  • I just found some solder under the house my old man had.Its the fatter stuff but it says Silver Solder.

I used it on some bass cabinets that i put together & it seems to work fine.

So is Silver Solder o.k to use Dave ? I quess its not the average solder you get ?

  • @TheJagzy

if it's real silver solder it's great

if it's plumbers solder it's not

you really needed flux as well to do a proper silver solder joint

    Cheers !!

  • Davey, you can gooch my wife anytime. I've learned so much from your vids. Great video!

  • Thanks for the video!

  • why do canadians and americans call it "sah-der" ? there's clearly an "L" in it. da fuq. learn to english. "sol-der"

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe

(usually pronounced /ˈsɒldər/, /ˈsoʊdər/[1] or in USA /ˈsɒdər/

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe Why can't brits pronounce the "er" in any word? They pronounce it "ah". There is clearly an 'er' in the word 'fucker' and yet you're family calls you 'fuckah'.

  • @boogiechillen123 alloominum!

and the worst thing about america... when they say "i COULD care less" when they mean couldn't.

besides, WE INVENTED THE LANGUAGE! :]

  • @boogiechillen123 That Depends on where you live in England.

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe saying 'learn to english' kinda fucked your argument there

  • @lawrenceames that was obviously a joke, go find a sense of humour

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe your an idiot.. i live in louisiana and we say it just like this guy!

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe why do people in england pronouce Butter "buh-Duh" when it clearly has theletter "T" in it "Buh-Ter"

  • @TehSeanRadcliffe

Have you ever heard of a silent letter? or did you miss that class? Let's use the word "reign" for example, I guess you would pronounce it " ree-i-gun"?

From Dictionary-dot-com sol·der [sod-er] ( notice how the pronunciation key clearly leaves out the "L" sound?

    1.

any of various alloys fused and applied to the joint between metal objects to unite them without heating the objects to the melting point.

    2.

anything that joins or unites: the solder of their common cause.

  • rockin video. the only thing you could find usfull is a small vice. i had one on my desk till my brother caught his finger in it, and i had to take it off. but for tinning, and soldering the pots, it's much easier, and safer. that's all. ooh, and i hate solder wick. i can never get it to work, and yes i know you have to fluff it out a little. but yeah. good video.

  • THE STRIPPER GOES DOWN!!!! HA HA HA HA!!!!!

  • Question. Could I, for the purpose of grounding, screw in a small piece of metal into the inside of the control cavity and solder the ground wire to that ? would that ground everything or does it specifically have to be part of the bridge ?

  • @MaidenFan24568

the bridge must be grounded or you could get electrocuted :(

  • i really like the 2-camera mount

  • Excellent video Dave! Thanks man !

  • burnt husk

  • Hahahahah.....I just need a hole.....

  • this new two camera thing is excellent thanks Davey, keep up the good work.

  • OK Dave I bought a guitar but the pickup buzzer unless I touch it , I know its not grounded properly I took out the pickguard and all the electronics are in the pickup noting touching the body of the guitar like a strat I had..help?

  • @unibrow9

does it have a ground wire from the bridge to the controls, to ground the strings?

  • @davey4557 Nope, everything is in the pickguard, the pots , the pickup, nothing is touching the body at all...the bridge is a tailpiece style..what might need to be done?

  • @unibrow9

the strings and brdge need grounding.

it's a wire thru a hole from the cavity to the bridge

    ;0

    you need that

  • @davey4557 whats you email again? Id send you some pictures if I take off the pickguard again

  • @unibrow9

see if the ground and hot are not mixed up at the output

  • I have not even watched 2 min of this video and I got to say great job in the filming aspect. Also good knowledge for the people.

  • Hey Dave worshipers, don't be afraid to get that can of Contact Cleaner out and spray those pots... Remember he mentioned in the beginning these techniques are for people who are changing pickups, or broken pots. Contact cleaner can restore those scratchy pots to new beginnings!!!

  • Soldering is one of those things that's not hard to do once you know how to do it....Good info for the newbie.

  • I use lead based solder, it's easier to work with but it's getting harder to find. Supposedly lead doesn't vaporize at soldering temperatures, while the crap they put in the other stuff does. That doesn't mean you should huff it though.

  • Great video for us beginners. Thanks.

  • I learned how to solder on the job as an IT and AV engineer for 21 years, making cables carrying data, audio and video, and theres 2 points I cant stress enough. first, TIN YOUR WIRES!!! I know you mentioned it but its doubly important as 9 out of 10 problems with wiring is caused by not tinning wires and then they fray or break. also, that smoke the solder makes is POISONOUS! use a fan or extractor where you can. Some american states have warnings about it causing cancer and sterility!

  • Great video again, Dave. Though, you didn't mention about not blowing on the solder to cool it down. That supposedly oxidizes it and makes it less conductive.

  • i like the 2 video cameras

  • Very informative and great video and tips.
