  • Look all those ppl high, I would love be there-

  • all musician should that closes to guitar

  • the amount of groove in that guitar has yet to be surpassed...

  • 60´s psychedelic

  • don't get me started on Janie "Hendrix"

    ______________________

agreed regarding if JH had the technology available to anyone who walks in a GC today can buy...

but he is still a great example of imagination, ability and commitment to his art

  • man i remember being stoned outta my mind listenin to this shit.

  • The music's great but I hate the double exposure crap of the film. Lousy ass 60s filmmakers.

  • wow !

  • so much better than band of gypsys version in fillmore....its missin the black ladies doin the "ooohh's" and "ahhh's" during the chorus but whatever haha

  • Jimi Hendrixs' music fluently speaks the language of my soul.

  • god? thats a bit silly to can a man referring to the Almighty because he can do something you cant?

  • what chords is that riff? My guitar never sounds like that. He's God!!!

  • @russianspiesx a god? thats a bit silly to can a man referring to the Almighty because he can do something you cant?

  • i am what i am, thank God

  • I FUCKING LOVE HENDRIX SO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CANT SAY.......... i will play you legacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEARRCH MMMMMMMMAZE OF DREAMSSSS

  • 60's video editing = FAIL

  • @rimla212 July 1970...decade fail!

  • @oldweaseleye you can still count that as 60's ;)

  • Billy rocks!

  • This Maui concert sounds so great because Jimi was playing comfortably. No racial pressure or drama. He was onstage with his two best homeboys. No disrespect to Buddy Miles but Mitch was Jimi's ace. With Billy on bass they couldn't be beat.

  • @SnappyJones13 -sure they could, with Noel Redding they could easily be beat ...haha...its all subjective though, the original Experience was by far the better trio!

  • @SnappyJones13 You hit it right on target. You know humanity and music. Cox was a better bassist and Mitch was the better drummer. (esp. for Hendrix' sound and style)

  • @SnappyJones13 Jimi and buddy where best friends, and got along great according to Miles, by the way, jimi, miles and cox created the greatest live-album ever created and i would say half of jimis top shit, like this very song. there was no racial pressure there was just great music, omg, the machine gun on CD2 of Live at the Fillmore east is... undefineable. I definetly preferred the steady pace miles set, mitchell was just lucky to be there, hendrix could make it with anyone

  • oh man its so tasty

  • can you get the maui rainbow bridge gig on Lp ,dvd ,CD anywhere?

  • @taariqtaariq Some stores that specialize in this type of material (old, out of print, unofficial) do exist, but I don't know of any personally. You're better off just going with torrent communities and burning the stuff to CD yourself. EXP Hendrix is really taking their time on an official release of this, don't wait for them.

  • @SteadyHaze I am a vinyl or nothing kind of guys these days.

  • If everyone on earth spoke the same language and was a Hendrix fan we'd have world peace by now.

  • My favorite version of Message To Love

  • Man that univibe sound orgasmic at the end. thats whats giving jimis guita that

    "sliding out of existence" sound.

  • Purty cool all the stuff that has surfaced last 41 years with Janie (hours & hours of JAH bootlegs and all). It's all very interesting to me...but the jams Jimi and Mitch laid down in those short 3 years I will take with me to the grave. Still looking for a recording of Jimi and Randy California... "Jimmy James and the Blue Flames"...Can ya' help me?

  • @Cleofizoid Janie didn't do anything. Most of the guys my age (54) will tell you we heard almost everything that has come out since he died in 9/70 during the mid early to mid 70's. Very little has come out since then that we haven't heard. But, we had War Heroes, The Cry of Love, Rainbow Bridge, Isle of Wight, Most of Woodstock, Midnite Lightning, Hendrix and Jim Morrison, Crash Landing. A lot of the are revised or alternate takes. Also a lot came out in the 80's. Janie hasn't done much.

  • @cooltooth112 I'm now 62, lol. Was 22 when Jimi died here in the UK and have never had much time for this Janie.

