  • When i was in school, we learned "ta me" dith me, chonaic me, so hearing verbs now as "taim and so forth " is a bit confuzin- . Was it always like that, and were the schoolbooks a more simplified way of getting to grips with it all, if y;know what i mean??

I hated Irish in school, but i think its interesting to learn casual talk in it now- thanks again for these uploads man.

  • Well the foirm tháithte i.e. "táim" is older than the foirm scarrtha "tá mé" so yeah, it was always there, hahaha. It's not that they simplified it but they chose to teach the simpler forms although I don't see how "táim" is any harder than "tá mé". Depends on the dialect, in Kerry "táim" is what's said.

There's a MOUNTAIN of Irish out there that you'd never come across in school so be open to new things...Thanks for watching the videos!

  • I think when someone is trying to learn a new tongue it's easier to associate with chunks you can combine, if you know what I mean, rather then memorizing a cryptic looking word that always or might change shape (most of us beginners can't read irish very well to begin with). Thus it becomes easier (for me!) to remember Tá mé, Ta tú, Tá sé... and then just tack on lets say "te" and there I have "Tá sé te". Just my thoughts on the matter :)

  • I know what you're saying alright but that's the way the do it in school and when you ask a student to change one word in the sentence or to make it positive or whatever they're at a loss unless they've learnt off that particular sentence off by heart aswell. I'll soon start making phrase videos but I want people to have the background information and grammar first, something which most people who learn their Irish in school don't...but I know what you're saying...

  • hello !

  • Cárbh as duit? Ní aontaím leat go bhfuil 'tá mé' in ionad 'táim' leanabhach. Canúint éagsúil atá i gceist. Gaeilge na Mumhainn - táim. Gaeilge Uladh agus Connachta - tá mé.

  • Is as Ciarraí me agus anso i gCiarraí ní deirtear "tá mé". Ar ndóigh, braitheann sé ar an gcanúint. Deirim é sin sa bhfíseán, maidir leis an bhfoirm tháite sa Deisceart agus an fhoirm scartha sa Tuaisceart. Don gcuid is mó, is iad na daoine ná fuil ach Gaelainn scoile acu a deireann "tá mé" i gCiarraí. Fáth eile gur fearr "táim" ná ná fuil aon bhriathar eile sa chéad phearsa uatha san aimsir láithreach a bhfuil foirm scartha aige. B'fhearr gan eisceacht a dhéanamh de.
