What a difference a decade makes. In the mid 1940's Dick Powell did a complete turnaround and started playing dramatic parts in what was known as film noir. I remember him on the radio as Richard Diamond. Then he went on to star on TV. Always ready to try something new. But he was still great in the 1930's musicals.

Very cool.(I remember this so well as a kid). Dick Powell ,a good friend of our family's, told my father, who later- related to me, that at this point in his career, (he) was fed-up with doing light musicals. There was a book he wanted to option, that had just come-out, which he felt had a perfect role for him to ease-into as a dramatic actor, by a writer named James Cain. It was called "Double Indeminity"! R.J.

Even though a comedy, this one got me interested in ships and other Navy stuff as a kid. Oddly enough, years later I spent several years in the Navy.

Dick Powell had a good, strong tenor voice. I liked his "Starlight, Starbright" from the earlier part of this same A&C movie and recall sitting on the carpet when I was a child and singing mindlessly away with him-as I played with my toys. (In my mind, his voice was my voice...)
He became a TV pioneer though, and we heard little of his vocals anymore..or even saw his acting anymore. He simply changed his talent-base to another media.
