@SaskStrum You Rock. I picked up a guitar for the first time in mid November, thanks to you I can play "last kiss" in it's entirety while singing along, i even added more to it guitar part. All this and i don't even know my chords yet, haha. Talk about starting backwards? I love it though and I'm thinking of tackling Mr Jones next. I may contact you for some video lessons too at some point if you still have time. -Mags.
@rmagalik Thanks mate I appreciate that. Check out my new channel SaskStrumTips as I am adding new content to it specifically for beginners. Take care
This is really weird to watch at this point since I decided the first day I decided to learn guitar to record my progress on YouTube as diary entries. It is really painful to watch those early ones and it is weird to see how what you think you're playing sounds like really translates. Of course, I'm still a beginner on guitar but every once in a while it is nice to go back and say, "okay, yes, I am getting better".
@jec5476 That's what it's all about. My channel is a blog also to record my improvements. I find it gives me a boost when I look back at my earlier posts compared with my most recent ones. That drives me to want to get even better. Take care and keep strumming.
hello simon, i'm flattered that you said those things about me and my playing mate, i've had a grin like a cheshire cat all morning lol.
you are so right in what you say about recording yourself, the first time i did it was 2005 when i thought i was the mutts nutts (i'd only been playing 6 months) and i recorded wonderwall on my phone, after listening back to it i realised i was all over the place with strumming, chords fluffed, timing etc. you are certainly your biggest critic.
@TboneWilson1978 My pleasure mate, you deserve it. As I have said to you before you were the inspiration for me to start recording videos as I had watched so many of your great lessons and saw how your playing had improved. I just wish I could sing like you as my voice sounds like a cat being strangled lol. All the best.
Hey man you are so right. My guitar instructor suggested that I record myself as well and feel that has really helped me. The first video I post was a cover I did not Bob Segar's Turn the Page and the lastest video I have posted was a cover I did on Jimmy Buffett's A Pirate Looks at Forty. I myself notice a big difference in my playing and singing between the two videos. Could I talk you into looking at my channel and looking at the first video I posted and then the last and tell what you think?
Wow I came to the same conclusion last month and have posted three of my own songs, might not be brilliant but I enjoyed doing them.
I subscribe to James as well and his channel and yours plus a few others have helped my playing. I keep learning even after playing the guitar for years, you have got to keep pushing the envelope of knowledge and skill, and thats what you guys help us all to do.
@devilsbanjo Thanks so much for your comment Steve, I really appreciate it mate. I'll subscibe to your channel and take a gander at your posts. Take care mate and keep strumming.
James (TboneWilson) is great :D I've been watchin his vid's for a while now. I've been meaning to start posting some videos myself although my webcam isn't very great so when I hit low bass notes the sound breaks up terribly :(
@rhcppetar95 Great stuff! I look forward to seeing some of your posts. Make sure you send me a link so I can take a gander when you have uploaded them.
First of all Happy New Year!Second..i have a YouTube Channel since 2009 i think and i posted 2 videos back then. When i see them now i say " Who's this?Is it me?"
I've improved a lot!And now you inspired me to upload videos again.
Thanks Sask.And btw i love your tutorials.Learn a lot from them. :)
Food for thought indeed. I came to guitar late in life, 40 years old, because I always thought I could'nt play it. I have been playing for 2 and a bit years now and can only say I wished I started years ago. Your videos, and other generous uploaders, are a genuine help and inspiration for me personally. I can only offer my sincere gratitude and thanks for giving me the confidence to try new material I thought too difficult. Keep up the excellent work and many, many thanks for your time/effort.
@Nealk35 Thank you so much mate. The guitar is all about having fun in my book and gaining a certain modicum of self satisfaction for your efforts. Take care and keep strumming!
I created a channel last year and i noticed recently you posted some words of encouragement , thanks for that Simon . I should put something up again on there soon , i cant sing whilst playing yet though which sucks !
Hey Simon...we've talked before. You'll never know how much you've helped me learn to play guitar these past 10 months. I'm now 66, and began learning to ward off any/all "oldtimers" diseases. Haven't played since I was about 14 or so. I understand you'll be taking your site down by Feb.? I know you have the opportunity to go back to school, and I applaud you for that. I have to be (selfishly) honest and say that will be a heavy blow to those of us who have benefited from your lessons. :)
@mpm111144 From past experience you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, don't give up if it brings you happiness and enjoyment. If I can play this stuff, anyone can. Thank you so much for your comment. Fret not mate, the lessons will continue here on YouTube and my new website will launch later this year. Take care and keep strumming.
@SaskStrum Haha...I loved your comment, "Fret not mate." No pun intended, I'm sure. lol So glad to hear your lessons will continue here on YouTube. I'm starting a 12 week course in Beginning Guitar at a local community college on Feb. 1st., 2 hours, one night a week to hopefully unlearn some bad habits I've picked up in the past 10 months or so. One thing you mentioned in this vid is so true, especially for me. You said we can be, or are our worst critics. How so very true. Take care.
Very nice video! Enjoy your encouragement! I subbed to your channel a while back and with all the tutorials on You tube I am itching to finally get around to learning and posting some stuff! Soon I hopes!
@CRAIGARRR Go for it, post it and have a boat load of fun doing it! Let me know when you post and I will definately take a look. Take care and keep strumming!
Youtube first introduced me to the possibility I might be able to learn guitar. I bought a steel string and a nylon string and started watching youtube and learning. It's been 3 years (I think) and I've really enjoyed the journey. I'm not sure about the posting, but it sounds reasonsble.
Timely advice, with the New Year and all. I'd tried to do this a couple years ago but was scared off after posting just one video.... :) Maybe I'll give it another go for 2011!
@SaskStrum Dude! that exactly what i did, ive put up few now and i agree exactly with what you said, its good to see it played back and to get some input is nice. wish i had time to put up more.
