Its impossible to say if he was knocked out from the slam or the headbutt, the two were 1/10ths of a second apart. What we do know is Rampage got out of the triangle and Arona got knocked out in impressive fashion.
Clearly the headbutt knocked him out (look carefully right when arona touches the ground with his back and jackson's forehead hits arona's chin) otherwise, there was a good chance that he wouldnt get knocked out by that (remember when fedor took that suplex from randleman like a man)
No it wasn't. Its on record that it was KO by a Slam and if it was a headbutt at that speed his face would be pissing blood but there was non on his face...
Just because it's recorded as a KO doesn't mean that's what it is...
Plenty of things get called incorrectly, they're humans making the calls after all...
and if you look at the post-fight footage, you can see that Rampage has a large cut over his left eye. And i said earlier, Arona was hit on the chin with the headbutt, an area that is much less susceptible to being cut than the forehead.
regardless, it was a great slam, but there was definite head to chin contact at the end.

it's bs...it's not the force of the slam that knocks him out. arona got headbutted...not intentionally, but a headbutt is a headbutt, and it KTFO him. bad luck
If you have the DVD? check out the side angle view of the slam. You can see Rampage employing a killer tactic; when he slams him, his elbows are in Arona's solar plexus knocking the wind out of him with tremendous force. Ricardo even gasps for air right after the slam; that's what did him in.
Theres a clip somewhere here on Youtube showing him still awake after the slam his head bounces up from the mat, but then the headbutt comes down and hes out like a light.
"You are saying an 8 foot drop that cause his head to snap back off the ground didn't cause him to go unconscious... a headbutt did?"