  • @cooltooth112 Definitely not gonna defend Janie, though Dagger Records does try to nod to the existence of hundreds of boot recordings out there, and makes a few of 'em "respectable" ;-) I misspoke when I said, " all the stuff that has surfaced last 41 years with Janie". I don't know why I put her in that sentence. She has thrown up all kinds of barriers. I guess once I learned to live with her corp. I just bought it and was glad to have it, ignore the BS. Sorry I mentioned her dumb ass...

  • @Cleofizoid I don't know anything about what is or may become available on Hendrix, but I doubt there is anything out there that is gonna surprise. I did like the song Valleys of Neptune(don't even remember the exact title, it's out in my car). I really thought that was a great song and recording. i loved the song due to the fact that it was a pretty much stripped down version and didn't have 4 or 5 guitar overdubs on it. i've reached the point that I like the raw versions of Henrix' songs.

  • @cooltooth112: agreed, I have all those titles and ' loose ends' and she had never even met Jimi , she is his 1/2 step sister or something and a gold digger. Alan Douglas was vilified in the 70's for releasing overdubs on "midnight lightning" etc but he was not like this Janie H. character. She is riding the gravy train.

  • Duff Hendrickson talked of eventually donating "Strange Day on Maui" to Seattle Art Museum, (not Experience Music Project), & absolutely not to Experience Janie Corporation. He had bad experience of the adopted half step-sister Janie in the 1990s, said she can't be trusted in business, even with a contract. Duff reportedly once called Janie a "Necrophiliac" feeding off remains of Jimi. Brother Leon Hendrix got screwed by Janie. Leon actually knew Jimi. Janie didn't really "know" Jimi.

  • The film used here is lifted from Duff Hendrickson's 1970 underground-experimental film Strange Day on Maui, probably from an old VHS multi-generation tape, a copy of a copy. Duff lives in Seattle & still has 16mm original film. He has a better tape Beta-SP copy mastered by the BBC more than 10 years ago, and had that transferred to digital files. He wants to have the film restored and high-quality scanned to Hi-Def Progressive digital to preserve it. That is an expensive process.

  • billy was just HEAVEN SENT on the bass man!

  • This a reminder that we are ALSO talking about the best RHYTHM guitarist ever. What a groove!! At 2:00, they got that groove going with a sunset in the background, and the silhouette of two dancing girls with their hair blowing in the Hawaii wind. Seems like absolute magic. Just another "day at the office" for Jimi would be a highlight for most of our lives.

This makes today's music look like wallpaper in comparison.

  • He didnt have "sex" with it.. he made sweeeet Looove to it. lol

  • @MuSiClOvEdRuGsHuGs nah....he f*cked it hard

  • my God what a fabolous bass grove

  • For me, 'Message to Love' is the best song ever, next to 'Bold as Love'.

  • Jimi and mitch are tight as hell on that break / solo

  • @1Gsxrider they were very tight together, the onl 2 other guitarist

and drummer that just as tight or even more would have to be

    edward and alex van halen.

  • Super Lemon Haze... all in my brain...

And this song... just doesnt seem the same...

Acting funny... But i dont know why...

Excuse me as i kiss the sky

    ahahahahahhahahahahahhahahh LEGALIZE WEEEEED ahahahah XD

    LMAO

  • @LuciferWasAnAtheist Lol! That comment accurately showed the bliss felt while listening to Hendrix on Weed.

  • @StratoBlaster420 Orange bud... all in my lungs...

and i feel... so so happy and young...

    to nirvana... that's a bridge...

excuse me as i raid my fridge

lol this orange bud completely melted my mind

    BLESS JAH

    LEGALIZE IT

  • @LuciferWasAnAtheist Hahahaha very nice.

  • @StratoBlaster420 come on, let me see what you can do :)

  • @LuciferWasAnAtheist Haha, I'm not stoned enough right now... but I'll try

Purple kush... knockin' me off my tush...

now I know what they meant by burning bush...

actin' chill but I don't know why...

excuse me as I yell LEGALIZE!

