved You!

  • this one's for my man dean because at least HE remembers it, he's a bit older than me.

  • CNR sharing his gay colors with a classroom full of children! hyuuuuh hyuuuuh hyuuuuuh!!!!

  • R.I.P. CNR

  • ..."bright and (really) GAY!"

I actually remember this shit. wow...im old

  • i can die happy now

  • LOLOLOL!!!!!!

  • "A banana a day keep monkeys away!" That's very true. Thanks CNR!

  • Fucking LOVE CNR! <33

  • I remember this. This was recently aired on a local station called "Me TV" in Chicago.

  • the crayon isnt the only thing "bright and GAY" in this ad.

  • I think Charles would approve of your comment. He often joked that way.

  • i guess i ment it that way. i liked CNR. he was always my favorite on Match Game.

  • :o)

  • As only Charles Nelson Riley could be.

  • @heymoe64 ha ha,

  • @heymoe64 ROTFLOL.

  • I remember that!!

  • ???oke???

  • awesome

  • Awesome

  • fabulous

  • "Their color's are so bright and gaaaay!!!"

    No doubt about it Charles.

  • LOL, LMAO! I can't help it, it's as silly as ever and utterly hilarious!

  • i don't know if i'd call it a masterpiece but it's something alright.

  • This is a masterpiece.

  • yus bananas are so gay with their crayons

  • oh yeahhhhh I remember! CNR!

  • omg, what the heck is this???
