  • CLASSIC DANCES SONG

  • parents, pay for music lessons rather than drum machines

see what instruments played well can do?

  • 16 going on 17 and loving this bass rift, might have to build my self a time machine!! What the heck happened to this music????

  • @Orangesocksburst Im not sure what happened to this generation, its quite sad! Check out my playlists on my page,I have a bunch of oldies there!

  • @o0R3stless0o Will do =D

  • I fucking love the bass riffs in this song. Probably one of my favorites, easily.

  • That bassline is ridiculous!

  • I love the drum roll on 5:03

  • I guess old people havent heard of french house/french touch? Its this, modernized. Peace ;)

  • @evilbetty2011 I'm 23, and french. I was a big house fan, and now I prefer funk music, more alive, more improvisation, more possibilities, and a strong bass.

  • Between 2:33 and 4:27 you are like mesmerized by the funky electric guitar, then at 4:27 the bass solo is killing you. The surprise effect is great ! WHAT A BASS MY FRIENDS WHAT A BASS

  • HELL YES!!!! I am from San Francisco and these guys were legends at the time of this jam coming out of the bay area!!

  • this song is the bomb awesome bass

  • this is real funk pumping funk & poping & puching

  • ahhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Group is out of Portland Oregon..who'd thunk that. The Bass Player RIP.

  • This song is 32 years old

  • Best slap bassline. EVER.

  • @Nessthegreat I don't know..Slide by Slave, North South East West by Kool and the Gang and Black Byrd by Donald Byrd merits some consideration.

  • One of my all time favorites. The essence of "funk"! When it comes to slap bass, theres Nate then everybody else. If this cut does not make you make the "funk face", nothing will LOL!

  • Preach Brothers ... Preach!!! If they liked this... they will love Side Effect... Brothers Johnson... Cameo... Lakeside... Shalimar... The Bar Kays... Dynasty... Tower of Power... AWB... Blackbyrds.. Bootsie... Parliment... The Whispers... Nytro... Mother's Finest... Earth Wind and Fire... George Duke... and on and on till the break of dawn!

  • The biggest way to combat the crap music of today is to educate the younger generations. Share the music of yester year with them. Take them to a music store rather than Walmart. Buy them a real instrument rather than Rock Band! If they actually learn what it takes to actually make music, they wil appreciate the art form a lot more! Encourage them to pratice and invite friends over to jam rather than complain about the noise!

  • @sonicfunk FA SHO!! I agree

  • I will always love this band and the guys in it. I worked with them when I was still in college as an internship. Toured the country, got to see Sylvester when he recorded the live album, worked for the first time at the Apollo. An amazing group of men.

  • Comment removed

  • O them days!....Just simple pleasure....way up above the BS of today!

    Music you can FEEL.

    ...and DAMN...they actually had INSTRUMENTS!!!!!

  • I'm Feelin' that nasty ass bassline.

"NOW THATS REAL MUSIC 4 YO ASS"

  • Great Upload! Greetzzz from germany to alll you funky folks

  • I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THESE IN THE 503 ( PORTLAND )

  • I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THESE GUYS IN THE 503 ( PORTLAND )

  • in 79 I was 23 and playing the bass because of groups like pleasure. in 2011 I'm 55 and still playing the bass because of groups like pleasure. Nuff said. A classic bassline and homework for all serious electric bass guitar players.

  • I wished all you people would stop using vulgar lanugage and talk about this good piece of music in a more adult, professional way. I'm 47 years old and I do remembe when this song was released, and it hasn't changed. The same great jam it has been and will always be. I'm sure the band members of Glide would be happy about that! Stop acting like Gordon Ramsey!

  • AAAAAYYYYeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh Iloveit!!!!!!

  • some of you need to quit bitchin about samples not being real music, some samplers are way more talented than the supposed "real musicians that make there own damn music" from the 70s and 80s. if you dont believe me check out jel's sweetcreaminit or rjd2's ghostrider. samples are fucking awsome.

