  • Great video, I learned a lot! Thanks very much!

  • @Butterfingers2002

    Thanks, you are welcome!

  • just wondering. what was the 3rd plug on the hard drive that you didn't plug anything into (5:50 ish)? and why didn't you put anything into it? im building a rig soon and want to learn as much as possible before hand :D

  • @MrPhxkinMassacre I think you mean the jumper pins. When hard drives were IDE you used to have to set the jumpers buy moving a metal contact to any two of the pins to set the master/slave etc. But with SATA you do not need to bother with jumpers. Good luck with the build ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman ahh ok thanks :)

  • fantastic video, cheers :)

  • @ShezzzDog

    You are welcome

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • How much did this setup cost?

  • @gordonfreeman162

    £1200 in December 2009

  • gay

  • @Beliyvadik

I'm not bothered if you are Gay, it doesn't matter to me ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman you are very gay , pink yelow pink yelow xaxaxxa

  • @Beliyvadik

    Girlfriends scissors I'm afraid ;-)

    LOL

  • I really like your videos, thank you so much, saved me much time building it.

  • @DesignerDigital

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • Is it safe to use a magnetic screw driver around the mother board and such parts?

  • @daninetails867

Nor sure if it is safe or not, so I would not risk it ;-)

  • @daninetails867 screws should come with your tower if not i wouldnt risk it

  • At 7:30, because HAF cases have special holes for cable management (so cables can be hidden at the other side of the case), one could use this feature. But because this is a tutorial and the user must see where a cable begins and where it ends, it's absolutely ok. Besides, this is the best video about a PC building I have seen until now.

  • @hrbear

Thanks for the comment. People often pick up on the fact that I put the GPU in the wrong slot as well, but it was much easier to film it in the second slot! At least the vides's have helped a few people build their own computers ;-)

  • I have the same case its soo cool

  • The power supply slot is in a strange place normally it would be on top. This case makes it so easy to install unlike those other cases

  • you sound like soap from mw2

  • wrist bands are for bitches

  • @matawin2

You must wear one on each hand then ;-)

  • @matawin2 yes they are., really no reason for it unless your on carpet with socks on.

  • how much did all those costet you?

  • @TheSpanjol91

It was about £1200 in December 2009

  • Where did you get all your components from?

  • @themanhunt1234

Unfortunately I bought from a firm that does not sell to the public. (can't even remember the name, sorry)

  • 6/10 for cable management..!!

  • @deepakjindal070

What cable management- I never used it ;-)

  • I noticed you plugged one of the hard drives into a white sata port. Was there any reason for this, when the other sata ports were blue?

  • @90210blackman

I remember connecting it, but can't remember why I connected it there!

  • You won't need the extra 4 pins on your mobo's power. And neither do you on the cpu power. The computer should boot up just fine with the 20 pin connector and just ONE 4 pin connector on the cpu power. Make sure it's on the right side though and not in the middle or on the left.

  • One suggestion, Power the thing up before you seal it. Make sure it boots up. Otherwise you will be sealing and resealing the thing all day.

  • 2:10 But I love the old days that you use 4 screws to hold the drive.

  • @honam1021

If there are four holes aligned I use 4 screws ;-)

  • im just ordering Molex to P4 ATX Power Adapter from eby now,i must be able to get missing place with it,hope it will work, much cheaper then to get another psu tho.

    thanks for help

  • @muntazamx

    No problem, Good luck ;-)

  • Hi mate,I got an old pc there is a 20 pin connector with it but the motherbord has +4 pin, computer makes sound when i want to start it but i can see anything on the screen,i am wondering is it cos of it has not got 4 more pin on the psu?

when i connect the 20 pin there is 4 more pin place but i got nothing on psu for there to use.do i have to get new psu with the one 24 pin(20+4)

  • @muntazamx

I'm pretty sure that you need a PSU with the two connectors to make it work correctly.

  • At the top left corner of the motherboard where the Cpu plug does in my power supply only gives me 2 4-pins. Do i fit both 4 pins in or just one? My motherboard isnt turning on :(

  • @GumbieIs1337

Do you have this exact motherboard?

