  • totaly agree the voteing age should be lowered to 16

  • No votes at 16. I am 16 and know that were the vote given, it would be disaterous. Celebrity endorsement would come into play more than ever, making a mockery of campaigning. Kids haven't experianced enough of the world to make an informed descision at 16. The minority would vote wisely but the majority would vote for Jeremy Clarkson if he were to run. It would make politics about which MP could hand out the most lollypops than which MP had the best policy to reduce national debt.

  • As you Can see Im strongy in favour for Votes@ 16, Its near the top of the political agenda.

The case for Votes @ 16 is very strong, the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and senior politicians from all political parties are talking about Votes at 16. It's party policy for the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish National Party, Plaid Cymru and many others. The Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the House of Lords all back it...(Continued below)

  • The Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Austria have all already lowered the voting age to 16.

The Youth Citizenship Commission, set up to investigate lowering the voting age, found two thirds of all respondents and three quarters of young people in favour of it.

Over 1.5 million 16 and 17 year olds are denied the vote in the United Kingdom. For years there has been a consistent demand from young people for Votes at 16, and a clear case for change. That case is now overwhelming.

  • The Liberal Democrats and Labour both support lowering the voting age to 16, as do the Scottish and Welsh Nationalists.

Austria and Brazil already have minimum voting ages at 16, I see no reason why the UK should not pass an Act of Parliament immediatly lowering the age a citizen can vote to 16.

  • no im sorry, but its a ridiculous notion. i dont want minority parties like the BNP and the NF to rise up because 16 year olds dont give a toss. They will not take the whole process seriously and you will see parties like The Monster Raving Loony Party gaining from this atrocity. NO VOTES TO 16 YEAR OLDS. THATS FINAL.

  • @Nederlandsboi what the fuck? why not? 16 year olds want to get envolved in politics but they arent allowed, they wont all just vote for parties like the MRLP! and so what if they do? This is a democacy for god's sake, they can vote for whoever they want! not all 16/17 year olds are thick, i am very politically active, i looked at all the manifestos and decided upon which i agreed with most (UKIP). give 16 year olds the vote, this is a democracy for goodness sake! let them vote for who they want

  • @Nederlandsboi, if 16-17 year olds were allowed to vote, they WOULD take it seriously! 16-17 are not dumb people, they know their mind, they will vote for whoever they want, it's their choice! i am 17 and i will vote for whoever i feel like when i am able to vote, we need to let 16/17 year olds vote because they will bring more protest votes and more opposition to the lib/lab/con parties. it's a democracy, give all adults the vote, not just those over 18!

  • Im sorry, but this is ridiculous! giving a vote to 16 year olds is just morrally wrong. do you honestly think that 16 year olds would take running the country seriously?? you go out onto the street and ask a normal 16 year old what policies the conservatives, labour or lib dems wish to employ after the 2010 general election. they couldnt tell you!! so when you have the next MYP meeting, adress the fellow delegates and tell them to discuss real issues instead of stupid immature unecessary reason

  • yeah but those people are stupid who only think about drinking ¬¬ not everyone is like that dumb arse

  • unfortunetly most of the Country is ill informed about Politics, yet we dont deny these people the vote.

Brazil, Austria and the Isle of Man already allow 16 years olds to vote, the UK should follow suit.

  • @Nederlandsboi i an 17 and could tell you loads about my oppinions on the lib/lab/con policies, i will even tell you which party(s) i support and why! letting 16 year olds vote is not morally wrong, it is infact morraly right because all people in a democracy who know their own mind and are adult enough about it should be allowed to vote, and the perfect age is 16 because you can do virtually everything els,e except vote!