  • @fishyfish420 YOU DONE BUMPED YO FUCKING HEAD.SAMPLING AINT NOTHING BUT SUCKING A REAL ARTIST DICK

  • that bass player probably fucks a virgin every day

  • I always thought this was a Brothers Johnson track back in the day.

  • Of course the bass is the focus, but good synthesizer too, and good guitar riff.

  • SLAPPA DA BASS!

  • Thank you for this song, I have searching for this song for a very very very long time, thank you so much.

  • There are some really good intellectual arguments on here...Money and quick riches played on the naive and the lack of of backbone from industry has reduced music to turning knobs and actuating keys to start a loop or trigger a sampled sound...

One of the singers from the group "GUY" said he was going to bring instruments back into Funk. Never happened. Never got the FUNK either. You have to follow tours to get FUNK

  • BACK IN THE DAY THIS WAS THE JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM.

    ITS ALL GOOD YOU DIG.

OLD SKOOL IS AS STRONG AS EVER...

CHECK OUT ...BRAINSTORM LOVIN IS REALLY MY GAME..

  • This Track has one of the BADDEST basslines I ever heard. It STILL sounds "SLAMMIN' " even now.

Can ANY of the Hip-Hop artists DUPLICATE this, WITH an INSTRUMENT, and not a Sampling machine ?

    HELL NO !

  • @Erionnacirema Is this a trick question? Hellz to the Naw! Those fools can't play anything other than a cd player.

  • wow some of the comment are hilarious....i miss this music but i also miss the old school electronic stuff too...but then again i dont really have a preference

  • I been in such a great mood this morning, and this song gets me up and Dancin'!! Old school jams ain't neva failed to get me off my ass. lol

  • @gentlefist18 that right

  • Why did they stop making good music like this. Bad Jam!!!!!!!

  • i don't understand why this video has sound? and the one with the spinning record

violated a copyright? this is the same song

  • ahh yeeah..

  • The Bass solo was one of the all time best !

  • That Right Keep The Old School Alive.....! Cruisin'

  • Old school jam!

  • awesome grove!

  • Heyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!! I am FEELING THISSSSSS MAAAAAAN!!!!

  • I'm 19 again.... thank you .

  • MY JAM FROM BACK IN THE DAY!!!!

  • ohhhhhhhh man do you know how long ive been looking for this and dancing to this! warehouse parties London in the 80s radical sound system and soul to soul this is a crazy moment for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a strait up "House Party" song. Every era got it's traditions ...This song had da brothas sweatin..

  • a funky bass line

  • Your opinion of music is your opinion. Being arrogant and saying something like "this particular type of music is trash" is relative to what you believe. Don't try to impose your views on somebody else just because you don't believe what they believe. Bitches up in here be talk'n that trash

  • I have`nt heard this in years Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!! They sure don`t make music like this anymore. Nothing even comes close.

  • Bruce Carter R I P my brother. we miss you !

  • i could play this bass line at 12 years old slim!

  • yea i could see how you thought that was slave almost the same bass style as slave sounds like slide

  • @jessejdubb3rd i was thinking the same thing(about how the song sound just like slave)

  • yea i could see how you thought that was slave almost the same bass style as slave

  • Bruce Carter on Drums...RIP

  • yummy :)

  • I was 12 when this came out and had it on 45 at first. The double sided 45, with Thoughts Of Old Flames on the B-Side was a great purchase. 32 years later, this still bumps and I play it loud and proud.

  • I'm 20 and this is the best music I've ever heard. Long live da funk!

  • I loved this song in high school, but I hadn't heard it in so long, I'd forgotten about it.

  • after all these years this joint syill bangs....

  • Marlon McClain on Guitar...also Underrated...

  • Thumpin azz bass! Yeah, lot of folks thought this was Con Funk Shun

  • Trust me back in the day I played bass guitar in a reggae band. Each night I would learn this and Brazilian Love affair - George Duke in my bedroom with the guitar plugged into the stereo, couldn't even afford an amp!!LOL!!