  • Does motherboard comes with the power supply as well? if it doesnt how do you know if the power supply has the neccessary cables for the motherboard? (i'm new at this)

  • @civicZTypeR

Computers are modular, so the power supply will fit almost any motherboard. New PSU's will not fit some older type motherboards. ATX is the modern standard so as long as you have an ATX PSU and ATX motherboard you will be fine.

  • You'll have to do wireing aswell, you can't let all wires be like that, they'll block air moving etc :)

  • @santamario99

Will they heck as block the air, they just looks better if you use cable management.

As my case is not in view I do not consider it important.

  • @ultimatehandyman well they can block air if they all in front of fan etc :D

  • @santamario99

Not been a problem on this computer and all my previous computers never had cable management and they were also fine

  • @ultimatehandyman aha :D well my cable management was done for me when i sent pc for repair to get new psu(i knew nothing about pc's back then and don't know so much now neighter but the basics :D)

  • which should i put first:the motherboard or the power supply??

also should i place the power supply with the fan facing down the bottom of the case or up??

  • @gerry13cs

You can fit the PSU or motherboard first, it does not really matter.

Fit the PSU so that the writing is the correct way up, that should ensure it is the correct way.

  • @ultimatehandyman ok i just finished seting up my new pc case-everything's fine!!

    thanks for the advice

  • @gerry13cs

    Well done!

    Thanks for the comments

  • thank you i'm using the same case this helps a lot.

  • @Ignore14

You are welcome. Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • is that a thermal take case? it looks a lot like my black widow case

  • @sonic911

Not sure, it is a coolermaster HAF 922

  • @ultimatehandyman it looks almost identical, im getting my mobo tomorrow and ill have all the components, just a couple quick questions, if i have win 7 already installed on my old hard drive to i have to install it again?, i have an i5 core quad do i need 64 bit win7 or can i keep using 32 bit x86? and will any of this process wipe my hard drive? thanks i really would appreciate the help

  • @sonic911 yes... you wont have the same components (M/B CPU RAM etc etc) so u will get a Blue Screen u must install windows again on a formated drive. You can use whatever windows u like 32 or 64 (64bit support more RAM than the 3GB limiter on 32bit so if u have 2x2gb -or more- RAMS get 64bit).in order to Install Windows the Hard Drive u install them to MUST be Blank-Formated so yes your HDD will have to be formated. Back Up your files (music.videos.files etc) on another HDD or USB stick

  • and actually how much did this PC cost? pls reply

  • @HomePcGamer

It was about £1200 in December 2010

  • @ultimatehandyman ok tnx

  • This is a great series, I'm definitely going to use your videos this summer when I make my own build. Thank you for the help!

  • @silverwolf731

    Thanks for the comment.

Good luck with the build ;-)

  • idiot proof lol!

  • @TheAbstractFX

    Thanks very much ;-)

  • @TheAbstractFX

I think that it is the motherboard that governs the maximum amout of ram rather than the processor.

Apparently I have installed the incorrect RAM in this computer according to a few people on here, who have said that I could of improved performance by installing a different type of RAM. I only use this computer for editing HD videos and webdesign and so it works perfectly for me, but a gamer might notice the difference!

  • @TheAbstractFX

    I installed 8GB

  • @TheAbstractFX

Thanks, I don't go chasing subscribers as I am too busy with other things lol. Every additional subscriber helps though, so thanks.

  • @TheAbstractFX

Hi, Sorry but I am no means an expert on what is the best hardware to buy. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will answer ;-)

  • @TheMrDisser

    Thanks for the comments ;-)

  • @TheMrDisser

I know, but when I first made these tutorials I was not a youtube partner.

Now I can upload much larger files ;-)

  • Good video for people who are building their first PC's. However, I am disappointed in the lack of cable management in the video. I know the PC will work even in a salad of cables, but giving some tips about arranging and hiding cables in general would have been worth the time.

Also, for those wondering, the wrist band is commonly used by people working in electronic departments (factories, PC hardware stores, etc.), but they are not mandatory for a home user.

  • @syrocc

Please let me know when you have done the video on cable management and I'll check it out.

