@420ali3n. To understand the difference between Bootcamp and Basic you have to 1st look at the difference in the name. Basic is to teach you the basics whereas Bootcamp is a training preparing you for the worst possible scenario imaginable. In Bootcamp you are challenged physically mentally and emotionally so if you become a POW you won't be broken down( I can't imagine a Marine who will let himself get captured because we will take our own lives before that happens) Drill instructors exemplify

i have learned from experience that when this stuff is happening the only thing that keeps you from laughing is the fact that if you laugh, you will 1) get yelled at even more then 2) they will probably send you out for a run or get you to start doing push ups, and then 3) probably pick on you by doing the exact same thing until you are able to not laugh about it.

Ok. You got a point, but right in the ears mounts to bamboo under the finger nails. It can toughin them up, won't kill them, but it could effect them for life. Dig that hole fill it up, and dig it again, run in place as they yell a safe distance from the ears... Deafness is a real possibility especially with more then one yelling in them. If it happens in combat then it happens, but you should not deliberately inflict "friendly deafness." Just saying....
The problem is “military personal can't hear,” and now we know why. I'm surprised they aren't all suing. All that yelling is stupid. Want respect? Then earn it, don't try to yell it. Friend he told me after they break you they lay off a bit, they do it to make you mentaly tough not for respect. @applepiebetty - My hearing is just fine. What you see here is an instance of a recruit f-ing something up early in boot camp (Phase 1). The yelling and screaming is part of the breaking down process. Phase 2 and 3 sees less of this (mostly because recruits have made their necessary adjustments) and more "regular" training/education. The Marines wouldn't have the history and reverence they do if they were babied through boot camp. Keep in mind what they're training for.
If you ever called a marine Drill Instructor a "drill sergeant" the ass chewing following would be worse than this. This ass chewing was nothing compared to what I witnessed, but it sure does bring back memories. I only ever seen 1 Rct laugh while getting chewed out. He never did it again. Its easy to say you would laugh; its a whole different state of mind being there.

He had to keep repeating the phrase, "Aye, Aye sir!" and if he were to fall out of tempo due to the distracting drill sergeants, he would have failed his test.
@lok0605 to teach the recruit not to be distracted by their surroundings. example: during combat you have an objective. you must ignore the gunfire and bombs exploding and focus on what you need to do. by being screamed at like this, the recruit learns to ignore it and focus on whats important. in this case its to not cry or not laugh or whatever his emotions might be. in the corps they break you down and make you feel worthless and then build you up 50x stronger and much more disciplined.
That's when I always wound up with a zillion push-ups. I could never manage to keep a straight face when the Drills went on a rampage like that. I think I set a new world's record for number of push-ups performed during Officer Candidate School! : ))

i have learned from experience that when this stuff is happening the only thing that keeps you from laughing is the fact that if you laugh, you will 1) get yelled at even more then 2) they will probably send you out for a run or get you to start doing push ups, and then 3) probably pick on you by doing the exact same thing until you are able to not laugh about it.

Ok. You got a point, but right in the ears mounts to bamboo under the finger nails. It can toughin them up, won't kill them, but it could effect them for life. Dig that hole fill it up, and dig it again, run in place as they yell a safe distance from the ears... Deafness is a real possibility especially with more then one yelling in them. If it happens in combat then it happens, but you should not deliberately inflict "friendly deafness." Just saying....

The problem is “military personal can't hear,” and now we know why. I'm surprised they aren't all suing. All that yelling is stupid. Want respect? Then earn it, don't try to yell it. Do exercises that build a bond between the men and pride, not shame and hate. Who ever thought of this lame idea? I got it feeling it came from the movies.

@applepiebetty The yelling is to break you down, it is the closest they can come to stressing you out enough for combat, I got a Vet. Friend he told me after they break you they lay off a bit, they do it to make you mentaly tough not for respect. After you graduate they are so proud you made it, it might be rough but the end dose justify the means.

@barockhill I wouldn't sue, but surprised others aren't in any military. I’m pretty sure not all have suffered hearing problems, but you don't necessarily know right away, but for those that are... You think they do nothing when hurt by friendly fire? You bet they do. This is friendly deafness, but done on purpose! You can yell without doing it right in someone’s ear.

@applepiebetty - My hearing is just fine. What you see here is an instance of a recruit f-ing something up early in boot camp (Phase 1). The yelling and screaming is part of the breaking down process. Phase 2 and 3 sees less of this (mostly because recruits have made their necessary adjustments) and more "regular" training/education. The Marines wouldn't have the history and reverence they do if they were babied through boot camp. Keep in mind what they're training for.

If you ever called a marine Drill Instructor a "drill sergeant" the ass chewing following would be worse than this. This ass chewing was nothing compared to what I witnessed, but it sure does bring back memories. I only ever seen 1 Rct laugh while getting chewed out. He never did it again. Its easy to say you would laugh; its a whole different state of mind being there.

@lok0605 to teach the recruit not to be distracted by their surroundings. example: during combat you have an objective. you must ignore the gunfire and bombs exploding and focus on what you need to do. by being screamed at like this, the recruit learns to ignore it and focus on whats important. in this case its to not cry or not laugh or whatever his emotions might be. in the corps they break you down and make you feel worthless and then build you up 50x stronger and much more disciplined.
