Scottie Pippen was my favourite player ever and he is a team player that could complement other players better than LeBron (look what he did on a no-star Portland team after he left the Bulls AND after his prime), but LeBron is considered to be the most single unstoppable dominant force along with WIlt, Moses and Shaq, and he's not even a Center! So just because LeBron's defense is only a less than Pippen's (though LeBron is good) doesn't justify the title.

Lebron James will never be as good as Scottie Pippen. Not as fundamentally sound, nor does he bother to add to his game year to year. Examples: he still has no post game to speak of, no mid-range game, and is still not an elite defender despite being more athletic than any 3 he matches up with. Pip aint GOAT nor is LBJ. But Pipp is the greatest SF, AS OF NOW. LBJ will pass him up, however, he needs to earn himself a ring 1st. LBJ is definitely dominating but only to a certain extent. Hes yet to command the constant double/tripleteams outside of the key that MJ/KB do. Once you earn the extra coverage outside the key, thats when youve become dominant by CONSTANTLY freeing up open teamates. Also, LBJ lacks a post game, something Pip has taken advantage of all throughout his career.
Pip was a great player but he was definitely not the greatest SF. Obviously Bird was better and I'd put Dr. J and an overlooked D. Wilkins ahead of him. LB does command double-teams consistly. Being the greatest at a position is an individual accolade - being a team player is irrevalant. The name of the game is putting the ball in the hole. Other aspects are important but you wouldn't say that Russell was a better center than Kareem or Wilt. Your team player point relies on the fact that Pip was on teams with other great players. That shouldn't factor into an evaluation of his individual talent. No way in hell he's better than Bird.
I got to say I agree with what both of you are saying. I just got to put my opinion is this. I commenting about the Russell being better than Kareem or Wilt. Scoring wise no he wasn't better. Defensively he was better. I would rather have Russell playing center for me than the other two.
Russell was able to focus almost solely on defense. He was on an uber-talented team. Kareem and Wilt for much of their careers were on teams that weren't half as talented. You don't think if they concentrated on defensive that they wouldn't have been just as good if not better than Russell? Wilt was a better passer, scorer, and just as good of a rebounder. Although LBJ is still only 25, because of his incredible size, speed and amount of energy his body exerts, his body will breakdown much faster than expected. Don't be so naive to think an athlete like that can last forever. 27 will be his absolute peak as the player he was meant to be. So if he doesnt join a run/gun offensive team with competent players soon, then clock will start ticking for everybody else to hear.
You're making a huge assumption that he'll decline physically. Barkley, Malone, Otis Thorpe, etc. were more than effective well past their physical prime. None of the greats "true" primes coincided with their physical primes i.e. Jordan and Magic. Because of his size and strength his physical prime will be extended.

How many of them have made the finals more than Pippen? Nobody. TD is closest as the only one who was the leader and he's past his prime. Kobe had Shaq and shaq was the star.
Pippen was a better forward than Lebron, in general. to hell wit stats. Lebron didnt have Jordan on his team. If it werent for the hugh hollins call in 94, Pippen wouldve gone as far as Lebron did in 2007. Lebron, to me is a better offensive player, but the game has changed. And FYI to everyone who buys the hype, while Lebron aint 6'9". He is the same height as Pippen (6'7") (seen him in person) but bigger at 260. It's much of an advantage if he's at guard or small forward against smaller guys.

The most assists Pippen ever had in a season was 7.0 and he averaged 5.2 for his career. Lebron has already had three seasons were he had 7.2 and his career average is 6.7 assists.

first of all, stats arent everything. Second of all, they are two different offenses. The Bulls ran the triangle.you also see Kobe running it. Jordan also averaged close to 5 assists per game and dont forget Armstrong and Paxson were there. Anyone who knows basketball knows it takes a team to win and stats dont mean squat. By the way, Chicago's ball movement in a triangle offense, which Pippen lead in assists, is much better than Lebron having to do everything and still coming up short everytime

