Seven seasons over .300, only modest power at best, and a weak throwing arm keep him out of the top 10 position players of all time. Maybe he is in the top 20 with his speed. If henderson did steroids, his body would be breaking down by now. Look at all the old bodybuilders. They're all dead or in wheelchairs except for Arnold, who's basically put together by plastic and orthopedic surgeons. McGwire and Canseco all have had surgeries just to be able to walk on their own these days I believe. Rickey's still very fit for his age.
Its impossible to prove Canseco's wrong because anyone who hasn't been found out could just be using undetectable steroids.

I agree that Bonds was one of the best, but you cannot deny the asterisk. McGwire was one of my all time favorites, but I don't believe he belongs in the hall. He does get a lot of credit for bringing baseball back. He was an exciting and classy player. Too bad everyone used steroids.

Rickey Henderson had far more positive impact on a game than Bonds could ever dream of having which is exactly why Rickey is a greater player than Bonds. Greatness is what you do in baseball's biggest games. Just take a look at Bonds' post season numbers compared to Henderson and you'll have your answer. Even Barry Bonds himself knows he wasn't the player Rickey was, which plays into Bonds' bitter personality traits.

I agree with you 100 percent on Rickeys' numbers pre-1993. His speed, and skill were huge. At the same time, I think a couple of those guys batting behind him had alot to do with his his numbers ala late 80's Jose. Aside from post season it isn't even a contest. In all do respect that's like people talking about Babe Ruths' numbers when he was an overall talent facing guys that smoked 2 packs a day and were farmers on the pitchers mound.

Postseason pre93 I agree. However if you take late 80s' Rickey, who along with Jose, and Big Mac, were huge in those great A's teams. Individually however Bonds '02 postseason ranks among the best ever, and since '90 Bonds was arguably the best player ever. Whatever Barry put in his veins, doesn't matter since if you remember correctly take a look at those early 90's A's and they were more ripped then some NFL Players

Rickey Henderson is my favorite baseball player of all-time but, I am not going to short change Bonds in his favor.

Daytrade, NO. Rickey Henderson's 1989 postseason ranks far greater than Bonds' 2002 postseason considering Rickey led his team to a championship, something Bonds has NEVER done. I'm not going to short change Bonds. He was the biggest cancer to ever play the game. Barry put himself ahead of his team. Barry dictated when he played, how hard he played, and if the sun was out after a night game, Barry didn't play at all. So please don't tell me about Bonds' greatness.

Rickey Henderson 1989 (.441avg, 3HR, 8RBI, 11SB, 1.489OPS)
Barry Bonds 2002 (.365avg, 8HR, 16RBI[postseason record], 27BB [postseason record], 1.710OPS [postseason record]) He also had three walk-off which are also postseason records.
The proof is in the pudding. Baseball is a team sport and players are less measured by championships that football of basketball so Rickey winning is irrelevant.

Like I said statistically arguably the greatest post-season by any one player. Even Willie Mays and Reggie Jackson stated so last year at the legends game during the All-Star break.

You might know the numbers but you sure don't know championship caliber play. I was just curious, what statistical category do I look under in regards to game 1 of the '89 ALCS when Rickey made the key play in a 2-2 tie, breaking up a double play and forcing a throwing error that led to a 7-3 victory? Where do I find that "stat". How do I measure players like Canseco and McGwire sitting dead read on 1-2 fastballs because Rickey is on first base and the pitcher needs to get the ball out quickly.

Only thing of relevance!? They had two of the hottest pitchers coming into the playoffs and one of the best lineups. Basketball is a team game but, one or two great can dominate a game and effect the outcome more than in baseball. In football schemes and individual players effect the game more too. Nut hugger? Dude please stop with the personal attacks. You do not know me. And my all-time favorite players are Rickey Henderson, Griffey Jr. and Lance Berkman but, I do not hate on Barry.

There's more to being a great player than sticking a needle in your ass and hitting HR's. Intangibles. Let me ask you a question, how is it that the San Francisco Giants had a better overall record the year AFTER they dumped Bonds than the previous year with Bonds in the lineup? How? Because he was a chemistry killer. A cancer. Great players make the players around them better, that's what Rickey did as a lead off hitter. Bonds distanced himself from everyone.

Did you think of that one on your own. It is common knowledge (see the federal affidavit) that Bonds used the cream and clear from 2001 to 2003 and then he stopped. If we take away those numbers he is still statistically one of the three greatest players of all-time (Ruth and Mays). To say Bonds was simply a homerun hitter is showing a bit of ignorance on your part. Granted he is not high on the intangible list unless you count hitting behind Kent and making him an MVP as an intangible.

Oh and since you are talking about the Giants record lets look at those numbers as well. In the 35 years before Barry came to San Francisco the Giants won 1 pennant and went to the playoffs 3 times. After Barry over a 6 year period starting in 1997 they won a pennant, won 3 division tittles, a wild card berth and went to the playoffs 5 times. Since he left zero. I guess he had nothing to do with that success though since he did not make his team better.

I have a question. If you take away those numbers from 2001 to 2003, who becomes the the all time leader in base on balls?