  • My goodness! This takes me back. I was in middle school learning electric guitar in band. We had a three piece band (guitar, bass, drum) and this was one of the first songs me and the guys learned on our own. We even performed it at a school PTA meeting. Thanks for putting this funky gem on here.

  • 3 mofo's need to GLIDE RIGHT ON BY!

  • Dude had to get a new Bass after this,'cause he done broke it!

  • SMOOTH LIKE ((PATRON))...FUNK 4 LIFE BABY!

  • 1979....going to the rink..GREAT SKATE IN UPPER DARBY OF COURSE" and having fun on a saturday night...:) If you know this song, you get it.

  • Yes they sould bring back music classes as part of the curriculum plus band classes too, because thats where you learned if you could play an instrument or sing or dance etc. The live bands would still be alive and well instead of pushing buttons in the studios producing carbon copy music of today.

  • think this version is remastered some of the glide's in the choruses sound like they are run thru an effects module some "Delay" ...This whole album was (IS)a Masterpiece

  • This bass line is just...RIDICULOUS!!!

  • Untouchable production, way ahead of it's time.

  • the white guy on the right is surely the bass player

  • @raptorr84

    lmao

  • @raptorr84 HeLLLL No .sorry

  • too bad black people,do not make music like this anymore!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've said it before....I'll say it again......R&B, although it has improved over the past 10 years or so, it will NEVER sound like this again. This is definitely a one shot deal. Great post!!

  • Dave C! Fawz! V-town 1979!! remember?? t-top 78 z-28 nothin but the funk!

  • heard victor wooton quote this in one of his solos...been dying to know if it was his.awesome.

  • any torrentsite where i can find it?

  • P-Funk Professional drummer; I played to this album and many others including Dayride with Return To Forever and I was the best drummer in the State and the region all the way through school. Now everywhere I play the mood changes dramatically mainly at jam sessions.

  • 2 people don´t have a funkheart!

  • well glide on then!!!!!

  • Outstanding jam. Likely Fall 1979. Hostages in Iran, no gas, Jimmy Carter, disco fading, roller skates in NYC. Brings back all the memories. Bass great!!! Music today just awful.

  • Awesome!!!! Back in the Day......Pittsburg Senior High School. Pittsburg Ca. Class of 1979.

  • incredible

  • Heavy wate funk, This music must live on because this is the heart beat of funk

    real musicians know !!!

  • Funkiest jam ever!!!!!!

  • yeah turn up the heat!

  • @ blazepowderman ....Understand this sir...Keep things in perspective..The musicians from my era...Wrote sung, and played their music, rather than this sampling crap that goes on today...Pleasure was one of those bands, and their music was pure..I'm glad they didn't sell out and let these clowns sample their music with these rappers who use profanity laced lyrics in every thing they say..

    For example..lol.."Yea yea, I love God, but **uck y'all n*gas"..straight garbage music...lol..

  • @dnfmlyaffr amen!

  • @dnfmlyaffr Preach brother, Preach! I Love it!

  • BOK TECH H.S IN SOUTH PHILLY JOINT

  • did any1 hear those chords!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO!

  • This is arguably the funkiest baseline ever played on any planet.

  • I heard this song for the first time and taped it off an old-school radio station in the mid or late 90's and was never able to find out what the name of the song or the artist who did it until a few days ago. A link to this song was actually included in a preview for a college basketball team(Georgetown) which brought me here. I was never able to tell if they were saying FLASH, FLY or SLIDE before 'Ride On By'

  • "Glide On By"

  • ''One of the Greatest Funk & Fusion Bands to ever hit this Planet!!!'' ''Light Years ahead of their time!'',Listen to (Space is the Place) & (Universal Children)!!!'' ''Where on Earth is the (LIVE) concert footage of this incredible band????''

  • dnfmlyaffr you are right about that!