Watch the front angle to work out that Rampages entire body weight is coming down and he lets his head flow forward with it to make one nasty thump of a headbutt.
page... he pulled a rabbit out of hat in this fight... he got dominated with leg kicks and takedowns. he was ko'd by an upkick ( if retardo wasn't so stupid he would of finished him)... then gets a triangle sunk in around his neck and does the only thing he did in this fight... the won lone slam that derailed arona..
lanz he wasn't KO'd with the up-kick? rocked possibly? I agree; but he wasn't out. Observe the referee when he asks Rampage if he wants to continue? Rampage had an incredulous look on his face. You can argue that Arona was slightly ahead in the fight? but the fight was still in it's beginning stages; there was still well over 10min left in the match.
I thought retardo was gonna grind out another dominating dec... it was still in the 10 minute first round, but arona was having his way.. leg kicks (arona's are very underrated), takedowns and just all out frustrating page.... who knows where ricardo's career would've went if he just secured the leg when he sunk in the triangle.... good to see that you aren't unbiased when it comes to your brazilian fighters.... still waitin on shogun to show up...
you bring up an interesting conundrum? on the leg kicks? your right! low kicks I might add; he's very underrated and powerful at. As for "sinking a triangle"? not that he can't do it? but when have you really seen him submit opponents; considering he's a BJJ blackbelt? IMO the guy is too bulky, slow & musclebound and he's shown nothing of his supposed BJJ prowess. He is strong though, but relies on extending fights, laying-n-praying and controlling in a passive somewhat ineffective way.
I felt the same way about his style... he lacks fluidity in his bjj. I don't think he means too, but ricardo is known not only in mma but also in adcc competition as a blanket. he holds you down, grinds you out, then muscles a submission... his phisique compliments that style... as for the damien maia style, I don't think ricardo has the linear type muscle needed...
yep! hey lanz is Chuck the favorite? pretty sure he is; just want to know by how much exactly. Not sure about it? but I don't think Shogun's gonna do to badly this fight, could be wrong I suppose? one thing I reiterate is "ufc is NOT MMA!"
great point about the linear muscle but remember not all Brazilian BJJ practitioners are built like Nogueira, Werdun or Viera? though many are! Look at Filho & Palhares? built like fireplugs but awesome at their craft; they just have the flexibility, bend easier at the waist and are obviously more fluid than the stiff Arona.
thats one of the reasons why i think jacare will progress... he can muscle you down and blanket you on the ground like arona, then overwhelm you with back to back to back sub attempts like werdum... and I see your still using that "ufc is not mma" excuse for shogun still.... you better not jump off his bandwagon now...
Shogun already made his mark & he's still young too; not making excuses for him either, I'm sure he has many years ahead of him? I like his chances vs Chuck; to me Liddell hasn't KO'd a quality fighter in years. Just have to wait and see for Rua? As for Jacare? true he can progress but he's shown a propensity to get KO'd; not that he has a weak chin? maybe just some bad luck or trouble w/his defense that needs ironing out? I see him as lacking in the stand-up department severely.
Arona is an undefeated ADCC champion, in wich is a submission wrestling championship, plus, nobody ever scored a point against him, in ADCC.
He was totally controlling the fight until this powerbomb moment, both standing up and on the ground, dont ask me why he just didnt submitted Rampage after that kick to the face.
turbo when have you seen Arona submit anyone? in ADCC he'd just use his size & strength(and I do hive him that, he is strong) to extend the fight to a points victory. Same in MMA? 1st off the guy lacks flexibility therefore wasn't going to triangle Rampage or anything; an arm-bar could of been possible but he'd only have a shot at that, if Rampage would of been extremely tired? He really wasn't controlling anything standing up? on the ground he was slightly ahead; as for the kick? Jackson was OK
definitely wasn't dominating with punches that's for sure! with low kicks? yes! he's quite effective in that area. But I reiterate: what BJJ? who's he submitted? the man scores great take-downs but seldom concludes to a submission let alone KO or TKO? he's too cumbersome and clumsy, his physique lacks the fluidity and flexibility to be a great BJJ practitioner. Filho & Palhares on the other hand are similar physical types but are fluid at transitions and are real masters of their crafts.
JAJAJAJA que bueno, itssss good, action jackson, stupid brasilero, eso demuestra que la pelea ante fedor solo fue casualidad porque el ruso no estaba preparado, y aun asi le gano, BRASIL SUCKSSSSS
Rampage doesn't get enough credit I have noticed. I like watching his pride fights a lot more than his ufc they were much cooler in my opinion. I want to see fedor as the next ufc champion XD
actually MMA is much safer than football or boxing because of the "quick violent" KO's, see, when you get a dangerous concussive blow in boxing with the 12 ounce gloves on, its not a KO, just potentional brain damage from getting concussive blow after blow, in MMA with the 4 ounce gloves one concussive blow is just that...1 blow fight over no long term brain damage. As a fighter I learned with quickly when i went from Muay Thai to boxing.
Rampage's head was cut from an upkick that pretty much knocked him out earlier in the fight... Amazing that regained consciousness and came back to win!
actually his head was cut when arona's head bounced back from the canvas and hit rampage's head. that upkick you're talking about dislocated rampage's jaw. he said it himself.
when was the last time rampage actually used a slam to win a fight? the answer is a while ago. that is a true testament to how well rounded he has become. he hasn't lost a fight in almost three years. next time he faces wanderlei, shogun, or liddell, my money will have been on rampage.
I don't think wandy, and liddell are the biggest threats to him. rite now machida and shogun are horrible match-up for him. rampage might have improved on punching and footwork but anyone who is as strong and has him and has a good thai clinch is a bad match-up for rampage.
your rite we need to see a rematch to determine if roids had anything to do with shogun throwning page around in the first fight. don't think page is superhuman he's relying heavily on his hands when its his explosive wrestling that made his name. don't fall for the hype since leaving pride page has fought 3 blown up mw's and an overatted champ. when machida get passed tito, page will be next. I personally want page to win because I like his charisma and humor.
maybe, but hendo also did pretty well vs. wandy in pride 33 (las vegas, 2007). so, at least page's beaten both the ufc champ (liddell) and pride champ (henderson). myself, i'd rather see machida vs. griffin or jardine, and wandy vs. ortiz (whom he would probably destroy).
ya pride 33 in vegas was dope I got a pic of me and gomi at the ceasers palace at around 12am the nite before he lost to diaz. I get alot of anxiety when thinking about a wand and tito rematch. just the thought of tito lay n praying wandy out of victory makes me sick.
well i think he is more well rounded, however slams arent really planned things. the fight game has also eveloved to the point where fighters simply arent that easy to pick up any more. look at pages slams..one guy tried a standing kimora, and was slammed for it, arona tried a triangle choke got slammed, igor tried to pull guard and was slammed...all very impomtu.
Wandy wouldn't stand a chance against Jackson now that he has all kinds of confidence in himself, this a is a new Rampage, he never looked this good in Pride. Henderson made a joke out of Wandy when he comatosed him, so did Liddell, Wandy's better days are behind him, his fans will have to come to terms with that.
link, are you kidding? rampage looked much more explosive in pride. since then he beat eastman, linland, chuck and hendo. 3 out of 4 are blown up mw's. rampage is a great fighter/champ but he is not the best 205er. yes his footwork and boxing has improved. but his explosiveness has gone down.
Aloha gang, anything can happen in MMA. Bravo zulu to all these warriors. Liddell had a lot of pressure and because he was complacent before he let his guard down - I don't think that will happen again when he fights Jardine and Jackson once again. As for kicking a man when he is down for some reason just doesn't suit my style unless there is eminent danger. In the long run the smarter man wins...
How did Rampage get knocked the hell out twice? It was once, numbnuts. He was outcold the second time. The first fight he was taking a fuck load of knees and still going. By the way, did you watch Silva get beat by Liddell? I bet you hated that. Silva belongs in a ring, that's his home. It's a shame to see him, Mirko, and Rua in the cage.
i dont think its the cage thats affecting them its UFC's rules. you kick/knee/stomp someone while their on the ground and you cant kick/knee anyone while your both on the ground. as you know, thats silva/rua main strategy. watch any silva/rua/crocop highlight, and youll see them stomping and kicking opponents while their on the ground.
who? forest griffin?......lllllllllllloooooooolllllllllllllllllll...not a snowballs chance in hell...i think chuck mght and i know that is a controversial statement.
No he's not. He would still lose to Rampage. Chuck beat Wanderlei because Wanderlei had a horrible gameplan. Chuck was the better man, but I have no doubt that Wanderlei could take him if he fights smart rather than try to outbox Liddell.
Fucking awesome

