Randy lives in San Pedro.Looking very rough.I tried helping him get his vehicle running again. He was gracious to me.Randy gave me 3 hand written poems that are remarkable.
this dude shreds on guitar, chick ain't bad either. Everytime I check this video I get blown away. Too bad nothing happened with them, huge waste of talent.
What could 5 people have possibly not liked about this video of one of the catchiest songs of all time...this riff has stayed in my head for over 20 years or more and I just wish I could stumble into my local watering-hole and hear a band one-tenth as good and passionate as these guys are...if you don't like real music why did you even watch in the first place? Total LOSERS! Justin Dweeber is calling...
I just met Randy on the street here in San Pedro today....he is intense, passionate& warm human being....he talked about conspiracy theories that made me believe...Viva Randy!
Amazing players, is that girl for real on bass? she hangs note for note with the guitar player, Surprising but probably shouldn't be. This track is very underrated. What happened too them?
I went to the record store and randomly picked up an Alley Cats CD. I had never even heard of them before, and they were buried under a huge pile in the "Used Rock" section. I can't believe I found these guys on a whim, I'm blown away.
The Whiskey. Go-Go's, Oingo Boingo and the Surf Punks also played this gig. Love the banjo thumbpick and Randy's tasty solo. Another good song by AC "Too much junk". They later became "The Zarkons" with a cool song called "There's a hole in me" where my heart used to be..... xlnt memories!!!
There aren't any tabs on the internet(that I know of) but you could try by ear. It is in the key of C minor. The notes are C, D#, F, F#, and C again. Hope that helps.
Hmmm... 1981 or maybe '82 - at the Lawrence Opera House, Lawrence, Ks, soaking up beer waiting to hear 999 and Alley Cats came out to open the show... INCREDIBLE! A fan ever since! 999 was awesome too, invited us up on stage to dance around during the encore... it was the second time I saw them and this time I wasn't too uptight and ended up right next to Nick Cash!
I am AGREE!!!! Why they were not bigger....ufff they were sooo great, and agree too with "They were not a typically punk band" I LOVE THAT GIRL PLAYING THE BASS : )
God was she hot. Not sure why these guys never crossed over to bigger things. They were not your typical punk band and she was so great looking. Seems like some A&R guys would have at least signed her to a contract.
man does anyone know where i can get some info on this band? all i know is that they wre based in LA and under dangerhouse records. love the song "give me a little pain" and i wanna find some more.
they just issued a ten song retrospective cd with a live dvd. you can find it on itunes or rhapsody, so it should be pretty easy to find elsewhere. you may have to search a little tho.
The greatest power punk trio ever. From their super, super, tight cover of the Stones "Under my Thumb" to their raucous cover of "Summertime Blues" to unbelieveable originals like "Licorice Cats" (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG EVER)and "Angel Dust".
I still get goose bumps when I hear this song.....
One of the hardest working bands from the late 70's/early 80's. From traveling cross country in their International Travelall, to passing out fliers for their gigs in front of the Whisky. To top it of, they were super cool people.
3 piece bands like Green Day and Blink wouldn't be around if it wasn't for the Alley Cats.
They look like they did years ago...I saw them for the first time at the Whisky in '77...then followed them...great band...even David Byrne of the Talking Heads said they were great...he sat next to me at Madamme Wong's catching one of the shows they did. John was a jazz drummer, who fell into the gig. Chai was always great looking in her mini's and stilleto's, and Randy...what awesome guitar work...they should put that one on guitar hero.
one of the greatest bands Class of 77 LA punk Rock rules! To bad no one can find Randy. It would of been great if they played the 30 yr Masque show. I still have there first single ans LP. Wish I got the 2nd release. oh those regrets.
I have not seen this video in 20+ years .... it brings me right back. Awesome! I have no idea what the lyrics are (iTunes says they are "explicit") ... can anyone post the lyrics?
watching this band on Urgh! a music war late @night in my small ass town, made me want more than my little town could ever give me ! long live the Alley Cats.....meeeow
Saw this band many times back in 77-80. One of the coolest, hardest playing and nicest bands on the scene at the time. Deserved way more success than they got.
what a fun fucking band. they were an unsung CA punk same as the Eyes, Pink Section, The C.M.s, etc. remember when music was just... FUN? (I don't; I was born too late)
bout F-ing time; great drums, bass, and guitar from a band that went quickly nowhere. Hopefully they can get some overdue attention. Great poppunksurf band when there were no poppunksurf bands. Why can't i find the alleycats CDs anywhere .. or diane chai?
Alley Cats are one of (if not THE) unsung bands from this era. Black Haired Girl is another (and this song is great too) bad ass song that only the cognisenti know of.
We all need to combine our efforts and protest against SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA. They're trying to take away our music video privileges.

Lyrics pt1
Nothing means nothing anymore
So close your eyes child and lie on the floor
And pretend what you feel is really real
And know what is real is what you feel
Outside the night sings to the summer rain
They had a child and she named him Pain
He lost his life hanging around twenty-two
Strange, he looks so much like you

Lyrics pt2:
So close your eyes, pretty country child
Outside the lights are bright and the night is wild
Out there you're just a straw floating in the wind
Come in here pretty child and do it again
Little chickens and their chicken hawks
They're going to teach you a brand new way to walk
When you stare at the moon, your eyes will be hard and cold
You'll live your life trying never to grow old
