  • That remembered me the coach from Rocky, COME ON U BUM!

  • bahaha i thought that was a nun!

  • from the thumbnail i was like... is that a nun doing overhead press?

  • that coach is probably a fucking beast

  • I clicked on this video because the pic looked like a nun was about to do ATG

  • @captainkunty

That's funny... I thought that was a nun, too!

  • Did he say "That'll keep you regular" at the end of the video?

  • @DonnyBaker45

"Thats getting better lad" I think? not sure.

  • YOUZ A BUM, ROCK!

  • that's a push press

  • @LRMMcDonnell How you think strongmen do OHP?

  • Haha!

That coach is a PROPER northener.

Like the late Fred Dibnah, flat caps, pies, brown sauce and real ale.

  • i watched all these videos just to catch a glimpse of that old guy.... he knows how to coach

  • This is probably an old well answered question but who's the coach?

  • are those hundreds!??! wtf

  • @ashoka22 of course they arent. that would mean hes throwin 400 over his head like its nothin. not even the best super heavy weight oly lifters can do that, and they are the kings of overhead strength

  • I want to have a coach like that.

  • @TurkishHardcore me too, but it would be funny looking when skinny dude pressing 40 kgs has a coach :P

  • mark felix thoughts: "i will eat you for dessert grandy"

  • Coach is hilarious, but that's a Push Press.

  • Let's keep this simple are you a big lifter ? My guess is you like to talk about training and weights but in reality your unable to take your theories and turn them into actual results in the gym . If you can't turn your theories into actual big lifts why would we give your theories the time of day ? So it's simple either post a vid of your big lifts or except that you know very little about developing raw strength.

  • Jamesflames or James flaming annoying u talk a about what your dad did but what can u do ??????????? other than come across as a complete ass. I'm willing to bet you have the raw power of a small family pet. But hay atleast you can talk about big lifts LOL

  • @jamesflames75 Cool! I been training for over 22 years now.I went through my trial&error in fitness training.

I will have me some innovative bodyweight exercise's, that I created upload on here this summer.

It does start with the foundation building of your strength.Plyos just a good additions to help build that explosiveness that you need.

  • @jamesflames75 Yea! so how long you been into fitness?I add a bit of plyometric also! im working on a few project.one is for the bar/extreme fitness community and streetboxing. so i be adding strength, speed, agility, cardio and balance in my training.

  • @jamesflames75 Plyometrics are the element to train explosiveness and strengthen tendons and ligaments.

Strenght in another hand...You build that from heavy weight and low reps of 1 to 5 .James you do know what you talking about.

  • Strongman is better than olympic shit :P

    Thats only "Tecnic"....

Strongman is the real strength test ; - )

  • Why is he bouncing when he does this press? This isn't Olympic weight lifting, it matters which muscles you use when you do an exercise.

  • @Lythimus he isn't an olympic lifter, he is a strongman

  • I can't stop watching this

  • @jamesflames75 okay. due to the limited space in the comment box i will try to explain MY methods of developing speed and strength mainly in the deadlift since its the easiest. for my back workout day i usually start off with a brute strength movement like a shortend range of motion deadlift. seeing as the full dead with heavy weight taxes the nerves i do the movement from shin level in the rack because i am tall. i usually go between 6-700 pounds for that until it becomes slow. then move to

  • @jamesflames75 well first since i was the one who posted the original comment, you slap a video up of you doing your thing and proving me wrong seeing as how you have none, and i will post an updated video of me hitting elite lifts and my next strongman competition is in 2 weeks. when is yours?

  • 1:19 - THROW IT THROUGH ROOF!

  • Motivating coach.

  • the coach is alan

  • BANG...tidy!!

  • hes perfect for jersey shore fist pumping.

  • I think throw it through he roof means lock out shoulders and elbows overhead

  • @hellomynameis151 no, it literally means to visualize throwing it through the roof... you ever try to bench press a heavy load going slow? plyometrics is the key to super strength.

  • Does anyone know who this coach is? Hes awesome!

  • "throw it through roof!"