page... he pulled a rabbit out of hat in this fight... he got dominated with leg kicks and takedowns. he was ko'd by an upkick ( if retardo wasn't so stupid he would of finished him)... then gets a triangle sunk in around his neck and does the only thing he did in this fight... the won lone slam that derailed arona..
lanzedom 3 years ago
lanz he wasn't KO'd with the up-kick? rocked possibly? I agree; but he wasn't out. Observe the referee when he asks Rampage if he wants to continue? Rampage had an incredulous look on his face. You can argue that Arona was slightly ahead in the fight? but the fight was still in it's beginning stages; there was still well over 10min left in the match.
judaschongo 3 years ago
I thought retardo was gonna grind out another dominating dec... it was still in the 10 minute first round, but arona was having his way.. leg kicks (arona's are very underrated), takedowns and just all out frustrating page.... who knows where ricardo's career would've went if he just secured the leg when he sunk in the triangle.... good to see that you aren't unbiased when it comes to your brazilian fighters.... still waitin on shogun to show up...
lanzedom 3 years ago
you bring up an interesting conundrum? on the leg kicks? your right! low kicks I might add; he's very underrated and powerful at. As for "sinking a triangle"? not that he can't do it? but when have you really seen him submit opponents; considering he's a BJJ blackbelt? IMO the guy is too bulky, slow & musclebound and he's shown nothing of his supposed BJJ prowess. He is strong though, but relies on extending fights, laying-n-praying and controlling in a passive somewhat ineffective way.
judaschongo 3 years ago
I felt the same way about his style... he lacks fluidity in his bjj. I don't think he means too, but ricardo is known not only in mma but also in adcc competition as a blanket. he holds you down, grinds you out, then muscles a submission... his phisique compliments that style... as for the damien maia style, I don't think ricardo has the linear type muscle needed...
lanzedom 3 years ago
yep! hey lanz is Chuck the favorite? pretty sure he is; just want to know by how much exactly. Not sure about it? but I don't think Shogun's gonna do to badly this fight, could be wrong I suppose? one thing I reiterate is "ufc is NOT MMA!"
judaschongo 3 years ago
great point about the linear muscle but remember not all Brazilian BJJ practitioners are built like Nogueira, Werdun or Viera? though many are! Look at Filho & Palhares? built like fireplugs but awesome at their craft; they just have the flexibility, bend easier at the waist and are obviously more fluid than the stiff Arona.
judaschongo 3 years ago
thats one of the reasons why i think jacare will progress... he can muscle you down and blanket you on the ground like arona, then overwhelm you with back to back to back sub attempts like werdum... and I see your still using that "ufc is not mma" excuse for shogun still.... you better not jump off his bandwagon now...
lanzedom 3 years ago
Shogun already made his mark & he's still young too; not making excuses for him either, I'm sure he has many years ahead of him? I like his chances vs Chuck; to me Liddell hasn't KO'd a quality fighter in years. Just have to wait and see for Rua? As for Jacare? true he can progress but he's shown a propensity to get KO'd; not that he has a weak chin? maybe just some bad luck or trouble w/his defense that needs ironing out? I see him as lacking in the stand-up department severely.
judaschongo 3 years ago
Arona is an undefeated ADCC champion, in wich is a submission wrestling championship, plus, nobody ever scored a point against him, in ADCC.
He was totally controlling the fight until this powerbomb moment, both standing up and on the ground, dont ask me why he just didnt submitted Rampage after that kick to the face.
ttuberturbo 2 years ago
turbo when have you seen Arona submit anyone? in ADCC he'd just use his size & strength(and I do hive him that, he is strong) to extend the fight to a points victory. Jackson was OK
judaschongo 2 years ago
Maybe in MMA he doesnt apply his jiu jitsu very well, but he dominated Rampage standing up and thats a fact.
Also, Arona was a brazilian BJJ champion with 15 years old.
Yea, ADCC he use his strenght, but hes not a heavyweight and even so, he won the open weight class of ADCC.
ttuberturbo 2 years ago
definitely wasn't dominating with punches that's for sure! with low kicks? yes! he's quite effective in that area.

