@VOICEofTRNC Yea, you have to take the skin off first, in dishes like this. There are a few Italian dishes that are made with chicken legs sticking straight up out of the mixture. De-skinned, of course.
can you make a rice and mushrooms casserole? I like rice but I'm so bored of the plain flavour I don't know what else could I do with it to taste good...it's annoying really...
I'm a first time viewer, but I noticed you don't always give the measurement of the ingredients used. I still enjoyed the video and will continue to watch. Thanks!!!
Looks really, really nice, as a butcher I will give you one tip- for the drunsticks: trim around 1 1/2 inch from the bottom of the drum stick, this will remove the tendons and tenderise the meat. Also making it easier to eat and looks very presentable.
That's awesome! Now and then, my Mum makes something like this, but when she serves it, she gets this big pan and flips the pot on it to make it into a cool shape (You know, like what you do with custard soemtimes). Anyways...We would have this game when we eat, and we would all put our own rice, but the first one to make the rice get out of it's original shape has to clean the dishes that night lol. Whoever reads this should definatley try it. Remember, don't knock till you try it. =]
I really like the explanations that you give in passing. Like, I had no idea red peppers were sweet and green peppers were bitter. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish :)
@mydog8u2 Green peppers are just an unripe pepper....Peppers go from green to orange, to red. Green peppers are also harder to digest than the redder ones.
i was born in puerto rico :D and the famous dish there is rice bean and fried chicken or roasted chicken or in spanish arroz habichuella pollo frito or pollo asado <-- the best :D
Check out my channel for my Arroz con pollo remix ( I used spinach) and its really easy and fast to make. I am a college student so I need quick meals that remind me of home.
this is my favorite dish of all time i wish there were more Puerto Rican restauraunts in california, every time i visit my family on the east coast i always hit up as many puerto rican and dominican restaurants as possible.
Hi john i made this today instead using middle eastern spices ( kabsa) and used a steam pot on the stove. It was awesome needed extra salr but overall delicious! Thanks!!
thanks... this recipe looks great and I could definitely make it for friends, but I don't eat chicken and I'm wondering if fish could be substituted at all? Do you think this would work? Thanks!
yea i think Fish would be a great and healthy substitute for Chicken(: but i think the sauce needs to be slightly changed for the fish like a tad zestier. Bahh, what am i doing. Ask chef john(:
I made this yesterday and it was really. I would suggest though to include the water from delglazing as a part of the total stock used in the recipe.
BTW, I don't know what he means by one onion b/c his amount seems small. I used one big whole onion, 16/17 pices of thigh meat and 3 cups of rice, increase the stock 1 1/2 & the rest of the ingredients to 1 1/2 times.
Using a bottle, I grind pepper corn on the cutting board, first inside aluminum foil, then directly on it.
my sis in law had a personal recipe with pork and very similar way of cooking but she didn't fry the veggies nor that much spices. am so gonna try this one.
btw, can you make some fast to cook christmas dinner for beginners? would love to present some to my in laws! thks.
The Fahrenheits sometimes screw me up, but I´ve always loved maths :) 370 F° minus 37 equals 332, times 5 equals 1660, divided by 9 equals 184,44 °C :) Easy!
About conversion from Fahrenheit to Celcius, just go to your old friend Google. Type in "370 F in C", and it calculates it for you. Google can calculate almost anything.
Chef john is it going to be ok if i dont have to continue cooking this dish in an oven? we dont have oven yet :( and i really want to try this for christmas. please help me :) thanks :)
It is absolutely fine. In fact, it comes out better just done over the stove. Just cover the rice with ½ inch of the liquids, (water, or stock) bring to a boil, and as soon as it start boiling set the flame to low, (Flame should be about 1/4 of an inch over the burner surface) and stir the rice until is loose, then add the chicken. Cover it and let it cook for 20 minutes, after that, turn the rice with the chicken once and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
Just sitting back after enjoying this meal. I ended up skipping the olives and capers (don't care for olives, couldn't find my capers). Excellent. I love the flavors. I also like the little spice kick to it. Thanks!