Scottie Pippen was my favourite player ever and he is a team player that could complement other players better than LeBron (look what he did on a no-star Portland team after he left the Bulls AND after his prime), but LeBron is considered to be the most single unstoppable dominant force along with WIlt, Moses and Shaq, and he's not even a Center! If the second bulls second three-peaters played the Miami of today - Defensively Pippen would nullify LeBron, Jordan would do the same with Wade and Rodman would have Bosh completely silenced. Let's not forget Harper, Longley, Kerr and Williams weren't exactly chumps on defense either. Defensively, the heat couldn't even hope to quiet Jordan, Pippen, Kukoc, Kerr and co. Lebron James will never be as good as Scottie Pippen. Not as fundamentally sound, nor does he bother to add to his game year to year. Examples: he still has no post game to speak of, no mid-range game, and is still not an elite defender despite being more athletic than any 3 he matches up with. Pip aint GOAT nor is LBJ. But Pipp is the greatest SF, AS OF NOW. LBJ will pass him up, however, he needs to earn himself a ring 1st. LBJ is definitely dominating but only to a certain extent. Hes yet to command the constant double/tripleteams outside of the key that MJ/KB do. Once you earn the extra coverage outside the key, thats when youve become dominant by CONSTANTLY freeing up open teamates. Also, LBJ lacks a post game, something Pip has taken advantage of all throughout his career.

Pip was a great player but he was definitely not the greatest SF. Obviously Bird was better and I'd put Dr. J and an overlooked D. Wilkins ahead of him. LB does command double-teams consistly. Just because every possession doesn't result in one is due to other factors mainly fastbreaks. Kobe/MJ and others greats aren't doubleteamed all the time. I agree he does need a post game, but dont rewrite history by saying Pip had one his whole career.

When I say a 27-28yr old Pip was the greatest SF, Im talking about a teammate who doesnt need the ball in his hands and still affects the outcome of games Pip could score a goose egg, and the team still wins. The other players you named in most cases need to get their shots in order for their teams to get a win. Pip seamlessly fits onto any team and enhances every aspect of the team. Just my thoughts

Being the greatest at a position is an individual accolade - being a team player is irrevalant. The name of the game is putting the ball in the hole. Other aspects are important but you wouldn't say that Russell was a better center than Kareem or Wilt. Your team player point relies on the fact that Pip was on teams with other great players. That shouldn't factor into an evaluation of his individual talent. No way in hell he's better than Bird.

I got to say I agree with what both of you are saying. I just got to put my opinion is this. I commenting about the Russell being better than Kareem or Wilt. Scoring wise no he wasn't better. Defensively he was better. I would rather have Russell playing center for me than the other two.

Russell was able to focus almost solely on defense. He was on an uber-talented team. Kareem and Wilt for much of their careers were on teams that weren't half as talented. You don't think if they concentrated on defensive that they wouldn't have been just as good if not better than Russell? Wilt was a better passer, scorer, and just as good of a rebounder. He was more dominant in all facets. Wilt would constantly destroy Russell head2head, Russell was just on a better team.

Bird was on teams with other greats but his individual talent spoke for itself. Pip was on teams post-Chicago when they relied on him to step up - Portland and Houston. He didnt, that wasnt his game or his character. For that reason he cant be the greatest SF.

One other thing most people will never think about until it starts showing... Although LBJ is still only 25, because of his incredible size, speed and amount of energy his body exerts, his body will breakdown much faster than expected. Don't be so naive to think an athlete like that can last forever. 27 will be his absolute peak as the player he was meant to be. So if he doesnt join a run/gun offensive team with competent players soon, then clock will start ticking for everybody else to hear.

You're making a huge assumption that he'll decline physically. Barkley, Malone, Otis Thorpe, etc. were more than effective well past their physical prime. None of the greats "true" primes coincided with their physical primes i.e. Jordan and Magic. Because of his size and strength his physical prime will be extended.

When his did postup he would faceup a do running hooks across the lane. Post prime he developed a deadly mid-range jumper and (I'll concede) he would sprinkle in some turnaround J's from the post. No way u can compare his back 2 basket game to Barkley, Olajawon, or McHale.