Rampage doesn't get enough credit I have noticed. I like watching his pride fights a lot more than his ufc they were much cooler in my opinion. I want to see fedor as the next ufc champion XD

It was a headbutt.. not a KO.
BJJ415N 4 years ago
actually MMA is much safer than football or boxing because of the "quick violent" KO's, see, when you get a dangerous concussive blow in boxing with the 12 ounce gloves on, its not a KO, just potentional brain damage from getting concussive blow after blow, in MMA with the 4 ounce gloves one concussive blow is just that...1 blow fight over no long term brain damage. As a fighter I learned with quickly when i went from Muay Thai to boxing.

I think his head knocked Arona out, not the slam. Watch rampage's head after the slam, it's cut. Great slam nonetheless.
baihbalm 4 years ago
good call! i dont think anyone picked up on it
bigbuzin555 4 years ago
Rampage's head was cut from an upkick that pretty much knocked him out earlier in the fight... Amazing that regained consciousness and came back to win!
tomasusan 3 years ago
actually his head was cut when arona's head bounced back from the canvas and hit rampage's head. that upkick you're talking about dislocated rampage's jaw. he said it himself.
kanguesso 3 years ago
Wait ?? Rampage said that he cut his head from Arona? Are you 100% sure? I have been researching this for an hour now.

How dumb you gotta be to keep your legs locked around a man so he can slam you.