  • @ultimatehandyman

I am not in the business of making Youtube tutorials. That seems to be your alley. It wasn't intended as an offensive remark, even though you seem to have taken as such. If so, I'm sorry. I wanted to make some constructive criticism, seems like it wasn't the best idea. However, I still consider mentioning and giving general tips about cable management would be a nice addition to your tutorial. I am aware that a full guide on doing so wouldn't fit into a 10 minute clip.

  • @syrocc

No problem, thanks for the clarification.

I did not bother with cable management as the case is not on show.

I intended to make a how to build a computer tutorial, but as you say there was no way I could fit it into the 10 minute limit, so I had to cut it into 5 parts.

    Thanks again!

  • First off i subscribed,

second, thank you so much for this series because i'm going to build my first pc soon.

Third, i have a gigabyte motherboard and i also chose a core i7 and a coolermaster case. Will this work? I picked the followingL

    COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP

    GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel P67

    Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W

EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz

    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin

    Will this fit

  • what RAM cards work best with this motherboard

  • @bomerman104

I have no idea. If you look at the 2nd video from this series there are some comments on there about the RAM

  • Nice scissors lol :D

  • @PS3Bloodykittens

    Ha Ha ;-)

  • i totally agree cable managmen makes case looks cool i really doubt about aiflow but u are going to look at the screen not at the pc just amke sure cables dont mess with the fans xD

  • Thanks for your guide.

No nonsense, easy to follow. I like it.

  • @Karmoon7

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman so the ANTI STATIC band prevents any type of electric passage 2 ur body rit?

  • @e35554r

Yes, it prevents static build up.

  • @e35554r ya gets rid of static. though i nver use them. i have built 5 computers without them and did no harm.

Of course i have hard wood floors, if you only have carpet then you really need one.

  • @ultimatehandyman You are my hero......one of the most useful videos on youtube thanks! BTW love the accent :)

  • @llama3aterr

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • What took me the longest to figure out was the front panel plugs, this was my first time installing a motherboard and I assumed that I had to match the color of the cables to the color of the pins (as opposed to reading the label XD).

  • Cable management you know??

  • @wwyk1993

I'm not a nerd or a geek, the computer is out of sight ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman Cable management is not just for looks.. It's also to improve air flow within the case.. You know??

  • @wwyk1993

I really don't give a shit about cable management!

If you want to mess about with the cables then so be it ;-)

  • How much did all of this cost?

  • @mlanonymous

It was about £1200 and that was twelve months ago.

  • @ultimatehandyman was this with or with out the monitor keyboard and mouse???

  • @ExplodingDohNUTS

That was without the monitor, keyboard or mouse.

The prices might of come down since I built it, as computer parts are often cheaper year on year.

  • oh... lol you should have bought a modular... that looks like alot of cables...

  • @mlanonymous

lol, the computer is never in a place where people can see in the case, hence I didn't bother with cable management.

  • @ultimatehandyman but then u dont get a good airflow, anyways thanks alot for these videos im right now building haf922 + x58a-ud3r !

  • cool thnx helped me to build ma PC

  • @UnknownK1995

    Good stuff.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • just made my first pc similar specs as well wish i saw this before i would of breezed through it :)

  • awesome video :), Helped me build my computer

  • @FJqattan

    Thanks for the comment.

  • First of all I wanna say..AWESOME job man! I'm actually building my 1st pc soon very similar specs; same case and same mobo. I was just wondering if you can make a vid on cable management for the case? also since its my first time building a pc I would really appreciate it if you can also show me where to connect the fans.

  • @dl1206

    Thanks for the comment.

I didn't bother with cable management in my case as it is not on display and the window faces the wall. The motherboard manual shows where to plug the fans in. If you get stuck ask and I'll take a look (time permitting)

  • Thats quite the computer you've built there. Very helpful videos, thanks man.

  • @berttheman1230

    Thanks for the comment!

    You are welcome.

  • do the case fans plug into the motherboard or froma power supply cable

  • @callofdutyguy9

    They plug into the motherboard.

