@GWRjim Thanks for your comment. The bagpipe played throughout the video is from Calabria, specifically Catanzaro province. Two drones play the dominant note (5th) and one plays the tonic (1st).

Is the Zampogna the same as a "Ciraramedda"?

@paulgra Ciaramedda simply means "zamogna" in Sicilian/Calabrian. However, the zampogna changes in form and function depending on the region they come from. Thus the zampognas in Sicily look and sound quite different than those found in say Abruzzo. So using the word "ciaramedda" could be referring specifically to the Sicilian style zampogna. Hope that helps :)

Bravo ragazzo per questo filma! It's about time that the Italian people and peoples of Italian ancestry throughout the world--from Argentina to New Zealand--recognize their bagpiping heritage. As I like to good-naturedly jibe the Celtic folk, the Italians were playing the pipes before Jesus was a carpenter. The pipes represent continuity and a harmony with nature that humans had with the world before globalization, mega malls and credit cards. La zampogna e il fiato de la vita.

@ozzirigiul E stato filmato nella periferia di Catanzaro. Suona una zampogna a chiave, il modello che si trova intorno di Catanzaro con tre bordoni, uno che suona il tonico. Il suonatore e' Nicola Nistico'.