Well, offense wins games. Defense wins championships. Stats get you to the All-Star game and into the playoffs. Basketball savvy and know how and team play get you multiple rings. Lebron is a great player and will eventually go down as one of the GOAT, but stats dont mean shit. And I said one of the GOAT. Jordan will not be reached. Lebron will not win 6 championships. At the rate he's goin 1 maybe 2 in a weaker era than the Jordan-Magic-Bird-Pippen era.

By the way, what type of offense does Cleveland run? None. It begins and ends with Lebron. Hence, why he averages his numbers. you see Jordan also averaged 35 and 37 ppg and was not winning championships and so was Kobe. When they bought into Tex's triangle they have won 10 championships between them. Also, Kuester's gone (who was the so-called genius of this offense) so Pippen's 21-7-7-3-1 and 6 rings in an equal opportunity offense not completely centered around MJ and 30 ppg carry more weight

I didn't refute those facts. During those seasons he virtually averaged a triple double 4 times and an actual one once. He had no help. It's team sport and if Jordan didn't have talent on his teams he wouldn't have won. If only 3-4 teams were in the playoffs the Bulls wouldn't have made it in some seasons. These are facts. No. 1, I'm not a fanboy for Lebron, I simply can objectively respect his talent. I definitely watched the Bulls during that era. I AM a "fanboy" of Barkley and believe that era was better than the present day NBA. Nonetheless, Pippen has never been in the GOAT discussion by NBA insiders, vets, sportswriters, his peers,etc. Pip was very good but NOT GREAT. Kobe is a better player because of his defense. If you ask coaches or their peers every other aspect of their games are almost a push. BTW I played 1-AA college basketball and have played against Joe Smith, Allen Iverson, Ronald Curry(Nat. High School POY), plus many NFL players in pick games. So I've played the game at a fairly high level.

Could be is the key. Lebron is a better offensive player than Pippen. That is it. Pippen is the more complete player. Nobody on this site realizes that the Bulls ran the same offense as the Lakers do today, the triangle meaning everyone touches the ball. Who on the Lakers averages over 5 assists per game? Nobody. Lebron is in an offense centered around him which gets him stats no championships. I guarentee if Lebron were in triangle, you'd see a decrease in stats and increase in playoff wins.

Wilt played when rules were instituted to combat his skills. They widened the lane because of him - period. you said the word I've been preaching all along. a more competitive era. I.e---Jordan, Magic, Bird, Ewing, Barkley, the Dream, Admiral, Mailman. All Lebron has as even close to that same level that actually make the playoffs consistently are Wade, Kobe, Howard, Melo, TD (past prime), KG (getting to downslope), and P double. How many of them have made the finals more than Pippen? Nobody. TD is closest as the only one who was the leader and he's past his prime. Kobe had Shaq and shaq was the star.

Pippen was a better forward than Lebron, in general. to hell wit stats. Lebron didnt have Jordan on his team. If it werent for the hugh hollins call in 94, Pippen wouldve gone as far as Lebron did in 2007. Lebron, to me is a better offensive player, but the game has changed. And FYI to everyone who buys the hype, while Lebron aint 6'9". He is the same height as Pippen (6'7") (seen him in person) but bigger at 260. It's much of an advantage if he's at guard or small forward against smaller guys.

The most assists Pippen ever had in a season was 7.0 and he averaged 5.2 for his career. Lebron has already had three seasons were he had 7.2 and his career average is 6.7 assists.

first of all, stats arent everything. Second of all, they are two different offenses. The Bulls ran the triangle.you also see Kobe running it. Jordan also averaged close to 5 assists per game and dont forget Armstrong and Paxson were there. Anyone who knows basketball knows it takes a team to win and stats dont mean squat. By the way, Chicago's ball movement in a triangle offense, which Pippen lead in assists, is much better than Lebron having to do everything and still coming up short everytime

actually, for your information, Pippen led the league in steals. Thank You very much. Lebron has only lead in scoring. Not taking anything away from Lebron, but Pippen lead a 55 win team scoring 22 ppg with Grant/Armstrong getting 15 ppg. If you look closely with the exception of points, their numbers were identical.

Supastar, Lebron has a much hgher scoring average, is better in rebounds, assists, blocks and 3pt%. Pippen edged him out in stl and fg% by .2 in each catagory.
