You can't truly call yourself a RPG purist without having played the BOF series. The first four games in the series are as rich as pure uncut cocaine...

Ok so that analogy sucked. But you get the point, the series was legendary, at least up until the fifth one.. If only they could keep the battle system, genes, and familiar elements we knew from the first four, deepen the storyline on top of it. now that would be a game worth a hundred dollars. Alas, it is but smoke on the water.

Ahh Fou-Lu. One of my favorites characters in all videogames I played. Was a great idea that you could play as him and see his story, all his decisions have a reason to be. I love so much play with him that I have a save apart only for train him xDDD

I wish capcom would make more of these, Dragon quarter felt like they were punishing you on all the good points of the games.. the story opening up only if you play over and over, the time limit and dragon transformations shortening your lifespan. That being said i did like the game, breath of fire 4 however was my first and fav breath of fire game <3

No, you don't have to. This series is like FF, every game is different. Only the name and physical appearance of Ryu and Nina is recurring.

@GlennGR True, but there is a timeline that connects them all. Ryu who's part of the Dragon tribe and Nina who's part of the Wyndian tribe and even Cray who's part of the Woren tribe, all of their tribes make an appearance at some point in each game, I think. We see Katt from BOF2 is the same and Tiger as well from BOF2. Ryu and Nina always look the same from what I can tell. I'm pretty sure BOF4 is first in the timeline though.

IV is set before the others, a prequel to the first three, so likely the best place to start