  • I did not know that Nate Dogg has this much power. =)

  • Lmao at the people questioning the fact that Felix has a coach. The same reason why every single great athlete has a coach. Because some people have more experience and can see what we are doing wrong from different angles. A football team is full of guys that know how to play football, that doesnt mean they can develop the best strategy by themselves. And oly lifter or powerlifter may not realize his is pulling from way too behind or that he is not using enough of this or that. We all need help

  • my new favorite strongman

  • That old guy remind me of Mickey (Rockys Trainer) from the Rocky films..

  • @jkd1984 lol you beat me to it!! i was jus about to say that. "GET UP YOU SON OVA BITCH!! LOL

  • The video title would be more accurate if it said push press, not just overhead press.

  • @sbowesuk - Well, thank you for clearing that for the rest of us. LOL

  • @sbowesuk - Thank you for your wizdom great sire! LOL

  • @isak00 Thanks, and nice double post ;P

  • @nazworkshop

Felix trains at Adlington Barbell Club, which that "skinny old guy" Alan Fairclough opened in 1957 and he use to be a olympic lifter himself...so he knows a thing or two. Always remember, as a athlete or person for that matter, you need to question yourself and what you are doing at all times, it's how you improve as a athlete and person.

  • @nazworkshop you can't see what you're doing when you're doing it, a coach can. that old guy probably has about 50 years of training experience behind him. just cause he's skinny now doesn't mean he's always been.

  • Reckon he's from my home county of Lancashire.

  • @nazworkshop Im asking the same question...

  • even though he looks like nothing now, I'd bet old dude was a beast back in the day.

  • This old man is awesome.

  • It's like mickey and Rocky!

  • this video is fucking awesome. the old coach is fucking genius and entertaining, wish I had him as a coach. "you gotta just bang it! just fuckin throw it through the roof!!!' lol, hes getting all into it about to bust a nut.

  • He lives it.

  • Now mark, how far can you swim ?

  • @DrumHeller47 LMFAO

  • da coach looks like a nun

  • "its speed like a poonch..."

  • "that's gettin' better lad!"

Hahaha, this guy should have his own show! I'd watch it.

  • "ryyte, put it through roof"

    Haha, I love that guy!

  • bet you that old guy could lift more than felix could ;)

  • mark felix is one of the strongest man in the world, but he can't beat koklyaev

  • He is a strong motherfucking-nigga from da motherfucking hood in BRONX

  • @loki04sw He's from England.

  • coach like mickey from rocky movie)))))

  • @ohhedison yeah! coach mickey rocks!

he´´s a irish motherfucker but anyway.....

  • Great Mark !!!

  • This vid is awesome. Beautiful example of wisdom and strength. Reminds me of Aristotle lecturing Alexander the Great. A lot of kids learn poor technique because they only listen to meat heads that dont know what they're talking about. A wise teacher cannot be replaced.

  • Thats a puch press :p

  • what a great coach!! thats getting better lad :)

  • he is saying mark needs to use his legs more not his arm to keep strength in his arms for when he is drained and the arms will need more power

  • great coach :)

  • Felix competes in strongman. Remember the press they do in strongman is actually a push press. Thats why the coach is saying "I don't want you pressing", meaning that he wants Felix to use his arms as much as he can so he can keep more energy. The weight used is heavy but its also about who can get more reps.

  • @ToquiGambit hmm... i believe he says he doesnt want to see him press because he doesnt want him to use his arms actually...

  • dude no bending the legs

  • that old guy isent even his coach! he is just some guy that got off the tredmill and started talking to mark!! lol!!

  • GO ON, PUT IT THROUGH'T ROOF

  • i bet that coach was jacked back in the day

  • Lol, i love that old guy, reminds me of an teacher of mine from a few years ago :D

  • micky from rocky? hmm

  • thanks for the video...my buddy and I are going to work overhead presses right now! :0D

  • i want that coach so badly.

  • bless him whos that?

  • bless him whos that?

  • Hahaha, this kinds of reminds me o Rocky, "Come on Rock" LoL...

