  • wonder if it costs less just to make one yourself? id like to try that!

  • I think is snob to own this guitars only for it´s value and put it on a wall, like an ornament.... but... joe bonamasa for example owns and tours one and it sounds amazing. The truth is tht is a great guitar. i don´t know if it is the best guitar ever made, but it´s amazing in terms of look and it sounds amazing. The PAF´s sounds amazing.

  • all that fake ageing is crap. however for a few hundred thousand dollars you can own a '59 Lester. i can't stand those two burst brother snobs. people spend way too much time worrying about "vintage" and not enough time thinking about the playing. i wonder how many "help-me" box's this guy uses?

  • God, I wanna try her...

  • This video is absolutely spot on, its all about playing the instrument and how it feels to the individual. The 58, 59, 60 Les Pauls by Gibson are where its at hands down in terms of this style of guitar. If you are looking for a Modern equivalent dont go for a re-issue, have a look at Companys like Edwards who have managed to capture the real essence and feel of these older Les Pauls using older style construction, but brought them into next milenium.

  • @towtruckn

Tokai guitars, too. Their higher priced models are supreme.

  • I have a couple of custom shop LP's- but you can't duplicate that ageing process on the '58-'59 'burst nor the ageing of wood-- fabulous stuff... thanks so much for this!

  • If Jimmy Page had not picked up a Les Paul, these would be just old guitars. Theres so few of these guitars left, (and they were hit & miss guitars back then) that the value remains high.

  • @TheUltraworld Actually it was Eric Clapton who was responsible for the popularity of the Les Paul. He played a 1960 Les Paul on the Bluesbreaker album in 1966. To this day that is considered one of the best guitar tones ever recorded. So if Clapton had played a Strat on that album, it would be Fender guitars selling for $500,000.

  • @murfdog19 Are you sure Clapton played a 1960, I always read that he played the 1959, but its only what i've read online...

  • @MOSKII58 Everyone assumes it was a '60 because Clapton remembers it having a very thin neck. Gibson is actually reproducing the "Beano Burst" which will be released in January, and it's based on a 1960 Les Paul Standard.

  • @murfdog19 The Beano Burst was released two days ago. It's on the Gibson site now.

  • @murfdog19 i have to lean toward what you are saying, most of the 1960 tones i've heard sound significantly better than its 1959 counterpart. ie> check out fretted Americana's 60's vs 59's..Tom Wittrock also says the bursts do not fade on the later 59's & most of the 1960 finishes, because they started to perfect or sig improve the paint materials & finishing processes at the end of the 59 run and into the 60's and beyond..you can see most 60's & later show a better burst which did not fade.thx

  • price?

  • a reissue is around 5000 bucks.