Um, he was going for either a triangle choke or an armbar. Try watching more fights and you'll understand.

when was the last time rampage actually used a slam to win a fight? the answer is a while ago. that is a true testament to how well rounded he has become. he hasn't lost a fight in almost three years. next time he faces wanderlei, shogun, or liddell, my money will have been on rampage.
kanguesso 4 years ago
I don't think wandy, and liddell are the biggest threats to him. rite now machida and shogun are horrible match-up for him. rampage might have improved on punching and footwork but anyone who is as strong and has him and has a good thai clinch is a bad match-up for rampage.
lanzedom 4 years ago
who is you thinkin' is as strong as him? machida? rua? ha! ha! my side hurts!
panmachia 4 years ago
your rite we need to see a rematch to determine if roids had anything to do with shogun throwning page around in the first fight. don't think page is superhuman he's relying heavily on his hands when its his explosive wrestling that made his name. don't fall for the hype since leaving pride page has fought 3 blown up mw's and an overatted champ. when machida get passed tito, page will be next. I personally want page to win because I like his charisma and humor.
lanzedom 4 years ago
maybe, but hendo also did pretty well vs. wandy in pride 33 (las vegas, 2007). so, at least page's beaten both the ufc champ (liddell) and pride champ (henderson). myself, i'd rather see machida vs. griffin or jardine, and wandy vs. ortiz (whom he would probably destroy).
panmachia 4 years ago
ya pride 33 in vegas was dope I got a pic of me and gomi at the ceasers palace at around 12am the nite before he lost to diaz. I get alot of anxiety when thinking about a wand and tito rematch. just the thought of tito lay n praying wandy out of victory makes me sick.
lanzedom 4 years ago
well i think he is more well rounded, however slams arent really planned things. the fight game has also eveloved to the point where fighters simply arent that easy to pick up any more. look at pages slams..one guy tried a standing kimora, and was slammed for it, arona tried a triangle choke got slammed, igor tried to pull guard and was slammed...all very impomtu.
mayalman 4 years ago
Wandy wouldn't stand a chance against Jackson now that he has all kinds of confidence in himself, this a is a new Rampage, he never looked this good in Pride. Henderson made a joke out of Wandy when he comatosed him, so did Liddell, Wandy's better days are behind him, his fans will have to come to terms with that.
Link67 4 years ago
link, are you kidding? rampage looked much more explosive in pride. since then he beat eastman, linland, chuck and hendo. 3 out of 4 are blown up mw's. rampage is a great fighter/champ but he is not the best 205er. yes his footwork and boxing has improved. but his explosiveness has gone down.
lanzedom 4 years ago
Aloha gang, anything can happen in MMA. Bravo zulu to all these warriors. Liddell had a lot of pressure and because he was complacent before he let his guard down - I don't think that will happen again when he fights Jardine and Jackson once again. As for kicking a man when he is down for some reason just doesn't suit my style unless there is eminent danger. In the long run the smarter man wins...
Kotzari 4 years ago
go go go ramapge my man knocking that punjks ass out the punk thought in the earlier that he knocked out jackson think again punk ha ha ha
shakeri840813 4 years ago
How did Rampage get knocked the hell out twice? It was once, numbnuts. He was outcold the second time. The first fight he was taking a fuck load of knees and still going. By the way, did you watch Silva get beat by Liddell? I bet you hated that. Silva belongs in a ring, that's his home. It's a shame to see him, Mirko, and Rua in the cage.
bricedude 4 years ago
i dont think its the cage thats affecting them its UFC's rules. you kick/knee/stomp someone while their on the ground and you cant kick/knee anyone while your both on the ground. as you know, thats silva/rua main strategy. watch any silva/rua/crocop highlight, and youll see them stomping and kicking opponents while their on the ground.

yeah I know...but a determined chuck is a different kind of animal (disclaimer- I am NOT a chuck fan)
mayalman 4 years ago
No he's not. He would still lose to Rampage. Chuck beat Wanderlei because Wanderlei had a horrible gameplan. Chuck was the better man, but I have no doubt that Wanderlei could take him if he fights smart rather than try to outbox Liddell.
DetKimble23 4 years ago
Yeah Wandy used kicks and knees far too little. He never took advantage of Liddell when Liddell fell, either.