  • lol da coach is great lol

  • from my experience bench will fluxtuate...but overhead shoulder strength stays man...I havent done it in awhile then i tried it a couple weeks ago...but i can max press 245 once...i weigh 203...started at under 135 you just have to be careful when doing such savage exercises

  • i love that coach but i have no idea what he is saying lol!!

  • fuckin love doing these feels so great

  • I do stricts and pops

  • either way ripptoe teaches overhead press this is push press

  • go yorkshire !!!!!

  • i love this coach

  • nice and curious coach xD

  • that old guy is awesome

  • Comment removed

  • tht old guy is class

  • If you look at Felix's lockout its obvious he is not comfortable in that position. No matter how hard he tries he really is not achieving a full lock out. This is indicative of a tight infraspinatus, long head of tricep and teres muscles group. He needs soft tissue work and stretching in those areas. Guarantee that will help greatly.

  • take a look at this video. See how comfortable the lifter is in full extension, how smoothly he enters that phase. Contrast it with felix and you can see felix clearly does not have adequate flexibility to perform the movement correctly. No amount of coaching will fix this, only soft tissue work and stretching in those areas.

  • i bet he still hasnt learned it properly

  • Is this superior to the strict press as taught by Rippetoe?

I don't no which to do push press or strict press.

  • lol so only rippetoe knows how to overhead press now huh?

  • damn right, he is the man

  • do them both dude. push is more technique/more weight, strict is less technique, less wieght, but more raw strength gain

  • strict press requires far more technique, particuarly getting the breath right because you don't have the advantage of "pushing off" with the legs.

  • If you think push presses won't build you massive shoulders you're hilarious. Look at any Olympic lifter. Any.

  • Did anyone else notice he never rests the bar on his chest? he like leaves it suspended in the air as he does the presses. Impressive.

  • not hatin but who is that old guy

  • hes called alan fairclough he got a world record when he was younger for weight lifting. i go to tht gym

  • No, he is just doing a push-press, whoever put the video up just named it wrong. and I don't think mark felix needs much help with form haha

  • Spot on. Remember that he's a strongman and not a bodybuilder

  • ye gud 1 horible form he'll always be skinny if he keeps training in that way...

  • LMFAO, that's just an awesome comment!

  • Skinny ?? wtf he is a strong man not a bodybuilder

  • your name is soybean!!

    i rest my case!

  • it is going on the floor, eventually, before that (when it's 2\3 up) it's going right in his head...

  • Jesus H Christ, is he actually using the suicide grip??????

  • Why would it matter on overhead press? if he drops it, its going on the floor, not on his chest...

  • Was that Mickey from the Rocky movies :) I saw Mark Felix at Mohegan Sun casino in 2007 doing strongman. His hands are huge. Just a huge guy.

  • I want that old man to coach me.

  • i no this isnt percious but thats like friggn 250lbs

  • The old dude is telling him right.Push press is all about bar speed and quick leg drive.

  • Nice thumbless grip.

  • This is different than bench pressing, you actually want to be using a thumbless grip.

Perhaps you werent trying to be smart and I read it wrong.

  • I love Mark's Old School coach

  • this old dude is awesome

  • the old guy is funny^^

  • why does everyone feel like they have to comment on bad form, etc on these types of videos? that dude thats teaching him is as old as the hills so he probable knows what he is on about!

  • finally one person who gets it....people come in here and get jealous that someone can put 250 over their head for reps so they whine about form

  • all round is probably the strongest man in the world

  • one of them any way.

  • thats a push press

    not an overhead press

  • This is technically a push press,I'm not sure how much that actually matters to mark, his coach & anybody here though. It also looks as if he needs to lock out fully at the top. I'm not bad mouthing though, just constructive criticism.

  • why would he lock out in training?

  • Are you serious? Why would he not lock out in training? Apart from the fact it only takes a little more effort from the triceps it's also teaching bad habit for strong man & competitions alike, even though they're not too strict with the rules, basically it's not finishing a lift.

  • because locking out puts unneeded pressure on the joints and takes tension off of the muscle. Avoiding injury at 43 is an absolute must.

