His tactical and goal kicking are second to none. His passing and gainline distribution is excellent. Mentally he is incredibly strong. It was a stupid decision to go for an up and under at that stage of the game, there aren't many up and unders that give possesion back to the team that kicked it. If he wanted to win the game then he should have either kept the ball in hand or kicked the ball long.

stephen jones didnt lose the first test for us. his kicking was poor but still moved the backs rly well. and he more than made up for it in the 2nd and 3rd test. 2nd highest lions points scorer in a series. ur just lookin for sum1 else to blame.

When even Shane Williams knows he can pass through ROG's tackle like a phantom, you know ROG can't tackle and never could. I mean this was 5 years ago and he couldn't tackle then. 5 years on and he's still being brushed aside like a little child. If he can't tackle by now, he'll never learn.

Lots of mad sweeping statements here, but here's one youtube evidence clearly supports, he needs to shown how to tackle properly, he consistently hits a ball carrier approaching him at speed at above waist height and that will nearly always result in him failing to even slow down any ball carrier, be it Williams, Fourie, Contempomi, he probabky wouldn't even put Stringer on his arse in that situation

I am fed up listening to bullshit excuses for ROG and those wishing to defend him. He is not a world class player. He is a bottler and a passenger, and Ireland won the grandlsam despite him. He has never been up to international rugby, and has kept his place because of the links with Munster. He was found out big time in the 2nd test and I certainly will not shy away from putting the loss of that match on his ineptitude and incompetence.

I've said it for years, and been lambasted and criticised for my views on O'Gara.
He is the most over-rated rugby player I have ever seen play at international level. He bottles the big occasion time and time again.
The comments below are correct he was an absolute joke on the Lions tour. He should have been in Cork not South Africa.

he was put in the centre for the second match after roberts and o driscoll went off injured. look everybody knows that o garas tackling is not his strongest point but my point is that everybody knows that if you are under pressure and want to win a match o gara is the best at getting a team into position and setting up a win. his kicking game is better than jones and most other number 10's in the game.

yes jones had a good series and is a great number 10. i just think the shit ogara gets is a little unfair. just because he is not the strongest player in the world and his tackling is sometimes suspect, people jump on his back and say he is a shit player. its all the other elements he brings to the game. his kicking and decision making are tops. if his tackling was as strong as jones well he would have been first choice number 10.

It was a stupid decision to go for an up and under at that stage of the game, there aren't many up and unders that give possesion back to the team that kicked it. If he wanted to win the game then he should have either kept the ball in hand or kicked the ball long.

I was there behind the goal where ROG dropped the ball - It was the only thing he done all match and O'Connell had to talk him through his paces throughout the second half and was even doing his job for him for long periods in the match. ROG is the weak link in a very good Irish side who consistently bottles it it on the big occasions ! But for some reason, no matter how bad he plays he has an automatic right to the number 10 jersey (Sadly)
