Many new Singers are really BAD machines, but the old ones were really great. I have had an old Singer sewing machine once (to not point out that I have repaired old sowing machines for over 10 years). The machine I had was much like the one in the commercial It was great and it worked perfect although I prefer old Pfaff because of the power witch is weaker in Singer. The Chinese may be good at some stuff, but not at sowing machines. They are good at some electronics like LG is 100% Chinese.

My mom is using a Model 27 made in 1906. She has never bought parts for it, she has never had to repair it, it just goes and goes and goes.

So, he said since he was paying for it she would get the best. Then they show a Singer doing a zigzag stitch. Later on they show her in front of a Singer 301 which was a straight stitch only machine. A fine machine and still worth a hundred dollars almost 60 years later. Certainly it wasn't the best since they showed a machine zigzagging. Which may have been the first Singer zigzag machine, a Singer 206 (1952). I think he was lying about getting her the best. At least she looked happy.

Give her some credit; she tricked Charlie into buying her a Singer by making him think she'd buy a cheap one. The video just didn't catch her evil wink.

I worked at the old Singer Sewing Machine factory in Elizabeth, NJ right around the time that sewing became obsolete (1978). It was grand watching the assembly line of machines rolling by. Anyway, now that everything is made in China, who gives a damn about quality anymore! This commercial is an example of the good times gone by. :(

@angelpower18 If the Chicoms make sewing machine like they make other junk,It wont sew 6 hours without a breakdown.The only thing I own from China thats not junk is my sks rifle.And it was not made for us but for thier army.

@angelpower18 I had TWO modern Singers that had to be repaired all the time. I could hardly get through a project without something breaking and could never sew heavy material. The plastic innards would twist and pop out of place, or just bust in half. I got an old Necchi from my repair shop about a yr ago. It's over 50 yrs old but its motor is great, made with precision steel parts, sews thru heavy stacked fabrics, works every time. Singer should be ashamed of the garbage they make now.

@angelpower18 I didn't know sewing became obsolete in 1978? I'm always mending those cheap quality shirts made in China every month it seems. If it's not a button falling off it's a pocket tearing. Singer made some good models in the 70's and 80's. The more basic the model. The better off you were.