...dun dun dun, da dun dun dun, da dun dun dun!

    hahahaha

  • @StratoBlaster420 so here i am, 6:50AM, woke up 5 minutes ago with the only purpose to smoke this giant spliff i just smoked to inspire me, but since i'm almost tripping and colours are changing i'd say you'll have to wait XD

  • 3:48... id be frightened to death if people were staring at me when i knows their stoned out of it. they look like their mezmerised

  • @TheSnarlingbunny Haha. Knowing Jimi he was probably digging it so much seeing the faces of all those beautiful hippie ladies as their minds get blown into the cosmos.

  • interesting early "CGI" in this vid!

    ...and put to good use!

  • @ScottEmmons today's tecnology exists because of him, he's the father of all this!!!

  • The best song ever, all versions of it Jimi played! The question is, "Will I ever know the chords to thi riff?" I don't even know what key it's in! And yes, by the way, I do suck and I know it, sadly.....

  • how can you not like any footage of jimi be it good ,bad or ugly he was definitly a gift from god and will surpass nearly all the other musicians of all time

  • Psychedelic film from Strange Day on maui _ 1970 Duff Hendrickson

  • Comment removed

  • @rock1020 ......is a cock-face.

  • paolo1270@yahoo.fr

  • ..the God himself!!!! Enjoy his majesty!!!!

  • In 2000 years if mankind is still alive this genius with the guitar will be hailed as the new Jesus Christ, personally I see him as that now. He had a message so good and pure.

  • @StratoBlaster420

i'm certain there at least great smoking' buddies!!!(0_0)

  • i wish i could of heard hendrix live till the 70's with all that fusion and elecricity, the new renaisannce, that would of been very interesting

  • THE PROPHET !!!!

  • Just imagine if he had today's technology.....scary!

  • @ScottEmmonsMusic this is about as real as it gets. no digital crap. its all analog with the real-deal electricity machines without the extra fakeness of digital. digital sucks

  • @ScottEmmonsMusic

Jimi just need guitar, cable, amp and a microphone. (and few pedals),fuck todays music "technology"

  • this version is dope

  • Either hendrix was shit loud or at the end the crowd didn't applause much xD

  • I'd say they were blown the fuck away lol

Humans weren't made to take drugs AND listen to this gold. Its like the peaking of heaven.

  • @RastafariPoet I read this and it made me think to myself...What a god damn terrible comment. Then I read the name of who posted it...things all made sense. People, People , People ... Humans were MADE to take drugs...

  • @JimmyPage97

Jesus.. you really have nothing to do other than bother me, don't you? That comment was sarcasm. Thats why I added "Its the peaking of heaven". Peace

  • @RastafariPoet Nope. I think I told you my reason already though.

  • @neo14085 I recken they were all just high :P

  • @neo14085 I know I thought the same thing. I think people back then didn't really know what to do with this kind of music. Especially after all that breakdown and those crazy noises. I mean you see no one was really dancing or anything.

  • @JimmyPage97 Yeah probably, but i always found Message of love had this really bouncy groove to it.

  • @neo14085 yeah totally...I think almost all hendrix's tunes have an awesome groove to them.

  • @JimmyPage97 I'm struggling to think of a song which actually has a "weak groove"... hm, thanks for correcting me... Probably a few of his Electric Ladyland albums were a bit "grooveless" due to Hendrix inventing the "butterfly picking" such as Little wing and Castles Made Of Sand. I don't know if you agree. Sorry to keep replying, just manners. lol.

  • @neo14085 Yeah I wasn't trying to correct you, I was just expanding on what I said i guess. I think Castles Made of Sand and Little Wing still have a heavy groove in parts. He seems to leave a like sections were he plays little melodies and things, but a lot seems based on a groove. I think he was really into Little Richard and stuff like that you know.

