Badass anime. Used to come home from school when I was a kid to watch this on the korean channel when they used to give 4 hours worth of anime everyday. Didn't understand a thing, but loved it!! XD
funny thing is when yusuke comes out of the cave in long haired demon form I think boton makes a refrence to ushio and tora "What are you that beast spear boy?" something like that in the manga.

I can see this anime inspiring alot of newer anime characters
Inoue Orihime and Tatsuki from Bleach (almost similar to the girls Ushio hangs out with)
Yusuke's demon form (the long hair when ushio uses the spears power)
Inuyaha (Sorta like tora except he aint secretly in love with Ushio hopefully lol)
