dude. this guy is really grating on my nerves. they aren't asking for free music. just not unattainably expensive music at a rate completely out of sync with every broadcasting medium in effect.
This whole thing is a joke. They keep talking about rights to cut your own deals, but which one of us has the time for that, same with the artists, who has the time? Let alone they are all failing to mention that SoundExchange has the LEGAL right to collect the royalties for EVERYONE, even if they cut their own deals.
Lemonade!!! Dude, the artists are getting paid performance royalties for the lemonade. We just don't think price gouging is fare. You pay $3.00 for a gallon of gas, next time you want gas, if they charge you $12.00 the next time, and ask you to pay more for the previous time as well, you'll understand what we screamin'.
AARUGH! I keep hearing new things... YES, ALL WEBCASTERS WILL DISAPPEAR. I take that back... pirates who pay NO royalties will still be on the air. How about lemonade going out while the lemonade providers get NOTHING?
I'm also irritated to keep hearing about the "cost of business." Look, I've got plenty of cost! I paid for the streaming computer, I pay for the internet connection, I pay for the website, I pay for the streaming distribution, and I pay ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and SoundExchange. Then there's the cost of time... hours, and hours and hours. Is my time not worth anything?
I only want to pay the price for the "lemonade" that other media outlets have to... in the case of broadcast, that's NOTHING. For satellite radio, it's a percentage of revenue... which is what we're asking for in the Internet Radio Equality Act. We're not asking for FREE lemonade, we're asking for a price for lemonade that allows us to stay in business. Otherwise... every lemonade stand CLOSES. And you can't sell your lemonade if there aren't stands!
Yes, there are costs of doing business, but do you you think it is reasonable to implement a 300% fee increase retroactive to January 1, 2006? Without a transition period for small businesses to absorb such cost increases, they have no choice but to declare bankruptcy. Most startups simply do not anticipate to be deluged with skyrocketing operational expenses overnight.
I hate how this guy keeps saying the word "lemonade". We can just skip over his questions entirely.

We will send the money over seas or to the pirates.
Sending more money from the US to another country if the US web broadcasters are gone.
The other country's are ready to take our listeners!
