The incompetency of these commanders is amazing. First off, the allied troops landed in a terrible position, they had little cover and no momentum for an advance. Amphibious attacks are meant to be well planned and fast. The British should have landed farther south and cut off the peninsula. You'd think they'd have the sense to know not to attack a mountain.
I think the basic idea of the Gallipoli campaign was sound, what was not was giving away the plan by the naval attempt to force the Dardanelles, one month before the landing. Had the advance been quick enough then it stood some chance of success, if it had had the resources.