  • this is the reason why they made modular power supplies.(the best invention)

  • i like the pink flower scisorssssssssss

  • Man I don't know how to put the cables in I have put the graphics card and everything in, but I don't know where to put any of the cables RAWR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheAmefist

Normally they are pretty straight forwards, as they will only fit in one place. Might be time for a cup of tea - or a beer!

  • @ultimatehandyman Really? so basically they only fit in one spot?

  • @TheAmefist

The connections are modular, so you can't use the wrong connector as only the correct one will fit, apart from the single connectors on the motherboard and they should be identified in the motherboard manual.

  • @ultimatehandyman Nice okay just wondering can I use my sata 6.0gbs configured hard drive on one of those sata 6.0gbs slots if I only have one hard drive?

  • @TheAmefist

I'm no expert, but it should work!

  • @TheAmefist Again wondering do I have to use all the power supply cords? because I only used like 3 wtf?

  • @TheAmefist

No, I had a load left spare on my PC.

  • @ultimatehandyman Need some more help sorry lol Where do I connect my case fans? I have a AzzA Solano 1000 case and I don't know where to plug the fans in on my gigabyte x58a-ud3r

  • @TheAmefist

They connect to the sys_fan1, sys_fan2 and sys_fan3 connectors

  • @ultimatehandyman

i couldnt find your certain kind of cooler master, do they all have those buttons at 0:36

  • @superstrok99

I'm not sure if all cooler master versions have the buttons.

  • @ultimatehandyman Where do I plug the vcc usb- usb+ gnd in? This is really grinding my gears!

  • @TheAmefist

They connect to the connectors at the bottom of the motherboard, which are numbered 16 in the manual (if you have the same motherboard)

  • Your microphone is too good, I can clearly hear you breathing and that's annoying :D.

  • @jupstejuho

    I didn't have a microphone, just a bad cold!

  • thats a big casing and a very small graphics card. looks so funny :))

  • Nice scissors... :-p

  • what is your case model?

  • @samn100

Cooler master HAF 922, not 222 as it says in the video

  • @ultimatehandyman How delicate is the CPU? Im scared of even touching it. Will it still work if i touch the contacts by accident?

  • @samn100

It's best if you do not touch the contacts.

Just take your time and make sure you grab it firmly by the edges.

  • how about some cable managment for improved airflow?

  • @oORlxOo

I really don't think that it is an issue to be honest.

  • @ultimatehandyman i think it is,its much more esthetic and its much easier to access everything if the cables are not all over the case, also it improves the airflow especially in that case.

  • @oORlxOo yea i was thinking the same, nice big case with cable management and hes not using it... might as well just have a closed case

  • @DaMirrorLink

I'm sorry that everyone is not a genius like you.

Perhaps when you learn how to spell and punctuate correctly, people will take you seriously.

  • could you have fitted the power supply at the top or was it the case designed for it to be at the bottom

  • @Marron077

You could only fit the PSU at the bottom.

  • @ultimatehandyman ok just looking at it there, i have parts coming this week, this video was a good help, always a good idea to refresh your skills and learn some tips, i should have a powerfull machine i7 930. how is this machine running?

  • @Marron077

It's great for me, but I don't do gaming!

I do edit HD videos though and on my old PC it could take 12 hours to encode a video, but the same video on this computer takes about 25 mins!

  • i got a quick question. my system is really close to urs but when i put it all together i was unable to see any picture of bios

  • Thanks for the tutorials, i have the Corsair 800D and i5 750, alot diffrent parts but still it does help me:)

  • @TheSympathon

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad that the tutorials have helped!

  • What kind of plugs are those for the power supply and the Static-resist wrist strap becuase the only kind I know is the normal

    | | .

    and yours are like

    _ _ |

  • @ SlyTashi

They are standard three pin plugs as used all over the United Kingdom. They also use this type of plug in some parts of Cyprus and a few other countries.

  • @ultimatehandyman

    Is your accent Welsh?

  • @ ehunter2

Well so far people have guessed at Massachusetts and Wales lol

I have a Lancashire accent, Darwen to be precise :-)

  • @SlyTashi they are the plugs we have here in the UK ;)

  • @ mickeyliveshere

Thanks very much for the comment.
