  • wow. I think this is one of her best performances! my other favorite is when she does this song on Ed Sullivan with everybody sitting around her.

  • she will always be the high priestess to mankind. No one could change that!

  • Love this song, sadly it took me 3 weeks to find it. Watched her on the Johnny Cash show. Anyone know where I can get a better quality of this song, please let me know? ^_^

  • @serpentorch Hey, sorry it took so long to find it. I just went in and expanded the tags. Back when I uploaded this, I had no idea what I was doing. Do me a favor, if you find a cleaner copy will you pass it along to me?

    Thanks

    abargle

  • She was out there putting her heart & soul into her performance. A rarity.

  • it's not just her in genuis beyond one of a kind voice. it's her music as well. her comopositions to man kind .i don't think, rather i know no one on this planet or others has written more songs then the genuis melanie safka.it's so amazing how many of her songs were used in movies, commercials, etc and still continue to this very day . i don't think she's famous she's beyond famous. oh not to mention how many of her songs became hits . how many other singers have tried to cover her songs, cheers

  • Melanie's sincerity and optimism reflected a big part of the youth of the 60's. Her music was probably a little too innocent for the cynical turn things took after Woodstock.

  • hhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy loooook at alice and oscar

  • Thank you so much for taking me back to a happier time

  • Very unique voice, forceful, lively, natural, and faintly quivering.

  • the joplin of folk,,,, all heart

  • brilliant the one and only high priestess !queen of music

  • person below or above she was beyond big in her day are you kidding me she put aside the beatles jefferson airplane strship etc from that era she was named the high priestess the first flower child hippie who are you kidding? female singer of the year 1971 it gioes on and on singers trying to sound like her oh my god it goes on and on

  • @1955c I know I shake my head in wonder when people ask why she wasn't a bigger star. SHE WAS A HUGE STAR. I mean look at the hits on her videos decades later in the hundreds of thousands. Her Lay Down is one of the all time best songs ever.

  • As I remember, Rolling Stone gave Photograph a great review.

  • I remember that she was not well liked by the music critics in the day. What the hell did they know?

  • Unfortunately peace is fleeting as war is big business. Great song and a great woman!

  • what a fantastic show ! I'd like to have same now !! Johnny Cash was so nice with his guets and Melanie is so talented

  • Supercalafraglistickxpealadochus

what a super talent this girl is.

and she was super good looking

  • Have listened to her songs for over 30 years.....so great to see live performances of some my favourites!

  • a genuis!

  • What a sweetheart. What a doll. What purity in her music. She made an impact on my life, for the better.

  • I have decided that I will have this song in my funeral.

  • I get goosebumps everytime I hear her woice...

  • Melanie really struck me as being the real deal. What's nice about You Tube is that you can dig up a couple of her performances of this tune, and she really loses herself in the song at certain points. There are parts where there is great danger this can become shrill and/or over the top, but she belts out the dramatic passages with the right pitch and passion.

This one is more of a throwback to the Weavers than anything else. Great stuff.

  • I cannot listen to her music without tearing up.....beautiful words, beautiful voice.

  • I was/am a big fan of Melanie. I saw her concert in Amsterdam almost 40 years ago and I had all her records.

All my records got stolen and since then I try to buy her cd's, which are not on the marked. A big shame. Thanks YouTube for a change to listen to her music and see her live

  • sinead o connor ish no maybe

  • Sinead O'Connor was actually pretty caustic in her political observations. She was pretty aggressive, didn't care who she hurt. Also, she struggled with mental illness, and is a priest in her own religion. Melanie was a total hippie type, just wanted peace and love. She started her own record company, devoted herself to her family, and even now makes albums with her husband and children, and bypasses the whole wealth industry evil. Bottom line: not a lot of similarities.

  • I first saw her at the original woodstock.

Still in shock they left her out of the DVD,

  • ...yes it's a shame :(

  • oops i meant to hit "Thumb's Up". i'm sorry

  • fell in love with her as soon as i saw her

  • Her sweet and beautiful looks belie her manic crazy singing

  • What a beautiful girl.. she is just adorable.

PEACE WILL COME is a great song.

If you happen to see this, Melanie, we still love you.

  • I friggin love youtube! Melanie is one of my favorite artists. and if it wasn't for YT I never would have seen this. Thank you.

  • I was minus 12 when this show was aired, but remember it like it was yesterday!

  • what are you talking about person above melanie always had hair how do you compare the high priestess woodstock legend to a person like sinead O'connor no one touches melanie safka Sinead O'connor wasn't even born when melanie was the high priestess who are you kidding .melanie is beyond a genuis

  • john cash knew a good thing when he saw it

  • @TheJacdaw

He had all sorts of musicians on that show. He had a very broad taste in music. He himself recorded all sorts of music. He was Country, Rock, and Folk.

  • This was the first time I saw Melanie perform - I was 12 and hooked for life!

  • That was my first time I saw her and I was hooked for life. I was 14.

  • The very best Melanie song.

  • Unbelievably powerful song from one of popular musics' most talented performers!

  • no one in the history of music will ever touch her she is truly one of a kind patent and hall marked with the most powerful instrumental voice that this planet has ever heard or seen

  • Only Melanie had her Token Wail!!! I mean no one else sounds like her. No one ever sounded like her, and no one will ever sound like her again.

  • I remember hearing this on a top 40 radio station in San Francisco, back in August of 1970. I was 14 and standing in a "Hippie Headshop" at the time!

  • This is one of the big songs from 1970,that is NEVER played today,on any oldies stations. She just vanished from the scene after 1971.She could have been MUCH bigger.

  • This a great song that has slipped under the radar. Thank goodness for Youtube, allowing us to bask in "Peace Will Come".

  • saw her In Atlanta Ga. what a show

  • According to plan. She is overlapping Sinead O'Connor.

  • Brand New Key was so popular, it propelled her into bigger and less intimate venues. The mega star experience started taking away from the essence of who she was as a singer and she stepped back from the limelight, had children and raised her family. She never vanished, she's always been around. I don't think she really wanted to be a big star. She still performs and she's still a delight. A wonderful singer and beautiful person.

  • @muskratrowdy

I always wondered why she was not more famous. I hope it's true that it was by her own choice. She is truly remarkable, a one-of-a-kind performer.

  • I completely agree. In 1970 she had Lay Down (Candle in the Rain) which peaked at #6, and this song which peaked at #32, and she was a gigantic voice for peace and love. And yet she is never never EVER played on the oldies stations. Maybe it's because they are owned by the superwealthy who don't want any songs that could possibly wake people up. For instance, they never play Eve of Destruction, Dylan's anti war music, or Joan Baez's anti war music.

  • I totally agree with you!

  • Talk about a wake up song ,check out Bruce Cockburn...if I had a rocket launcher

  • Sirius sometimes play her on the folk channel. It good to hear her after so many years

  • Is it just me or the video thats getting deliberatly fucked up...mmmm...?

  • I love this beauty! Melanie has delighted us all with her innocence and charming, insightful music back in the '70's! She will always be "Beautiful People!"

  • She looks better with hair I think but less powerful...abviously. She shares a split in the lower lip with Sinead O'Connor.

  • She is so nervous here. A great artist.

  • love her saw her in new york and georgia

  • It's a long shot, but there's a chance.

I'll put 5 bucks on Peace.

    Yr pal,
