I'm an old guy (66). When I retire I won't be able to play golf but I love video games. I just never played one on my PC. I got B-17 Mighty Eighth to start with but I can't get the Cyborg X FLY 5 to work with it. Do I need to download a special profile or something?
Just get some velcro strips that will stick to your table (or whatever surface you place the stick on) and stick some other velcro strips under the bottom of the stick itself, then you will never have to worry about it moving anywhere. You can buy the velcro stickies at Wal-mart or almost any other place that sells handy little things for super cheap. :)
i made a mistake and bought the aviator which is awfull for FSX, the throttle is good but the stick itself is uncomfortable + you must hold your second hand on it so that the base of the joystick wont flip.
A question I have is, in your own research, what was the approximate lifespan of this joystick? I have quite a few points I love about this, except the lifespan might be a bit on the downside from what I read. So I'd love to hear it from you.
Hi, I've had mine for a while now, it's a sweet joystick, however mine bluescreens my computer when I use it for a certain period of time with certain profiles. I made a couple of my own profiles and it seems like it's only when I use it with a game. It didn't crash at all when I tested it as a mouse. I don't know why and there's a thread for it on saitek but the last post was Jan 2010 and there was no resolution to it. Have you had any problems? Any ideas as to why it crashes?
If you move the joystick a little bit to any direction is it smooth? I have had issues where i move the joystick a little in any direction and it jams or gets stuck a little which is irritating when in a dog fight.
@TPawner I used it on my mac, thankfully no installation required. However, if you use it on windows there is a cd that comes with it and instructions on installation. Hope that helps
is that joystic has vibration like other joystic or playstation2 pad? and does that joystic need power cable or is only usb cable? please answer me. nice review
Z axis twist? real men use rudder pedals (I personally nab the pedals from a steering wheel setup and use it with a joystick). either way, glad to see madkatz finally pulled their heads out of their ass and made some good hardware with this cyborg series.
@TheAviatorMan should i buy this one or the Saitek AV8R 2.0? They both are 50 euros and the only thing is that i think this one looks ugly and the av8r looks good :P but i don't know which one is better for FSX (props and jets)
@Matser85 you did? well i've heard about its structural flaws, though before i heard them i desired this stick due to pretty cool features. now i finally gathered enough money to buy an X52 pro(which i heard a fair amount of good words about it)
Hi. Thinking of buying this from argos for £35, but i was wondering if you thing that is good value for money? Also, does it have a POV hat switch? Thanks...
@TheAviatorMan Yes, I wondered about that too. Have you ever tried this with a WWII flight sim like Wings of Prey? I would love to see how it works for that game or something like it. Thanks.
@erelaxx It shouldn't in reality it does take an amount of time between the controls and the maneuverability of the plane and due to the size and shape of this plane the reaction of the aircraft will be longer.
@erelaxx NOT a bug or feature:) The joystick is just fine, consider the plane is big and heavy. With a fighter plane everything is fast and responsive (Janes F-16, IL-2 Sturmovik so far).
@TheBestCraftersAlive A very good question! So far, for my use with flight simulator I havn't looked back, it looks great feels good and hasnt broken (yet lol)... There have been complaints about durability which I have to take into consideration. I havnt' had this joystick for long enough to know its durability, but it seems that there are people who say it breaks after some time. It's a very difficult choise to make my friend.
Well, I take it back. I just posted a comment about how I like this joystick -- I've had it around a year, but I just plugged it in to use, and it's broken. It's not even calibration the entire control is completely fucked. It's been stored much of this time, just sitting atop my computer tower. I don't think this joystick has very good durability at all.
@dmanbiker Damn I hope mine doesnt break :S but since youve had it for a year I trust your judgement and I guess if it breaks I shoudnt be surprised..
@TheAviatorMan Apparently I have terrible memory. I've had it 2 years, but I'm a pretty light simulator player. I play mostly FPSs and when I get a craving for IL-2 or Mechwarrior or Descent, I pull out the joystick.
It's not that bad, but I've heard that it doesn't have the best durability, and I can see why. The Z-axis on mine went long before the rest, but that also might have been because I'm pretty rough when playing. If you play a lot of non-combat flight sims you'll probably be fine.
Hi there, nice review btw, excuse me i'm thinking of buying this joystick but i have a doubt, the joystick specs says that it is both for left and right handed people, SO, i'm left handed and i hold the stick with my left hand, but the throttle is in the left side of the stick, so what the hell ? can i remove the throttle fom that side and place it on the right side ?? because if not, then it's only a right handed stick. so thats my question, sorry if it's a long Q i relly want this stick ^^
@eXeelion I understand what you mean... that does sound like a problem...In short you cannot move the throttle from the left side to the right side unfortunately!! I duno why they would say its for right and left handed people, the joystick on its own maybe but not the throttle (unless you can deal with the inconvenience hmmmm)
@TheAviatorMan damn, i never had a joystick and this one looks beautiful, i'm pretty sure i can master it with my right hand, i use the mouse with my r hand, or maybe go with the cyborg v1, at least it's cheaper, will see, anyways ty for your quick response
@eXeelion I think you will be fine with your right hand. Just imagine you were an airbus pilot seated on the right hand side, you would have to get used to using the joystick with your right hand and professional pilots learn to do use their opposite hand so you will be fine!
@TheAviatorMan yea i think i'm just gonna go with it and get it, one final question, did any of the buttons ever fall off ? because i heard many times that the buttons in the top of the stick come off really fast, and that it moves too much when you press those buttons
@eXeelion I have also heard about the buttons falling before I bought it but so far it hasnt. Just dont smash it about whilst playing games lol and hopefully you will be alright!!
@eXeelion I have owned 2 of these sticks and although a decent one the 4 main fire buttons are prone to breaking@the piviot point.there is only roughly 1/6" plastic at the privot point in time it will break there. Some are broken in the box new :{."very poor design. My number 2 button has broken on both of the sticks I owned. My older cyborg last me 4 years both new sticks lasted 4-8 months. Now to find a decent stick that will not break-even if I had to pay twice the amount of money. Cheers
@MyBullDogMack I just got mine today. Guess what, buttons 1,2,4 or broken. Or actually they work, but only if I press the whole joystick down, hard, twards the base. Anybody have any solution?
See the thumb buttons ? near the blue light? 4 of them and a POVbutton. The 4 buttons are attached by a small and THIN plastic. Simple knock or overuse will make the buttons fall off. Mine broke less than 6 months, while I carefully maintain the joystick.
Sure the dual throttle, retractable stand, and detachable handle might look great, but if the button fall off ? :(
A great stick, only problem is that with the way the buttons are designed on the joystick, they are easily breakable, airport security broke it when they took it out of my bag :(
Does your POV work? I'm using it on macbook with X3 and it's fine except for the POV. Can't even get it to register the input when trying to assign POV directions to commands and when you use it in game the ship just rolls around like a pig in filth.
@LinebackerDirge Yeah my POV works fine for me... But I rarely use that from the joystick I've kinda just got used to always using the keyboard for views (I've been doing that since back in the day with MFS). But yeah in a nutshell I have assigned them on the joystick during a calibration test to see if it all works and they do.
@TheAviatorMan Actually bought X3. Works perfectly now. 2 lessons; 1) Buy the game or don't complain, and more importantly, 2) I can confirm that the Cyborg Fly 5 has complete PAP functionality for Mac.