  • @JimmyPage97 I beleive he was a backup player for little richard

  • @roberthahn2001 yeah I heard that too...really doesn't surprise me

  • respect !

  • i dont think hendrix played his guitar as much as he had sex with it on stage

  • fuckin stupid...

  • @dbBosco1 whats the difference?

  • all of you who posted are fucking amazing

  • @jimijames13 We love you to !!

  • Practically all musicians from the 60s and 70s were 'one offs'. They were born right after the war; they'd never known real strife, so they could become trippy and peace ridden, wanting an alternative and making the best, experimental music = perfection :)

  • You can spend the rest of your life trying to be this funky and far out - AND YOU WILL ALWAYS FALL WAY SHORT.

Trust me - I've tried for twenty years.

He must have had a special "groove gland" or something.

Like the hippies at 3:23, you can't help but bop along. (Hard to believe those young folks are 60 years old now)

  • his lyrics were so amazing too.....

  • there can never be any one to replace Jimi, he was a 1 off.Waayyyyyyyy before his time.Way before anybodies time. I'm sure this guy way guided by some kinda Cherokee spirit from out in the cosmos that centered into him when he picked up the guitar. The sounds that come out are just something else.incredible.

  • I think it was his mother. I mean he did get his first guitar the same age as of which she died I believe.

  • the ending sounds like a universe sliding out of existence

  • @chugza The universe slide out of control when hendrix decided he was going to be the best and picked up that guitar.

  • @chugza That's a fucking brilliant observation. And I mean that without a shred of sarcasm.

  • @chugza It is isnt it?

  • JIMI LIVES! FOREVER

  • he was on fire on the Rainbow Bridge concert just outta this world especially with Hey Baby

  • we sure have made quite a bit of progress as far as editing technology goes, it's funny to see this, zooms and overlapping images, hi tech for early 70s!

  • windows movie maker doesnt even have some of the effects in this video

  • I don't consider windows movie maker legit editing software.

This was done by pros back in the day, shoot go out and buy final cut pro and you can make something alot more advanced than this, and thats not even the best software available.

  • The best version of this tune is at the Filmore East New York, 1969-1970 New Year eve. They were the Band of Gypsys. Great rock and dramatic sound.

  • agreed.

  • I love this song.

  • This is relaxed Jimi

  • i just love hendrix

  • To me, the very first lyric, means that he is excited and enthusastic because he is reborn, and he spreads messages of love to people reflected from things in the world.

  • I am what I am , Thank God

  • some people just dont stand !!!! Hendrix = My God

  • Maybe it's stupid to comment this but I never saw any bad criticism for Jimi Hendrix in any video of him on a youtube, and that is exceptation...

  • The reason no one ever says anything negative of Hendrix is because every note bursting from his guitar is the masterstroke of an artist caressing the sweet phrases of delight that only he could utter, like the gentle whisper of a breeze on a summer's day....

  • Right on man. Great description!

  • i like the isle of wight one best

  • much better than woodstock´s version

  • every version is good man ... just different

  • you should all watch 'rainbow bridge' the documentary of the hippy commune that hosted this concert and filmed it

  • Own it. They're kinda trippy those hippies. Those are next level hippies I'd say..

  • "space people"!

  • woodstock's message of love was way better imo.

  • i agree

  • this video is far out

  • Finally someone posted this.

    YEAH!!!!!!!

  • I don't understand why this song isn't that famous as his other famous songs...

  • Agreed.

  • It was Duff Hendrickson who made the 16mm film

"Strange Day on Maui" in 1970. He was a student at Maui Community College and working in the Solar Observatory ontop Haleakala Crater.

  • the filmore east version was the muts nuts.

  • Okay, some of you need to read a little about Jimi before commenting on the "effects in the video".It's your opinion and that's cool but remeber that this was the only way the original film shot on 8mm could be released. This was stipulated by who else....Mike Jeffery. He had the right for filming due to Rainbow Bridge being shot obviously at the same time! The 8mm film was shot as an "art" project which is why they allowed him(forgot the guys name)to setup near the stage.