  • u dont have to lock out it only puts extra stress on the joints. if you are lokking to build muscle it is better that u put contious tension on the muscle. just short of lock out is all that is needed. u can lock out if u want.

  • turn off the sound and watch the first like half. haha

  • technic like Mariusz Pudzianowski

  • super man

  • One thing the coach didn't notice is that Mark was using a false grip. I wouldn't advocate that, especially pressing overhead. The strength of this man though is most impressive.

  • Read all the comments before posting ;-)

  • marks a fukin silverback,awesome back strenght

  • He's a great coach - Mark is lucky to have him!

  • wow this is the first time ive seen marks new coach. i heard that he is shit cause he has never experienced a strongman lift . but dam he does know what he is talking about . good work mark 10/10

  • dont know who thinks the coach is shit cause at the club there are people lifting 400 over there head but the coach did 380 over his head 40 years ago the coach is 73

  • Damn right, Mariusz Pudzianowski push presses over 405 lbs. for a max.

  • Just to set the record straight, the coach has experience in all areas of strength work, including strongman, there is in fact a photo on the gym wall of him doing an axel lift sometime in the late 50's. End of the day the guys he coaches improve no matter what their field, speaks for itself really...

  • HAHA yeah buddy!! love the coach man.. reminds me of Rocky! que "eye of the tiger" someone!!

love it!! gotta get me a coach like that man!!

GO MArk!! if only you started competing 20 years ago man!! you would've 10 titles by now!!

still my fav though.. much respect,

  • Yeah he warms me heart.

  • Mark felix is a fucking animal, especially at the deadlift.

  • Respect to both the lifter and the coach. Plus the coaches accent is brilliant, takes me back to my roots!

  • За него болею.

  • @Findexer99 a kakzhe koklayev? :[[

  • that coach is so cool...i wish he was my coach

  • 1, Mark now wraps his thumbs around the bar, that was one of the first things 'super grandad' sorted out.

2, If you said something like that to coach Alan at Adlington you wouldn't last 2 minutes there. Learn some respect!

  • The only way anybody'll get brained in our club is if they piss Coach Alan off once too often!

  • This video was posted december 2007, over 4 months have passed and alans coaching ability is plain to see in the way Mark does overhead work at the moment.

Results speak for themselves, like andylittler said Mark is not the only top level strength athlete that trains at Adlington and gets coaching from the man.

Watch out for Mark at the britains strongest man!

  • Show a bit of respect hey mate. That old fella pressed 142K C&J 175K and did a front sqt of 227K @90K 40 years ago. The lifters he has produced have turned out press 145K snatch 145K C&J 182K sqt 372K bench 260K dead 400K to say the least. He has been turning out top level lifters across all disciplines for 50 years. Either take a backward step and a deep breath or come out from the safety of your keyboard and down to HIS gym and tell him where to stand in person. Mon, Wed or Fri. I dare you :)

  • Clegg=OL/PL. Felix=SM. Completely different things. They both know that. Are you sure Mark Clegg is your brother? He has a PB dead of 292 done last week, and as for injury... utter rubbish. He's in the form of his life. In the last couple of weeks I've seen him sqt 300 bench 180 and dead 290 first hand. He also push jerked 210 last week. No sign of any injury. Hmmmmmmmmm?????

  • I like Marius but I honestly think Mark Felix is stronger, he just needs the technique down and he can be world champion, he also needs to be more aggressive at the bar, he is such a nice guy and always smiling, what a guy.

  • I always love listening to the old school coaches! Some great pearls of wisdom!

  • actually if you watch olympic clean the bring the elbows down before the jerk. At least some do.

  • damn that looked heavy the bar was bending

great job mark!! keep 'em comin!

  • awesome coach. how heavy is that 120k?????

  • Looks either 120 or 130k, heavy anyway :)

  • Mark Felix could be a contender for marius's crowm, shame he didnt get into strong man earlier age might beat him.Great athlete got all the right tools to be a champ..

  • Great coaching, GOD BLESS

  • Excellent advice. He still needs to jerk it higher.H should barely b using his arms.

  • Great coaching.....200 kilos in no time!
