  • Break a leg, hope you nail it.

  • I'm auditioning for this show in August!

  • in case somebody with no good knowledge of acting and theatre trying to bring this actor down, please read this: this is a very good acting especially for such a young person. there is nothing called playing with voice, up and down or whatsoever here. when you act, you dont play with voices

  • pretty good

  • but great for high school

  • glib

  • Not very good...the "God is dead" part was done terribly...

  • great job, honestly, very well done. for a high school play, it seems that it has the right quality the very play demands. and yes, theatre is much more different than TV or film, it requires much more energy and skill, all of you did great, hats of to you all.

  • how can people act like this? like the girl screaming. ffs this type of things pisses me off i hate english class lol.

  • amazing <3

  • wow my dumb ass thought this was about the USMC Crucible

  • BRILLIANT performance. He grasped the emotion and set of the scene so well. It left me speechless... I only wish the kids in my English class would have acted this way when we acted it out. I mean, I played Betty and actually started to climb out the window in my classroom. xD

All I can say is bravo. VERY nicely done.

    ***** + Fav.

    <3 R.A.

  • I think Elizabeth should be the subject of these excerpts. She is an incredible actress...she put on a great performance.

  • i was in a high school production of the crucible a few months ago and i played the part of john proctor. this proctor was different from how i played him. i think steve vilendrer, or whatever his name is, is a good actor, even though one pattern that i noticed that i think he could've changed was that he would yell, have a pause, speak quietly, and then start yelling again. it was effective a few times, but other times i thought it seemed a bit out of place.

  • but hey with that said it was still a pretty damn good performance. i'm sure there were some things i could've fixed as well.

  • i thought it was a pretty damn good performance

  • Ok, everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax. He's not bad at all, I thought. And I'm sure whoever put this video up didn't do it so you all could say such horrible things about the poor guy. If you don't like it, don't watch it! Please! Spare yourself the arguments!

  • he's not too good. keeps shouting and then going quiet.

  • Yes, it's called dynamics. We're so used to monotone TV we've forgotten what it means to have a contrast of range and how much more effective it makes a performance. He's far better than anything else I've seen done with The Crucible.

  • its is a metaphor based on truth you retard. Miller was interviewed by SAen. McCarthy and questioned about the meaning of this play. i just learned about it. tard.

  • this isn't very well done, particularly the "it is my name" dialague. he yells at unnecessary parts.

dude, you're not daniel day lewis, you just suck

  • I didnt think it sucked. It was done as well as a school production could do. The theater students did a fine job. They dont have to be like Daniel Day Lewis. They should be themselves.

  • What do you mean they should be themselves? What the hell is the point of acting if you're not going to do your very best? Maybe students can't be as good as Daniel Day Lewis, but they sure as hell should try.

  • see, i'm not trying to be harsh; the just as good as a school can do excuse is bullshit. they just aren't good actors. that's all.

  • And you're not very good at typing coherent sentences..but it's rude to go on and say it like you care. You have no credibility as 'teegemagic', so if you're going to throw out these rather sloppy criticisms, you might want to qualify yourself with something more than the above -.-

Personally I don't like this style of acting with the voice dynamics, but it is nonetheless a style - not a mistake. It would have been the director that decided which lines he would emote on anyway. *shakes head*

  • "is that document a lie" um, sounds like some fucking computer nerd. it's just bad vocal inflection.

  • So "You're not trying to be harsh" huh ? Calling teenages f-cking computer nerds is not harsh? Wow - looks like the best part of you ran down your mother's leg the night you were conceived.

  • Your stupid remarks aside, he brings a power to that line that I've never heard from even the recording of the original Broadway play. If you're thinking of being a drama critic I urge you not to quit your day job.

  • @WildStrawberryFilms A negative remark is not necessarily a stupid one, you know. Personally I don't think it's particularly brilliant, but it's a high school production. You don't expect a Daniel Day Lewis performance.

  • @teegemagic The award for the biggest douche goes to...

  • It's not used as a Metaphor, it is based on truth. Miller, in his script, used exact words from court scriptures. He did years of research before he even began his story. The names, real. The story, real. The deaths and fictional accusations, REAL.

  • if you check carefully, you'll discover that he actually changed a lot of things. for example, did you know that abigail was really only 12 years old, and john procter was 62? his wife was 41!

  • soo the make-ups a bit much.

  • meh.........

  • just performed this play tonight... was great... i was john proctor :P

  • and when i said "wow" at the end of my comment it was not a good thing

  • everybody was just YELLING at random parts of their dialogue...there was nothing behind it and after the part where john p. rips the confession he looks like a zombie, just total defeat....wow...

  • it's pretty good

  • it gave me chills

  • Brilliant. Just brilliant.

  • lame

  • who? you?

  • amazing

  • This is quite good, especially for high school! I just finished playing Abby in a regional theater production, and I'm pretty impressed by this. John's emotional levels are perfect.

And this is not overdramatic - I'd react similarly if in John's position!

  • For us, we had a great junior take the part. He was very true to the part, and yours is as well. Great job!

  • Outstanding preformance by him.

Don't listen to what the others have said.

    He was brilliant.

  • I love Marry Warren in this video.

  • OMG, I am about to slap this John Proctor! I expected yelling when he says, "I have given you my soul; leave me my name!" I want something really dramatic!

  • It's a great production, but I have to brag and say ours is better lol. All in good nature, it's an amazing play either way.

  • this is NOT overdramatic

    this is perfect

do you think the real 'witches' just read their bloody lines and swayed?

  • He's not better than Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • I'm sorry, I know how much work was put into a production as this, I myself am john Proctor in my schools production of The Crucible, but this version was very over dramatic and the character of Proctor was very based on Daniel Day Lewis's version of Proctor too. The ending was very wnti climactic also.

  • The Danforth sucks so much...

  • Talent an looks, good combo.

  • Yep, and really a great guy. That's why he got a leading role in our feature.

  • amen.

  • wow thats all i've got... just wow. danforth is weak as hell in this.

  • Proctor is really bad. He can't do highs and lows well and build and grow. My high school is doing it. it's much better.

  • ...and I'll bet your daughter can paint better than Picasso too. Since this Proctor is better than the original broadway cast and if yours is better than him you ought to get your show on the road. I was disappointed you hadn't posted anything of your own. By the way, Miss High and Low, did you notice this was an excerpt?

  • is this a musical????please answer

  • no it's a play

  • Yes. There is an opera version of it.

  • Reading the play in my English lessons. Just read the bit at the start today ._O It's an awesome read.

  • To respond to Melodie's comment about my tendency for half-smiles: ; - ) Yes, I agree that this is a quirk of mine--to every actor his own. This was my first performance piece (in 2001) -- I have since worked it out. Thanks for the discerning eye.

  • That was AMAZING! She was a great actress.

  • Wow, just..wow.

  • he's good, but he always looks like he's half-smiling...ya know? he just has that kind of face.

  • This guy is terrific!

  • I couldn't agree more. This video convinced me to try him out for my feature film, and he got the part. Thanks for the comment!

  • Oh my gosh, that was heart-wrenching! I'm on the point of tears. I haven't seen acting that good in a long time, especially not from such a young person. Please pass on my admiration of his considerable talent. And he's cute too. But don't tell him that part : )

  • I will pass it on to him. I can't include a web address here but google Steven Vilendrer and look for "Steven Vilendrer, hot new talent discovery" and "Review of Eavesdropper" and there's other videos that will come up too. Thank you.