  • One thing i need to point out:

This was one audience in synch with Jimi.

Every one of those attending that day were THERE, completely. Jimi sensed it. That was one happy day for all present.

  • Were they the people who did the Tate murders at 3:24?

  • what a strange video^^

    but a very good version

but in my opinion is the woodstock better^^

  • man i would love to play this song but i just cant find any tabs 4 it.

  • hmm...do you think jimi looked after tabs? dude, my advice listen to the song 1000's of times until you know the melody by ear and then play it! :)

  • if you got guitar pro you can find it live from fillmore east

  • The Berkeley version has a better sound quality, this is cool..

  • yeah ..they should have had a sober camera man / film editor ...leave the trippy stuff up to Jimi and the gang ...kinda like trying to touch up a great work of art /painting ...should have left well enough alone....anyways great tune..and its still JIMI ...

  • hate the way they edited these videos, the remastered japan release is 200$ I think?

  • They must have hired the same camera crew/editor as the Berkeley/Albert Hall concerts. Watch the video and you'll know what I am talking about.

  • it's sad man. there should always be one camera capturing both of Jimi's hands.

  • no shit dude, thats how it needed to be, sadly enough it isnt :(

  • heres the thing jimi doesnt goes through the motions..ok now time to solo and show off this was desperation vulnerability mortality one chance technique? academics? well u dont know anything except for western concepts u r ignorant but thats ok take the time to listen to other music besides your own little world give your soul a chance

technique and theory dont mean shit if u dont mean it this aint mathematics its art

  • Holy shit. Use some punctuation for starters. You make no sense. You contradict yourself, like... 5 times.

  • my man! which came first nine to the universe or message to love?

  • i love jimi i love the sky and clouds

  • i like the isle of wight one best

  • Then you probably didn't hear Berkeley version.

  • My goodness - that is funky!! Just like the hippies at the end, I can't help but bop my head along. He must have had a special groove gland or something. Music today seems like wallpaper compared to this. I was born in 1965, so I missed out when this all was happening. (Going to college in the 80's sucked)

Talk about immortality - its like he's still here. Weird.

  • born in 65? I feel sorry for all you youngins. I am from the 50's and I am still out there shakeing it

  • play on brother Jimi, you always did like us indians! ty

  • How the hell can that bother you? Playing in Eb instead of E is no different from playing in F instead of E.

Do you only like the key of E?

  • Rainbow Bridge. Beautiful.

  • I hope when I die, I'll meet Jimi, and thank him.

  • Thank him for me too.

  • i never cease learning from hendrix. the biz has turned everything into a formula. where are the visionaries when you really need one?

  • Dead, Hendrix is a one-off

  • " May I help all beings, and if I ever tire in this great work, may my body be shattered into a thousand pieces." -Prayer of Avalokiteshvara. In spite of all his efforts, he was shattered into a thousand pieces. But the Buddhas came from throughout the universe to restore him and made him whole again. But now he has eleven heads and a thousand arms and a thousand eyes of wisdom. He is the Tibetan Buddha of Compassion. OM MANI PADME HUM HRIH

  • Whre did you find this QuinnTB?

  • rap sucks

  • My favorite Hendrix song, right here.

  • by the way...

i travel at the speed of a reborn man

i've got a lot of love to give...

  • Every generations music is different. I try not to knock other forms of music, but I'm into "MUSICIANS" and singing. It doesn't matter the style but if you can blow or play go for it. But there's more to life than jewely,24's and chicken heads !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Stop talking about rap, this aint rap, rap is crap and should never be compared to hendrix

  • For those of you who listen to "RAP-CRAP" (Hip-Hop) " IF BRAINS WERE MADE OUT OF COTTON-SEED, YOU WOULD'NT HAVE ENOUGH TO KOTEX A FLEA" ..... NIT-WITS

  • hip-hop is the shit man
